Exclusive: Samantha Who? Snags Eddie Cibrian, Lost's Sanchez

If you needed two more reasons to catch ABC's unquestionably entertaining Samantha Who?, here they are: Sources confirm to me exclusively that producers have tapped ex-Invasion hottie Eddie Cibrian and short-lived Lost castaway Kiele Sanchez for multi-episode arcs.

Cibrian has been cast as a love interest for Christina Applegate's title character, while Sanchez — who I swear is just one good role away from being a huge star — will romance Barry Watson's Todd.

ABC is clearly looking to keep both actors on the payroll. In addition to their respective roles on Invasion and Lost, Cibrian and Sanchez starred in the Alphabet Net's ill-fated Football Wives pilot.

Samantha Who? premieres on Oct. 15 and, trust me, you guys are gonna Eat. It. Up.

I think I was the only guy bummed out that FOOTBALL WIVES didn't go to series. It seemed like a no-brainer to try it out, what with the hot cast of Eddie Cibrian, Kaeyle Sanchez, Lucy Lawless and James Van Der Beek...hot guys nearly naked and bitchy catfights? Forget DIRTY SEXY MONEY, BIG SHOTS and PRIVATE PRACTICE! Is there ANY possible chance that ABC might revisit a failed pilot? Or perhaps NBC, CBS or THE CW can pick up the pilot and try it out? I don't know how the biz works enough to answer that.

The pilot for football wives must have been really bad for them not to order the series. I've never seen the british show, so I don't if it's something I would have liked anyway.

They hired noted showkiller Kiele Sanchez? Not a good sign. Also not a good sign -- that it's an orphaned half-hour sitcom sandwiched between two sucky reality shows. It couldn't be more obvious that ABC's peeps had figured out their entire schedule just before the Upfronts in May and then realized, "Oh, wait, we forgot to program a half-hour on Mondays." -- Rob

No, I was bummed about Football Wives not working out, too, but according to an interview right here with Lucy Lawless they cut all the over-the-top stuff out that made Footballer$ Wives what it was. If FW was too much like another ABC show, it's Dirty Sexy Money, not DH anyway.

Just thinking of what might have been with Lucy Lawless and Eddie Cibrian as Tanya and Jason Turner, Kiele Sanchez as Donna and Holly Robinson Peet at ultimate milf Jackie.....sigh
