Exclusive: A Second Trees Romance Takes Root

Searching for true love? Forget Paris. Hop a plane to Elmo, Alaska Squamish, British Columbia and ask for directions to the Men in Trees set.

Emily Bergl and Derek Richardson — who play adorable (and in-love) misfits Annie and Patrick on ABC's criminally neglected romantic dramedy — have become the latest Trees couple to find love off screen, multiple sources confirm to me exclusively. "They started dating last year," whispers a Trees insider. "They’re happy and in love."

This is the second instance of life imitating art on Tree's tucked-away Canadian set. During the show's first season, a then-spoken-for Anne Heche fell for her married leading man, James Tupper. The pair have since left their respective spouses and remain very much an item.

I don’t know about you guys, but there's something about all of these Trees duos coupling up in real life that warms my cold heart. Now, if only ABC would show MIT half as much love as the actors have shown each other, maybe we'd all get our happy ending. Speaking of which, don't forget to catch MIT in its new Wednesday at 10 pm/ET time slot beginning Feb. 27. Mark your calendars. Using erasable ink.

You forgot about another on and off screen pairing. Sara and whatshisname Priest are a pair off screen too. They were together already though when he joined the show.

Now, all we have to hear is something about Annie Potts hooking up with the guy that plays Jerome and I'll believe that the water is spiked with something up there!

criminally neglected

Yes! That would be MiT.

If MiT is returning on the 27th, does that mean that we will be done with Cashmere Mafia the week before, or is that moving to some other time? Who can keep up with all this besides you, Mikey.

I love this show! ABC has treated a gem of a show like it's dirt. When will they show Jenny Bicks some respect and let the show finally come to light.

Please Michael, we know you have some pull, get them to air the remaining shows.

I am beside myself why networks dis shows like MiT and FNL for reality crap like "Moment of Truth" come on. Give a good show a little love. I am so MAD at how ABC has treated this show from the beginning.

Thanks Autumn Dreamer; I was going to throw that one out there too! Yes, Pastor Eric and Sara have been an item for years.

In fact, he's the main reason I watch this show. And since it appears he's not on Kyle XY the rest of the season...bring MiT back for heaven's sake!!

These things never work out, why do people on shows think they do. This is just another sign that shows a lack of maturity on the actors part.

So, to look on the bright side, on purely selfish motivations, at least it comes back on my birthday!!

My question though, as it appears that the writer's strike is coming to a tentative resolution, ABC wouldn't do this again to the show, would it? And if it does, does anyone have any suggestions about what to inundate ABC with for the show? A la nuts and Jericho.

I love the show Men in Trees and I love all the real-life love. Now if ABC could just realize that this show is amazing!

Can't wait for MIT to return. I'm seriously fed up with abc and their lack of respect for us who love this show. Why won't they leave this show alone and let it develop a loyal audience? I have no doubt that this show can succeed and continue to entertain us for many more seasons if only abc will make a commitment and stick with it!

AfleetAlex - thanks for reminding me of Eric's name. It's been so long that I forgot!

I'm also tired of how ABC treats MiT. It'd rather air repeats of Greys than air original and new programming. What gives?

Oh, Michael! What great scoop you have! I love these two, and Men in Trees! It will be a treat to see the next 11 episodes when they finally start airing again in a few weeks. Oh please, ABC, don't change the schedule again for this show. I so want it to succeed so we can have another season after this one!

I just noticed your comment, Kate2777, and the answer is that the fans at ABC.com's Men in Trees message board have started an amazing campaign to get ABC's attention. If you go to the thread titled "PLANT FOOD TREES TO SAVE OUR SHOW," you'll get all the info.

So cute. Emily's adorable and it's nice that she blogs for TV Guide because it feels like she's one of the family. I guess the whole situation is conducive to hooking up. Good luck to all of them.

Hey AfleetAlex, love the name. Got anybody in mind for the Derby this year?
