Exclusive: Housewives Courting Dana Delany

OK, so apparently it's the fourth time that's the charm. Although Dana Delany turned down the role of Desperate Housewives' Bree three times back when the prime-time soap was but a gleam in Marc Cherry's eye, she may finally plant roots on Wisteria Lane after all.

Setside sources tell me that the China Beach Emmy winner is in advance talks to become a new series regular. And get this: Her character is the spitting image of Bree. According to the casting breakdown, Katherine is a "conservative Republican with an all-American wholesomeness and a mastery of passive-aggressiveness."

Tell me that doesn't sound like someone we know.

Unlike the new mom-to-be, however, Katherine is a former neighbor who is coming home after an absence of more than a decade, with a younger man for a husband (described as "the best-looking gynecologist in town") and a 17-year-old daughter who sounds like she could assume Andrew's mantel as the show's biggest JV troublemaker.

So how do we feel about Delany's move to Wisteria Lane? Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Thumbs sideways? Sound off below!

Pasadena deserved a longer run - unfortunately it was a few years ahead of its time

I even liked that sitcom (Sweet Surrender) she did right before China Beach.

And a few years ago, she was in a TV movie that was actually pretty good, The Patron Saint of Liars, with two of my other favorites, Sada (Family) Thompson and Ellen (Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore) Burstyn. (It also features a young Maggie Gyllenhaal, not surprising since it was directed by her father, Stephen!)

This is the best news you've given in a while. I love Dana Delany, especially on the late great Pasadena. And yes, her great voice made for a great Lois Lane too.

SON OF A GUN!!!

This move by Marc Cherry might actually get me to watch Desperate Housewives! I LOVE Dana Delany, ever since the late, lamented China Beach and have always hoped to see her firmly settled on a series worthy of her talents.

I think DH needs another housewife. I just hope she does not have a season long mystery arc. Give the mystery to someone we already care about.

Ok, so, I guess I have to go thumbs sideways, because I have no clue who this is. Never seen her in anything, and from the sounds of previous posts, I'm obviously missin out! So in that case, I look forward to seeing her. Just the prospect of Bree interacting with a long lost sister HAS to be fun!

I love Dana Delaney!! She brings a lot to any show or movie she is in...the show needed something to liven it up..I was really getting bored! They should get rid of Nicolette Sheidan's character as she really does not bring much to the party other than not wearing much clothes and that gets old as she really is not a very good actress...her monotone voice is just that...monotone..
