Those stunt-casting-crazy kids over at Desperate Housewives are at it again.

Inside sources confirm that veteran actress Polly Bergen (Cape Fear, Commander in Chief, denture commercials) has been cast as Lynette's saucy mother. She'll first appear in the May 20 season finale to "help" Lynette deal with a life-threatening health crisis. "She shows up smoking and drinking," says my spy. "It should be a really fun character."

Additionally, M*A*S*H alum Mike Farrell has been tapped to play Victor's gazillionaire dad (and Gaby's soon-to-be father-in-law). He'll also show up in the finale.

I think that DH has done a fantastic job of casting the characters' parents on the show. I especially loved Lesley Ann Warren as Susan's Mother, Dixie Carter as Orson's mother, & Shirley Knight as Rex' mother. All of them were excellent choices. The only actress I wasn't familiar with was Carlos' mother.

Polly was fab in Cape Fear, which I recently saw. She should be great.

I also loved Lynn Redgrave as Ian's mum. And of course, Dixie as Orson's mom, Lesley as Susan's mom....

Fer Crissakes already Cape Fear(the original) was before the great flood. Why would anyone use that old movie as an indicator of Polly Bergens' potential today? Is it because she's the only one still kicking?
