Exclusive: Kari Matchett Invades ER!

As I first scooped in Ask Ausiello, ER has admitted the luminous Kari Matchett (Invasion, 24, Heartland) to play County General's newest attending. Her character, Skye Wexler, is described as tough and outdoorsy and is moonlighting in the ER to raise money for her world travels. And although an interoffice romance would seem inevitable — c'mon, look at her — a Peacock insider insists there are no immediate plans for Skye to bed any of her fellow docs. (The key word there being immediate.)

Matchett's first airdate is Nov. 1, roughly one week after Reiko Aylesworth shows up as the hospital's hot and hip new chaplain.

In related news, I so wasn't planning to watch ER this season, but these back-to-back casting coups are going to make it hard to resist. Am I right or am I right?

I have heard that her character is involved in all transplant surgeries, she is thought to be a bit loose-mouthed and has been known to divulge many secrets, plus she has a very strange hybrid DNA that cannot be deciphered!

Okay, I had been liking Kari until I watched all of the Heartland series this summer. It seemed a great deal of her acting consisted of doing a whimsical head tilt, accompanied by a knowing smile that beautifully displayed her dimples. After about the 100th time I saw her do that, it became too much. But maybe the bad writing on Heartland left her with no other options. I'm open to liking her again. ER sounds like it's shaping up to be fun this season.

On an aside, I was watching Wonderfalls on DVD the other day and it took me a minute to recognize Kari with dark hair playing the lesbian lover of the older sister.

Personally, I don't think she's that good an actress. I'm wondering if she's got some really raunchy pics of some network execs or something. That's the only reason I can think of to explain why she gets as much work as she does.

She's been on more cancelled shows than anyone I can think of ("Invasion," "Studio 60," "Heartland") not to mention the worst season of "24" to date - although that one's not completely her fault.

If I was an "ER" producer, I'd be kind of scared to cast her.

So excited for this one! I wasn't sure of her at first when I watched invasion. She seemed robotic - which I suppose was part of the character. But then she was similar on 24 (and ew - sleeping with the icky vp, didn't help!) But then I saw her on Studio 60 and she was this cute, sexy girl and my husband and I were like, oh my god, she's awesome! I can't wait to see what she brings to ER.

I've been out of the ER for a couple of years now but decided to tune back in when they cast the divine Stanley Tucci. The rest of it is just icing on the cake.

Matchett is my favorite actress. Good for ER.

As a Canadian, I've been a fan of Kari Matchett since she was doing Canadian TV (yay Power Play!) and I really enjoyed her on Studio 60 this year. I'm looking forward to seeing her on ER

Excellent, she did a great job on Heartland. I assume Heartland is Kaput.

I like Kari, so for her sake this better not be ER's last season. Or else, she'll definately get something close to a "showkiller" reputation. Invasion, Heartland, Wonderfalls, Season Six of 24... I hope she's willing to get a new agent!

(If ER and Private Practice get canned, then maybe Kari and Tim Daly can star in a show called "How Long Can We Last?")

Michael, you weren't planning on watching "ER" this season? Shame on you! Last season was one of its very best (and I've seen 'em all), especially with Maura Tierney edging ever so closer to being THE star of the show, which she definitely deserves. Perhaps tuning in to see the new cast members will help you see why Tierney has kept ME watching all these years.

What a great big huge BUMMER! Cannot stand this actress as she is awful and just not as attractive as she seems to think she is. She was horrid on 24 and Studio 60. As other posters have pointed out, she replies on her dimples and a super annoying head tilt in nearly every scene. Too bad for us loyal ER fans...

Hey Canadians! Anyone remember her on Earth:Final Conflict? She was on the good first season as the sexy Irish agent (did a good accent). She may not be brilliant, but she does well in ensemble shows. She'll be a good fit for ER.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I guest-starred on HEARTLAND this summer and all my scenes were with Kari. She's beautiful, smart, extremely warm and friendly. She says hello and introduces herself to every actor who's new on set, even those with only one line, and was concerned about the well-being of background actors. It's like she never got the memo that leading ladies are supposed to be divas. This proved to me she's a good actress since she's nothing like her cold, manipulative characters. She also worked hard and was always professional--always on time, knew her lines, never complained, etc. ER is lucky to have her.

NOTE: No, I wasn't paid to write this by Kari or anyone on her PR team!
