Breaking Grey's/Private Practice Casting News!

Focus groups be damned!

Grey's Anatomy has promoted Chyler Leigh (aka Mer's McDreaming half-sis Lexie) to a series regular, an ABC Studios rep confirms. The news comes on the heels of my vodcast report that test audiences chewed up and spit out the character during a recent focus group. To be fair, her brief flirtation with Derek didn't exactly help her cause.

In sort of related news, Grey's 2.0 (aka Private Practice) has tapped KaDee Strickland (The Wedding Bells) to play a doctor and hospital administrator. She too will be a series regular.

I know Chyler joining the cast could be seen as a good plot device, but I personally am dreading it... I just have this feeling she is just gonna make things harder for Meredith and Derek (and Meredith in general) and honestly this show does NOT need anymore drama at the moment! I was already starting to hate the show at the end of season 3 so this character better be used in a good way or I will be tuning out!

Well at least Chyler is the right age to be playing an intern. I always found it strange that the rest of the interns were around 40. But I agree the show does not need anymore drama.

And I like KaDee Strickland, but does Private Practice really need more cast members? It already seems like they're going to have trouble giving everyone enough screen time. And is there any chance they are (hopefully) dropping Piz and his gigantic nipples??

I miss Wedding Bells. Damn you, FOX! :(

But I am glad KaDee's working again. I was gonna watch the show anyway, if only to see how it differs from the epi they aired as part of Grey's 1.0.

roxkirch--- Piz was the name of Chris Lowell's character on Veronica Mars. Lowell is the receptionist/surfer that the gals ogled in the pilot.

Fine Greys hired her full time..whatever? If they have Derek sleep with her. I am done. I thought Mer and Der were supposed to be the "it" couple of the show. Yes they will have ups and downs but at the end they will be together...Sorry you do not come back from SLEEPING WITH ONES SISTER!! NO FREAKIN WAY!!!

Greys and Private Practice both have way too big of casts but I do like KaDee. And I might be the one person who liked and watched The Wedding Bells.

I also liked Wedding Bells. And as for Chris Lowell (Piz from VM) he really needs to stay on PP. He is wonderful eye candy.. yum... <g>
But I hope that they listen to the focus group and stop the flirtation between Derek and Meredith's sister b4 the 1st episode.

They really don’t care what we think right? Well, I guess I am done with Grey’s. All the storylines I can think of involving Lexie are vomit inducing. I don’t want to watch her, period. Being a series regular means she is there for at least 13 episodes right? Ok, then, I might come for the 14th.

Dude, you are GONNA have to STOP using the words "focus groups" I'm on two of the biggest ones and guess what? Overwhelmingly Chyler Leigh's characters Lexie Grey WAS NOT wanted as a show regular.

On the Touchstone group, over 85 percent of the focus group wanted Mer/Der back together and yet you say NOTHING on this. Shonda Rhimes says NOTHING on this.

So as far as I'm concerned, you are just using the "focus group" words to spark debate because it's pretty obvious the show creator could not care less what the fans are thinking.

This is why the character's stories were all in such terrible shape at the end of season three. Keep it up Grey's Anatomy creators and the lasat sound you'll hear at the end of season four is tv sets switching off everywhere permanently. This is one show where the fans are not heard, trust me.

I hope they also ignore the focus group and don't give up on George and Izzie. Their angst may be the best thing season 4 has going for it!
