UPDATE: CSI: Miami Exhumes Rory Cochrane

Major spoilery update: Scroll down to the bottom of the story for details -- but do so at your own risk.

I'm not quite sure how they're going to pull this off, but sources confirm that Rory Cochrane is returning to CSI: Miami this fall — three years after his character was fatally shot in the line of duty.

Cochrane — who asked to be released from his contract back in the summer of 2004 because "he couldn't really handle the grind anymore" — will appear in multiple episodes, beginning with this season's second. It's not clear, however, if he'll be reprising his role as presumed-dead criminalist Tim Speedle or playing a brand-new character. Tim's evil twin, perhaps?

Which option would you prefer, Miami fans? And more importantly, does Cochrane's return qualify as a good thing? Sound off below!

This just in: Sources confirm that Cochrane is definitely returning as Speedle. Discuss amongst yourselves...

Wow! Shocking indeed. I was so pissed when they killed off Speedle. It will be interesting to see what happens.

This kind of thing is exactly why I no longer watch CSI:Miami.

CSIwannaBe, It isnt because of David Caruso "awsome" acting LOL (Extreme sarcasm)

I'm intrigued...

I'd be interested if Speedle's death had been faked or something...

If it can mean that David Caruso is in less scenes, then it is a good thing.

This is GREAT NEWS!!! I have been a diehard fan of the original CSI (and in love with William Petersen from the beginning), but there is something annoyingly charming about CSI:Miami.

I've been able to catch up on the past seasons this summer and I'm hooked. That's how I fell in love with Judging Amy--in reruns.

I thought Speedle was a nice balance with Callie and Eric. If he comes back as himself, I hope he's not so careless with his weapons and keeps them clean. I wonder if this means Ryan is taking a powder. I haven't warned to him so much.

I never watched this CSI because I felt like the acting was forced. Once I started thinking of it as entertainment and stopped comparing it to the one with MY CRUSH, I began to like it.

Yes, Cochrane's return is a good thing, as he was one of the top three who could actually ACT, not to mention pull in the girl votes. My proposed scenario (in light of the continual resurrections of Raymond Caine)- the death was faked so Speedle could do a long term undercover job for... well, you have to take your pick. FBI, DEA...CBS.

OH! Wait! Wasn't the Speedle death episode called something "Son"? This season Horatio allegedly discovers he has a son... Perhaps Speedle faked his death so he could dedicate all his time to finding his biological parents, and after three years ends up back in Miami only to discover... (Yeah, I haven't had much sleep lately.)

And while I'm wasting your time, what ever happened to the whole Suzy/Madison story line? Seems like Uncle Horatio really dropped the ball on that one.

Frankly, I hate CSI:Miami. I think it's the poorest in the CSI Trifecta. I wish they would cancel it, and start over with a new location. There was a rumor some years back about them doing a CSI: London, I would so much prefer a CSI: London to a Miami anyday. I think it would open up so many new and interesting/different storylines and plots than what we're use to seeing. It seems the same ones are being told over and over again with Miami.

Yawn. I'm addicted to New York and Las Vegas, but won't watch this show even if the only other thing on is infomercials.

Bringing characters back from the dead (like a bad-cop brother...) is a cheat. The fans deserve better.

I'm on the verge of utterly deserting CSI Miami. I can't take Caruso's "acting" any more.
On the other hand, these news might actually make me give the show another show.
My guess is: a series of flashbacks. I don't think they're into ghosts.

Correct me if I'm wrong--but remembering back to the episode when he got shot--didn't they show him on the autopsy table?? Maybe they are bringing back the Six Million Dollar Man, too!! Or CSI: Miami -- Area 51!

I know the show is a bit on the "hokey" side but if you watch the earlier episodes it's not as bad as it has become. Put Caine back in the lab and quit trying to win the Captain Kirk bad acting award!;)

Just bring him back from the Federal Witness Protection Program! Whomever he testified against got bumped off, that branch of the mob wiped out, and no one is after him now. Simple!

Speed was my favorite character--and I also stopped watching due to the Horatio character-(it wasn't just the acting-the whole character is creepy-What's up with his "Friend to all Children" act?--wasn't that Gamera's gig?) I don't see how they will pull this off. "Evil Twin" would be stupid. "Scheming Lookalike," on the other hand...
