Exclusive: Jackson's Grey's Stint Fades to Black

It appears Joshua Jackson's Grey's Anatomy gig has ended before it began. And once again, the writers' strike is to blame.

To quickly recap, Grey's announced last fall that the ex-Dawson's Creeker would be joining the cast for a multi-episode arc as a doctor and, as I would later report, a love interest for Cristina. Unfortunately, just weeks before he was scheduled to shoot his first episode, the writers went on strike and Jackson's stint, just like the TV biz itself, was put on hold.

Cut to present day: The strike is over, Grey's is headed back into production, and Jackson is — yep, you guessed it — no longer available. During the work stoppage, J.J. Abrams hand-picked the actor to headline his new X-Files-esque Fox series Fringe, which is currently in production in Toronto (and will be through mid-March). Although an attempt was made to make the scheduling work, ultimately the logistics proved too daunting.

Now Grey's is forced to either recast the role or scrap it entirely. An ABC spokesperson declined to comment, but a Seattle Grace insider says a final decision will likely be made in the coming days.

Personally, I'm bummed we won't get to see Pacey and Cristina mix it up. I have a thing for unlikely romantic pairings, and this one was about as unlikely as they come. Feel free to agree or disagree with me in the comments section below. And while you're at it, throw out some names of potential replacements — should Grey's opt to go the recast route. Hey, I hear James Van Der Beek's free!

This is the best news I've heard in awhile. I HATE JJ! I just don't get why people fawn all over him.

while I am bummed Josh wont be on Greys I am delighted to hear that it is because he is getting his own show. Josh was my first ever celebrity crush from the Mighty Ducks days. I'm glad to see he is in such demand.

This is totally easy, and has a JJ connection--two words: Michael Vartan.

aw, that is a bummer. get all psyched for the possibility, and then *poof* -- up in smoke it goes. hopefully there'll be some other sweet storylines to make up for it. ;)

Yes. Michael Vartan would be incredible.

Or if they're looking for someone younger, bring on Ian Somerhalder. Seattle Grace would be so pretty to look at:-x

JJ would have have been cool to see on Greys.

How about Jason Street from FNL, since that cast isnt doing anything this spring. Speaking of Greys and FNL, im ready for Meredith to have another dream sequence so Kyle Chandler can make an appearance.

Why does Cristina need a love interest anyway? She's supposed to getting over Burke. Oh wait. This is Seattle Grace - where no one mourns anything. They just get into bed with their best friends and forget about their true loves.

Seriously, Yang needs to be yanked. She makes me cringe every time she appears on the screen.

I really hope they pick an unknown actor because casting all these famous stars has a tint of "jump the shark."

YES! Michael Vartan. For Meredith not Cristina.

I love how at the first sign of a less-than-stellar episode, or a plot/casting/lighting/makeup decision that isn't people's favorites, everyone starts saying a show has "jumped the shark." One guest star does not a shark jump make. Neither does a weak season or even just a gradual decline of a show. Unless they actually bring back the Fonz and have him as the new chief of surgery in Seattle Grace and he saves a life by providing new hair gel, I think we can stop the jumping the shark talk.
