Exclusive: Sarah Chalke Preps Mother of a Comeback
Sarah Chalke by Jesse Grant/WireImage.com
OMFG, she is so the mother! I think.
I'm hearing from multiple sources that Sarah Chalke is in advanced talks to reprise her role as Ted's possible future wife on How I Met Your Mother.
In fact, just moments ago, Chalke's Mother crush himself, Josh Radnor — here to shoot a guest appearance for next week's Ausiello Report vodcast — confirmed that we'd probably be seeing Stella for a "few more episodes" this season. He was quick to add, however, that he has no clue whether or not she's the mother. "I really don't know," he said, "nor do I ask."
Radnor also pleaded ignorance regarding the possibility of Britney Spears returning as Chalke's unhinged assistant, although he expressed confidence that exec producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas "could write a great plot for her to come back."
Neil Patrick Harris may prove a harder sell. Radnor's costar told the Associated Press that too much of Spears may not be a good thing. "I'm in the minority that our show does not need stunt casting in order to succeed," he said. "I worry that if they start Will & Grace-ing us too much, the show will suffer. And we're all really proud of the content of the show. I mean, viewership is not our game. It's the network and the studio's game, you know. It's the promotion department's game."
Can't say I disagree with him on that.
But enough about Spears. This story is about Chalke, and I'm curious: How many of you are hoping she's the mom?

I love NPH verbing "Will and Grace"...that show is the poster child for guest star overkill.

I would love for Sarah to be the mother. Or I wouldn't mind speculating that she's the mother for the next four or five years, and then have it turn out to be someone else. Whatever. I think Sarah Chalke would be a seamless addition to the cast after a brilliant stint on Scrubs!
Let me add that I agree with NPH wholeheartedly (although I suspect, sadly, that he and I probably need to take a big reality pill).

I totally agree with Neil Patrick Harris. I wonder if he remembers being a special guest star on Will and Grace?

My sentiments exactly.. I liked the character but don't want her to be the mother... I'd rather him actually say that exact line.. Then, if the show were to continue for another season or so, the kids could actually start to be interested in the story and ask to hear more....
I definitely agree about the stunt casting though.. I've liked some of the guest stars (Mandy Moore, Sarah Chalke), but it is getting close to W&G territory... I think the show has enough quality to stand on its own.. The ratings might not be great, but as NPH said, that's not his worry.... They just need the promotions department (or whatever) to do their part and advertise the show, besides when they have a big guest star..

Another thing I forgot to mention is the timeline.. We don't know exactly when all of the sessions took place... But I thought they've made it clear that Ted has not actually met the mother yet.. We still don't know the umbrella story, either, but it seems like if it were Stella or anyone he's met at this point, that would have been tied in somehow... Plus, there's also the fact that Stella has an 8 year old daughter, and I would think the kids would be able to figure out then that she was the mother as soon as they heard that part about Stella...

I think Sarah is a great choice for the Mother. I will be disappointed if she is not. I could not care less if Brit is ever on the show again but Sarah must continue.

the show is how i met your mother -- if Sarah is the mother than why has he been telling his kids a story -- two seasons before he actually meets the mother. Also, how will Sarah Chalke do this and Scrubs.

Sarah Is Awesome. I hope she ends up being the mother. I mean, come on. Look at her.
Of course I'm sure she will not be the mother though, but it would be nice.

NPH is right on, Also just because Sarah comes back does not mean she is the mother, you have to have the lead date someone to keep it interesting, it would also be fun to have a episode where all of Ted's former flames comeback and its revealed who the mother is

I would group HIMYM in with 30 Rock before I would with Will & Grace. 30 Rock has had a ton of guest stars already, but they've always been cast perfectly and have been there for the role itself more than for the sake of having the guest. W&G was always about "Hey, look who we have this week!!" HIMYM hasn't went into that territory, I don't think.
I agree that it would be awesome to have a surprise reveal of the mother, with that line. But I'm also a big fan of Sarah Chalke. So I don't know.

Times like this, I always think... what would a producer do? This is a bubble show, and without knowing if they'd be picked up... I'm sure they brought in Stella (Chalke) so they could end with a Mom if need be. If they DO get picked up (PLEASE GOD LET IT BE), then they can have a relationship and break up and then he can move on to the real mother later down the road. So while I absolutely LOVE her, I'm hoping not... cause that means another season.
