Updated: Why Kristen Bell Won't Be Getting Lost

Kristen Bell by Jeff Vespa/WireImage.com
Updated Sunday 1 pm/EST: Did Kristen Bell say no to Lost because she's planning a trip to Broadway? That's the buzz along the Great White Way. One of my Broadway moles tells me that Bell could be replacing Laura Bell Bundy in Legally Blonde this February. K.Bell, who was forced to turn down the lead in the new musical Xanadu due to her Veronica Mars duties, recently visited the show (click here to see pics) and a casting agent for the musical recently told TheaterMania.com that they are considering "adding a TV-based name to the cast in the not too distant future." And even the assertion from Bell's rep that her client "has no plans to do Legally Blonde at this time" would seem to leave open the possibility of a February start -- and it would certainly explain why she was reluctant to make another TV commitment (i.e. Lost). Just some food for thought. My original story follows...

Total. Bummer.

The greatest casting coup of the century was apparently not meant to be: A spokesperson for Kristen Bell, responding to my report in Wednesday's AA, notified me late last night that my BFF won't be joining Lost next season. Although her rep didn't provide a reason, I did a little digging and my sources say Bell -- who was formally approached by Lost execs this week -- turned down the gig primarily because she didn't want to relocate to Hawaii.

Bottom line: It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make this one happen for you guys like I did with that other greatest casting coup of the century.

Feel free to engage in a little communal grieiving in the comments section below.

Wow, and the podcast "jinx" wasn't even life for six hours!

What a shame. Could have been soooo sweet.

How about your other BFF Keri Russell for this part? Lauren Graham is too old but Keri could be good. Too bad EVC already has a job.

This was always a longshot.

How about Eliza Dushku? Lizzy Caplan? Autumn Reeser? Amber Tamblyn?

There's still plenty of good choices out there.

Thank goodness. Lost had a great first season but has become something of a meandering mess. Without Kristen, I won't feel guilty about skipping season 4. :^O

Probably for the best anyway ... she'd just end up getting a DUI and being killed off anyway.

As long as she doesn't make Pulse II, I'm happy.

I'm disappointed. That's a pretty lame reason. I suspect there's a better, truer reason. Is truer a word?

I love Amber Tamblyn, but I don't think I like her for this. Lizzy Caplan could work. Whatever, I trust Darlton to sort this out. The Lost people have never really made a poor casting choice as far as I'm concerned. Would have loved to see Kristen Bell in the part, but there are lots of other twenty-somethings out there.

No great loss to me, I could care less. It's a shame for her, she should of taken the role, I'm sure she won't get another high profile job on a show anytime soon. I mean I know everyone on tvguide loved Veronica Mars, but I don't know one person who knew the show excisted or watched it. Not a diss, it's just that Pulse was a bomb and at least with Lost, it's high profile.

So sad I would have loved to see her.

Autumn Reeser would be great though!! She is easly my second choice. Think you could get on that one Ausiello.
