Exclusive: Keri Russell Cast as Wonder Woman!

Fanboys and girls the world over are about to find out what I've known all along: Keri Russell is a superhero!

Reliable sources confirm to me exclusively that my reigning BFF is in advanced talks to voice the title role in Warner Bros' straight-to-DVD animated Wonder Woman feature. The flick, which is slated for release in late '08/early '09, is part of a new line of DVD feature adaptations by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics. The first, Superman: Doomsday, hit stores in September and promptly flew off the shelves. Upcoming releases include Justice League: New Frontier (2/26) and Batman: Gotham Knight.

It's probably safe to assume that new-mum Russell would record her dialogue sometime in Feb./March whilst she's in L.A. shooting the Adam Sandler comedy Bedtime Stories. In related news, a $100 reward has been posted for information leading to the exact dates of those audio sessions, as well as the address of said recording studio. Send any/all tips to ask_ausiello@tvguide.com.

So, any thoughts on this Wonder-ful piece of casting? Could this be a precursor to Russell lassoing the lead in the studio's long-gestating live-action WW flick? Probably not, but it sure as hell wouldn't hurt to spread that rumor. Feel free to get the whispering campaign started in the comments section below!

No...I don't think so. This is great, and I love Keri Russell, but for the live action movie she just doesn't have the look.

Not that she isn't beautiful (there are few women even as beautiful and I can't think of any that are more) but there's a specific appearance to WW and she's just not it.

Add some smurfs and Diet Raspberry Snapple, and we have a serious case of Michael Ausiello heaven!

I agree that Kerri Russell, as gorgeous as she is, probably wouldn't be right for the Wonder Woman movie.

However, considering how Emily Deschanel looked in her Wonder Woman outfit for the "Bones" Halloween episode, I'd have no problem with her in the part.

Having debated this to death with several like-minded fans of the superhero genre, it's going to come down primarily to body type and age. There won't ever be a perfect face until we get a real-life visit by a certain princess from Paradise Island; we'll just have to settle for run-of-the-mill gorgeous.

A few weeks in the gym bulking up and Keri could perfectly pull off a convincing live-action Wonder Woman.

(My perfect pick would have been Dina Meyer, but she's already aged out of the running, I'm afraid.)

In my opinion - the only two real candidates for the Wonder Woman role are the following: Lauren Graham and Emily Deschanel. Personally, I'd like to see Emily do it because i just love her on Bones, and the Halloween episode was great!

Charisma Carpenter as Wonder Woman, please. And a side of fries.

Keri could be Donna Prince, younger sis Wonder Girl. Side of cole slaw.

A bottle of Dom and two champagne flutes, and please rope off this section. Thank you.

Diana's younger sister was named Drucilla. And when Diana went to America, she made up the surname of Prince.

Isn't Charisma Carpenter too short?
Please let's get a SCRIPT for Wonder Woman and then cast Nadia Bjorlin!

TV Gord, I believe that Charisma was being considered for that part at one point, but that the deal tanked for some reason if my aging memory serves. I agree wholeheartedly with your choice, but I believe it's already a non-starter.

creolemommie: Isn't Nadia the girl from Days of Our Lives? If so, she would fit the role perfectly. She has the body and perfect face to match. She would be a great choice for Wonder Woman as would Charisma. I don't see Kerri Russell in the role but I'm happy for her that she will voice the animated movie.

Actually Maurine

Donna Stacey Hinkley Troy IS Diana's sister (well, a mirror copy of Diana who got her own identity and lifespan after a LOooooong convoluted history)

Donna was Wonder Girl and then Troia and Cassie Sandsmark is now Wonder-Girl

Diana Prince is a made up name (created by Bruce Wayne) recently taken by Diana to work at the Dept Meta-Human Affairs, before that she was publicly known as Diana of Themiscrya

Drusilla was not Wonder Girl in tthe comics and as far as I know hasn't been referenced outside of the TV as anything other than a Amazon islander (if that)

And as for casting... it'd have to be Morena Baccarin for Diana, with Charisma for Donna and Kristen Bell as Cassie

And of course Lynda Carter as Queen Hippolyta
