Exclusive: Jerry O'Connell Carpooling to Samantha Who?

Carpoolers may have stalled at ABC, but the network is still making use of star Jerry O'Connell. Sources confirm to me exclusively that O'Connell has hitched a ride to Samantha Who?, where he'll play someone from Samantha's past. His episode is scheduled to air on April 28.

I don't know about you guys, but when I think of Jerry O'Connell and Christina Applegate together, the words "comedy dream team" come to mind.

I love Samantha Who? But, I really can't stand Jerry O'Connell. I really hope this appearance is a 1 shot deal. If he's made a permanent cast member, I don't think I'd be able to watch the show anymore.

The words Jerry O'Connell and comedy shouldn't even be in the same sentence. It's not that I don't like him (I actually like several parts he's played on TV and in movies), but he's about as funny as flesh-eating bactieria.

Michael - I could NOT disagree more about your dream team of Christina Applegate and Jerry O'Connell. Love her - cannot stand him so if he HAS to be on her show, I hope it's just a one time appearance. Then send him and that ginormous head of his far far away from Samantha.

This is horrible news. I could not disagree with you more. Jerry O'Connell may be a perfectly lovely person, but his acting is loud - in your face - and in no way a good fit for a very gentle, delightful show. I love Barry Watson, and I love Christina, and til this moment - the other casting has been a reasonable fit - but this may well be the death of a very wonderful show. He's that bad.

I like both these actors, Barry and Jerry. So whenever, whatever happens, I will still be happy. Just as long as we get a little Samantha Who? again.

Also, if you do not think Jerry can be funny, find video of him mocking Tom Cruise, I think it is Funny or Die, not positive though. Hi-freaking-larious. I laughed the whole time.

Again, the debate is not whether he is funny - it's whether he is a good fit for an existing show. He's not. I too have seen him be funny, but just as I would not dispute a wide variety of comic actors skill at making someone laugh - I absolutely cringe to think of someone (anyone - not just him) with a more slapstick style of humor joining a show with a more subtle, gentle style and tone. There is a very long list of shows that were extremely funny shows where slapstick would have harmed the storytelling, and probably equally as many where the more subtle, understated humor would have equally harmed the storytelling. It's about fit - not talent.
