Criminal Minds Cuts Patinkin from Premiere

Mandy Patinkin by Nigel Parry/CBS
Another summer, another CBS actor forgets to set his/her alarm.

Multiple sources confirm that Mandy Patinkin is being written out of the season premiere of Criminal Minds after he failed to report to work.

Reps for the show declined comment, but it's safe to assume that the actor/chanteuse is embroiled in some kind of nasty contract standoff with the network. (The work stoppage was first reported by the sleuths over at E! Online.)

Coincidentally, Minds just put out a casting call for a character that fits Patinkin's description. What odd timing, eh?

When are these CBS stars going to learn? I mean, Les Moonves fired Valerie Harper from a show called Valerie!

Much more to come on this fast-moving story. In the meantime, would you still watch a Patinkin-less Minds? Yes, ***m*s ***s**, we know you would, but what about the rest of ya? Sound off below!

Guess this makes the prima donna blind item a little brighter, and Thomas Gibson a little happier. I for one really like Mandy Patinkin in general and on the show. I can't picture someone else, even remotely like him, that could fill his shoes.

Even though I love love love Mandy Patinkin as a performer... he's got a rep as SUCH a trouble making diva. When there's that many stories out there about a performer -- a pattern of truth emerges.

Too bad this happened too late for him to reprise his role as Rube in the Dead Like Me movie that's currently shooting.

One man does not make the show. I will continue to watch minus Mandy. Wish I made half the money he did.;)

CM without Mandy? No way. I will find something else to do during that hour. He made the show. I miss Dead Like Me also....When will the networks learn?

As long as they keep coming up with great scripts, Mandy wouldn't be missed. However, when they dropped Lola Glaudini, I almost quit watching. She was my main reason for watching the show in the first place.

"..would you still watch a Patinkin-less Minds?"

Let's see -- how can I put this tactfully?

I am just as likely to watch a Patinkin-less Minds as I am to watch one that is Patinkin-ed.

That's right -- not at all.

Personally, I think this is all T.R. Knight's fault. Aren't these kinds of things always his fault?

I'm patinkin they are.

Ok, while I can sort of understand calling a guy a diva for lack of a more appropriate, gender-specific term, chanteuse does not work. A chanteuse is specifically a woman, and chanteur isn't really used in English. But, wait! I have a nutty idea. Why not call him a singer?

I am so happy to hear that Mandy P. is gone because I did not like him. My fav characters were Shemar Moore, the guy with the glasses andf the guy that head of the section. I also loved the blond. girl.

I knew nothing about Mandy P's onset/offset prima donna stuff but I certainly picked it up in his characterization which is why I didn't like him.

I, personally, would not call him a singer.

How about chanteuserino? Does that make it masculine enough?

How unprofessional! I'm *more* inclined to watch the Patinkin-less version. I can't blame the guy for trying to renegotiate his contract but not showing up for work to try to make a point. He'd be so out of there...

Moonves let Mandy leave Chicago Hope. Why not? He's probably already placing calls to William Devane.

Hmm, not sure what to say. I've been a fan of Mandy's since I was 10 (the first year of Chicago Hope). As far as his diva behavior, with his talent, I'd be a diva too. If they do ditch him and recast or create a new character, I can almost guarantee the ratings for CM will drop just like CH did after he left. I'd be more inclined to watch a Thomas Gibson-less CM than a Mandy Patinkin-less CM. Even though I absolutely LOVE Kirsten Vangsness
