Breaking: First Full-Season Pickup Goes to...

... CW's guilty and pleasurable Gossip Girl!

A network spokesperson confirms that the increasingly addictive Josh Schwartz confection has been greenlit for a full, 22-episode season.

Although its ratings have been only so-so, GG has seen substantial gains once DVR usage is factored in. And buoyed by strong word-of-mouth, the show's two most recent episodes rank among the top 5 downloaded shows on iTunes. Oh, look — a quote from CW head Dawn Ostroff!

"People everywhere are talking about Gossip Girl and we believe this show will continue to build audience as it builds buzz. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have created an incredibly heightened-reality world that viewers are locking into while advertisers, affiliates and press have also embraced the show. The series has earned its early pick-up and we look forward to a long run on The CW."

Are you as enthused about GG's pickup as Ostroff? Well, see that pretty white box down there? Use it!

This makes me very happy. Gossip Girl is my new guilty pleasure!! I love it!

Now, we just need pick-ups for Chuck, Pushing Daisies, and Dirty Sexy Money. Oh, and Private Practice too, I guess.

I love this show.
Now they need to do the same with Reaper, and we'll all be even happier. :)

I'm beside myself with shame to admit that yes I am one of those DVR usage folks.

I am thrilled GG got picked up for a full season.

i don't know where most people get their info, most of buzz has been negative, but the show does show a slight bit of promise, could turn into something halfway decent, Also Penn and Leighton must be celebrating they broke the curse , finally a show that lasts a full season

this is good. Next up I want Pushing Daisies, Life, Dirty Sexy Money, and maybe Chuck renewed. Get on that ABC and Life.

Michael, please do NOT call Gossip Girl, GG. :-p I miss my Gilmore Girls! :(

Anyway I don't think the buzz has been that great and I don't think the numbers are all that great, but I'm not surprised by this decision, because nothing has been a break-out hit for the CW yet and they can't cancel all of their new shows or their network would cease to exist. So while I'm not exactly thrilled because I don't really like the show that much, I guess I knew it was going to happen.

That is great news! Leaves plenty of time for some more Fergie acapellas!

This is great news! Now just waiting to hear about Pushing Daisies & Dirty Sexy Money (as well as a few others which have yet to air). Also, I'm hoping Side Order of Life gets a pick-up for the summer season of 2008.

I am so pleased, I like this show and turn red when I admit it to actual people. I understand I am giving up Criminal Minds and Bionic Woman (or at least until CBS puts C.M. on demand and/or I get sick of Private Practice) for Gossip Girl, but it is such pleasant entertainment. And because I like to see nice people do well, I am glad Kristen Bell will have two paying gigs for this year. And I have to be jealous as she can go to that job in her pajamas, and she is possibly all done already.

Oh, but I hope Reaper gets the green light too (I am right now looking forward to it and it won't be on for about six more hours)
