I wanted to watch this. Then I came to my senses and remembered it was on FOX. I figured it'd be better in the end if I didn't. How sad that I was spot on.

Come on! I was really liking that show! Now we will never know who the woman from the subway was. Oh well..... on brighter sides Eli Stone should be back!!! Right??

This is very upsetting. While immortal shows have been done before (Highlander, of course, and vampire shows, such as Angel, Forever Knight and, now, Moonlight), my wife and I really loved New Amsterdam. We were especially impressed with the exploration into what family means to an immortal; the revelation that Omar was his son just floored us and added a wonderful layer to that relationship. I don't suppose anyone else would be game to picking the show up, would they? What a shame.

Autumn Dreamer, that makes two of us.
I've had enough of FOX screwing the viewers over. I won't be watching any of their new shows unless they're solid hits and have already been picked up for a second season. If I miss out on the beginning of something good, so be it. I can always catch up.

Oh well.... I enjoyed the show while it lasted and recorded it.... I also liked Canteberry's Law... But I guess only a high concept drama like Prison Break or a quirky doctor drama like House will survive on FOX.. I wonder if the X-Files would have survived in this climate????? It certainly was no ratings hit when it started...

This is the proof that rating aren't everything. New Amsterdam has had OK ratings, but I can see where it is at odds with the FOX network's right-wing political agenda. It's a pity, because I really enjoyed this show and looked forward to every episode. The flashbacks were more interesting than the 'vampire' mode it resembles, since John had kids and other normal things he had to deal with. I really wanted to see him with Peter Styversant (old "Peg Leg") and hoped he would head for Amsterdam with the early Quakers who established Freedom of Religion in New York. What did he do when the Eire Canal was being built? Where was he the day the first ferry connected Brooklyn and New York shortly after Steam Ships were developed? What about when the Brooklyn Bride opened? Now we'll never know.

Damn it! I liked the show. It was so much better than the mess that Prison Break has become. It's a shame that shows aren't allowed to find their footing. *sigh* As others before me said, I liked the exploration of a "normal" Immortal guy, with kids and issues.
Oh well. At least I still have House and Bones on that network. Hopefully they won't be going anywhere anytime soon!

That sucks. I really want to now, who the one really was. Is there any chance, that there will be some kind of statement, what they had in mind John Amsterdam?

I think New Amsterdam was a good show with lots of potential. I wish FOX had patience and would have given the show time to grow (I believe it was showing such signs when it went off the air), a la X-Files. Oh well. I am glad I had the chance to watch it and enjoy it while it lasted.

Another show I enjoyed, but I had a feeling right from the start that it wouldn't have a very devoted following, so I didn't get my hopes up.
I echo mmph's comment that I have higher hopes for Eli Stone. That cancellation would really get me down. This one, I'm a little more philosophical.

Well, at least the writers went on strike so we got to see all the episodes that were made. I'm with the others on FOX shows. No watching until it's already a hit and then maybe only once it's on DVD.
