Exclusive: Justin Hartley Eyes Smallville Comeback
Justin Hartley in Smallville by Michael Courtney/The CW
It's time for an all-new adventure in arithmetic, Ausholes!
Justin Hartley's CW drama pilot, Austin Golden Hour, failed to receive a pick-up this week. + The towering Adonis has a talent-holding deal with the CW, which means the network pretty much owns him for the foreseeable future. + His Green Arrow was wildly popular on Smallville, and fans have been clamoring for the Justice Leaguer's return since the moment he left. + In light of Michael Rosenbaum's impending Smallville exit — Lex bids adieu in tonight's season finale (8 pm/ET) — and Kristin Kreuk's decreased role next season, the show needs all the familiar faces it can get its hands on. + Sources confirm to me exclusively that producers are very keen on bringing Hartley back into the fold ASAP. = Duh. Justin Hartley is (probably) returning to Smallville next season as Green Arrow!
Are you guys getting the same thing? Crunch the numbers and let me know!

1. Oooh, first post (never had that happen before).
2. Yaaay! Hartley's great as Arrow and it'll help out Mack's Chloe to actually interact with her superhero "boss" for once. I'm a newspaper writer and (unpublished) fiction writer (and, no, those aren't the same thing). Golden writing and TV rule is show, don't tell. Even better, show and tell.
3. Perhaps this opens the way for more of the JL to come back, too, especially with Doomsday on the way, Clark'll need all the help he can get. (And, by the way, wouldn't it be great if the once-upon-a-time JL series got the -ahem- "green" light?)
With Mack's contract back on track, this is extra good news for Smallville fans.

Any chance we'll see Annette O'Toole again? And what is going on with Laura Vandervoort?

What a bummer to have that contract between him and the CW and then for them to not even pick his show up. Let's hope it DOES result in him coming back to Smallville. In the last few years, the show's strongest moments have been when Green Arrow is around.

Sign this guy up as a series regular. Smallville is going to need all the extra help it can get next season.

This is a GOOD idea.
Also will the CW realize they need to just Spin Hartley off into a Green Arrow SHOW of his freakin' own?

Count me in! I would love Justin to be a regular. I do miss having Annette O'Toole on the show and wish the show would bring her back. We need Mama Kent!

This is great news. The best episodes of the last few years have been the Green Arrow episodes. He's the one person pushing Clark to his destiny (not everyone who needs help can come to you).
I can't believe they can't find a show for this guy, he exudes charisma, charm and humor.

I had a feeling that this was coming. If TPTB insist on moving Chloe away from journalism, the ONLY suitable alternative is for her to work more closely with GA and the JL. Also--Chloe/Oliver? Kinda hot. Not only does this take care of the problem with Clark's dependency on Chloe, but it'll give AM an arc that doesn't involve being a slave to Clark's wants and needs.
I must say, in the span of about 24 hours, things are looking MUCH brighter for S8.

Last few years, Di? GA's been around consistently only last season. Of course, he, along with TC and MR, made it watchable, as the show hasn't been that great since Jonathan was killed.
But I'm happy both will be back.

Will they bring back the black canary also? If next year is THE last, then I hope they do.
Otherwise, I could see next year as a real transition year. They could have other members of the JLA float in and out in accordance with plot development. I would like to see the black canary float in towards the end of the year, with a goal of making her permanent in the JLA spin-off that could follow. The show could focus on GA (and maybe martian man-hunter) as he/they tries to build the JLA and be do-gooders along the way. Heroes to be named at a later date could also be regulars. That way they could get x number of Clark appearances, Lois, and others. This would be a great way to grow the brand with charasmitic stars for a net that will desperate for shows next year. The CW's slate is not exactly strong.

I'd love to see more GA on the show, but more importantly, they need to spin the Green Arrow off into his own show already.
Dawn Ostroff wants to court the 12-34 women, I get that, though I think that's way too small of a demographic... but if they spun off GA, not only would they get that audience (because most women 12-24 do find Justin to be hot), but they'd get the comic book geeks like myself watching too. The addition of Black Canary wouldn't hurt, either. I'd much prefer a Green Arrow series over a ninth season of Smallville should it come between the two next year.
Justin's a talented guy; but if I had to choose between "Grey's Anatomy 24 style," a sitcom, or Green Arrow: The Series, I know what I'd pick.
