Exclusive: Ugly Betty Digs Six Feet Under Dude

They said it wouldn't last. And apparently, they were right. Six Feet Under alum Freddy Rodriguez is joining the cast of Ugly Betty as a spoiler in our heroine's budding romance with longtime crush Henry.

I'd join you in crying foul, but given the character description that I fed you in the Independence Day installment of Ask Ausiello, I have a hunch we're going to take to Rodriguez's Betty counterpart as readily as we did to Christopher Gorham's endearing Henry. Heck, the newbie — Gio, who runs the sandwich cart at Mode — sounds as appealing as Betty herself: ambitious, aggressive and lovable.

So what does it all mean?

If I were a betting man, since Gio is expected to stick around for the whole season, I'd wager that Henry will be spending more time around his own cubicle than Betty's. And since Rodriguez is almost a decade older than America Ferrera, I'm thinking Papa Suarez might have something to say about Gio robbing the cradle. Then again, Rodriguez has such a baby face, he probably gets carded as often as he gets asked for an autograph.

In any case, thoughts? Good news? Bad?

I like Freddy Rodriguez, and think that the whole 'triangle' aspect will make things interesting. Ugly Betty is, after all, a soap opera.

Christopher Gorham is also 10 years older than America Ferrara and they've never made an issue out of it on the show.

Now it's official. Ugly Betty has covered almost every daytime soap opera storyline. The only one left is babies switched at birth/kidnapped. I love Ugly Betty and I like the Betty/Henry relationship. I was hoping it would last for a little while, although I knew a wrench would be thrown in eventually.

I hope this doesn't mean less Chris Gorham time. I want Henry and Betty together, but if they are not I at least want to still have his character around.

Yeah. I think we all just want Betty happy. Hm... I wonder if this has happened before. Fans putting a character's happiness over inherent shipperness. It helps that I do like Freddy Rodriguez. I'll echo other people's sentiments hoping to at least have Henry around from time to time.

I cannot believe they aren't giving Betty & Henry any time at all to be happy. If this guy does not grab me like Henry did.. immediately.. I don't know if I will keep watching. I have seen this actor before, and all I can say is that he did not impress me.

Love it. Freddy is an awesome actor (and cutie to boot). I'm looking forward to the storyline.

I guess a little shake up is good for the ratings but I hope that in the end Henry and Betty end up together. I just love these two together.

I loved Freddy as Rico on Six Feet Under. I think he would be a great addition to the cast.

Well, as I recall, when we last saw Henry he was on a plane with this girlfriend who (in true soap fashion) may/may not be pregnant with his/Betty's orthodontist's child and Betty was/was not going to tell him. I think it makes sense that it is going to take a while for Henry's storyline to play out honorably, and who wants to watch Betty sit and pine? If the "rival" chemistry between Rodriguez and Gorham works, this could be fun. And won't it be fun to hear Marc & Amanda with the play-by-play?

First of all, let's not forget that Christopher Gorham/Henry Grubstick is going to be around ALL SEASON too.

With unrequited feelings between Henry and Betty and no real satisfaction for their fans, I think there are going to be LOTS and LOTS of people that aren't "going to take to" Gio as readily as we did to Henry.

In fact, I would imagine most, if not all, Henry/Betty and Daniel/Betty fans are already trying to come up with anyone other than Betty to pair him with...heck, if he is so much older, give him to Hilda.

Anyway, if you couldn't tell. This is ONE fan that is NOT HAPPY at all.

Freddy's how old? No way!! Well, I want to see if there's really any chemistry between Freddy and America. But beyond that, I hope that something is resolved with Betty and Henry! They are an amazing couple--and that's something that everybody knows!
