Exclusive: Deadwood Sheriff Books Samantha Who?

If you're looking for a silver lining in that whole Deadwood movie debacle, here ya go: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Timothy Olyphant (aka Deadwood lawman Seth Bullock) has landed a recurring role on ABC's irresistible Samantha Who?. He'll play the new boss and potential love interest to Christina Applegate's title character. Olyphant starts work today, which means you shouldn't expect to see him on screen until December or January.

Reminder: If you missed last week's Samantha Who? premiere — and judging by the boffo premiere-week ratings, few of you did — Episode 2 airs tonight, and I hear it's just as smart and funny as the pilot. And that's no small task considering the pilot was damn near perfect!

I greatly enjoyed the pilot of Samantha Who?, and I am looking forward to tonight's episode. Christina Applegate is charming and delightful in her title role, and the other cast members are no slouches either.
So thanks for championing it, Michael. It is one of my favorite new shows this season, and I really hope it sticks around.

With Bullock on Samantha Who?, Calamity Jane (ahem) on Life, Mayor Farnum also guesting on Life, and Wild Bill Hickok on Dexter, I'm in post-Deadwood heaven--at least to the extent that there really is a heaven after the demise of Deadwood.

Can't wait to see Seth again! Yum, Bullock.

Darn, I thought he would have played Barry Watson's bro. They've always looked related to me.

Thanks for the scoop, Michael. Sadly, only news that HBO is making the Deadwood movie/s would make me feel better. :|

Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but I actually thought Olyphant was already *on* the show. I guess I wasn't paying too much attention and mixed him up with cast member Barry Watson. I think they look a lot alike too.

I think Barry Watson looks like a younger Michael Shanks. (Stargate SG1)

I loved the second episode more than the first! I love the chemistry between Christina & Barry. Now you are telling me that there may be a new love interest? What about the old one?

I actually kind of liked her current boss from the second episode. I guess he won't be there forever. I really enjoy this show. It's one of my favorites from the new season and unless I'm forgetting something, my 2nd favorite new comedy after Pushing Daisies. Reaper and Aliens in America come next but I keep stumbling over the episodes so I don't always catch them on first airing.

Slight problem, besides Samantha (name being in the title makes this easy) I can't really recall the names of the other characters off the top of my head. Normally it sticks better than that so I don't know what that means.

Oh but as far as actors go, I have those down and can I just say I heart Tim Russ and Jennifer Esposito. Ready to geek out with me? Tim and the director of the pilot Robert Duncan McNeill are Star Trek: Voyager alums. (Roxann Dawson directed an episode of Heroes last season). Good times for life post-Trek. I don't think Zachary Quinto's gonna have to worry about a rebound though, he's pulling double duty.
