Exclusive: Smallville Snags Hidden Hunk

Stop the presses — Smallville has found its new "Daily Planet" editor!
Sources confirm that Michael Cassidy (Hidden Palms, The O.C.) has scored the top job, replacing Carrie Fisher's barely visible Pauline Kahn. Cassidy will appear in at least six episodes and, as I reported in early June, his character is being groomed as a love interest for Lois Lane.
Curiously, the role originally called for a thirtysomething actor. Cassidy, however, is a ripe 24. Wonder what that's about. Feel free to post your theories (and/or general reaction to the casting of Cassidy) in the super convenient comment section below.

No matter how adorable Cassidy is, it's really just stupid to cast him as editor of a major metropolitan newspaper. Admittedly, the Smallville fantasy is all about having people play roles 10 years younger than they are, but that can only be stretched so far.
I'll enjoy looking at Cassidy on my screen from time to time in the upcoming season, but I will also hrmph the casting choice every single time.

Chief editor at 30, thats just impossible. You don't even make section editor at 30. So i am guessing this season Lois goes fully towards the DP.

ofri-if it is "only Smallville" Then why did you post? Love the show, but they should stick with history and common sense and stick with an older "Perry White" type to be editor...being, of course, a small town, "Smallville" only has a limited supply of hair-care products....

It does seem like odd casting. Is his character name being changed to "Doogie"? Are we sure he's not the editor's son?

Michael Cassidy is great on Hidden Palms, but I just can't really see him on Smallville. It's going to be really hard to imagine him as an editor for the DP this year.
And I hope that whole "love interest for Lois Lane" thing is thrown out. Whoever said it above is right. ED looks like she could be his momma. Gross!

I want to understand this clearly...they've cast him as Perry White...hmm..Is this another case of....oh dear...well good luck to him.. I thought they were going to see the whole Lois/Clark thing advancing? Isn't that why they got rid of Oliver?

I've never seen his work before, but I'm glad there's going to be something going on at the Daily Planet besides Clark running to Chloe for research and whining purposes only.
However, I can't say I'm too excited that he'll be Lois' love interest.
Because, seriously.
Pairing Lois with every major guest star (Hello Aquaman and Oliver Queen) is kind of getting old.

The editor of the Daily Planet is younger than Clark, Chloe and Not-Lois? ANd he's supposed to be a love interest for Not-Lois just like Olliver Queen was last season? Talk about boring redux. Or will it be even worse with Not-Lois sleeping her way into a job at the Daily Planet since, unlike her cousin Chloe, she's too incompetant to actually work her way in ligitimately?
This, plus Supergirl who can fly while Clark cannot is just an excuse to avoid giving us a Clark who actually grows up and gets over pathetic self-centered Lana Lang, who will also, no doubt, return to be praised as the all accepting martyr instead of the manipulative tart she really is. Season seven sounds even worse than season six and I would never have guessed anything could be worse than episodes like Promise and Combat.
All the focus will be on other people thatn the hero and never any tying up of long awaited plot threads from good episodes like Fever and Vessel. Call me disgusted.

I have to say, this really bothers me. I love Smallville and watch it religiously, but I've been increasingly bothered by the homogenization of the cast (e.g., all European-American cast, all young, all pretty). I understand that networks chase demographics, but casting this actor as the editor of the Daily Planet asks me to suspend belief just a little too much.

SIGH......no offense to this actor, because I'm sure work is hard to find these days, but isn't this supposed to be the last season? If it is, the LAST thing this show needs is new actors! And I don't want to see another boyfriend for Lois! One that you know won't work out! Just put her with Clark already!
But no....Clark won't have time for that. In between mourning Lana's fake death(so realistically those spoilers from last spring were lies then hey? No one really got killed off at all)and tending to his cousin who didn't make it to Earth for 15 something years, the last season of 'Smallville' is going to go out with a frustrating whimper, I suppose.
I've watched this show from the beginning. I'll watch it until the bitter end. But I haven't heard a promising spoiler yet.
