Exclusive: Diane Farr's Numbers Up

Diane Farr in Numbers by Bill Inoshita/CBS
Looks like Numbers will be minus its female star when it returns next fall.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Diane Farr has opted not to renew her contract and will leave the CBS procedural later this season. Farr joined Numbers in 2005, filling the void left by Sabrina Lloyd. Prior to that, she spent two seasons lugging around heavy equipment and making goo-goo eyes at Daniel Sunjata on FX's Rescue Me.

There's no word on how her character, G-woman Megan Reeves, will be written out, or in which of this season's six remaining episodes she will last appear (Numbers returns April 4). In what could be a clue, Megan's on-again/off-again romance with Peter MacNicol's Larry is expected to heat up as the season winds down. Perhaps they'll head off into the sunset together?

Producers, meanwhile, are already searching for Farr's replacement. On Monday, Numbers began casting the role of Nikki Donati, a 27- to 35-year-old ex-LAPD officer who joins the FBI in search of a "bigger and badder" challenge. She's described as a full-blown adrenaline junkie whose gritty street perspective makes her a great foil for her boss.

Now, help me out with this math problem: Farr – Numbers = What? A sucky development? A fantastic opportunity to reenergize the show with some new blood? The worst thing to happen to Peter MacNicol since the final season of Ally McBeal? Crunch the Numbers and post the results below!

I'm disappointed Michael. While I prefer Sabrina Lloyd I do feel that Diane Farr had a great character and her relationship with Peter MacNicol is what brought great personal drama to the program. If she is leaving it'll be too bad but maybe they could get Lloyd back? Farr played the team's profiler, as did Sabrina, and I'm not sure I like the sound of some young ex-cop who needs a new rush

This is terrible news :(

I'm sad to hear this, the addition of Diane after the first year really increased my enjoyment of the show. I especially like her unlikely romance with Peter MacNicol's character. Hopefully her exit won't mean Larry will have a broken heart.

Aw I loved Diane Farr's Meghan Reeeves on the show. I also think its bad for the show. I mean sure maybe it'll add some new spark but I loved it the way it was!

I wonder which male cast member the new chick will end up romantically entangled with. My guess is Colby.

What this series needs is a REAL mathematician....why not hire Winnie from the Wonder years??

Oh, this is not good. I much prefer Diane Farr to Sabrina Lloyd (who I barely remember...her character was that, well, unmemorable). I also loved the Megan/Larry romance (especially since it confounded Colby so much!) I hope this doesn't mean that Peter MacNicol is leaving the show, too. I'm just not good with change, I guess. Well, I'm sorry to see Diane go...not too excited to have an adrenaline junkie take her place...and am hoping Peter stays.

Shouldn't the math problem be Numbers - Farr = What? The show is having something subtracted from it.

Is that too advanced for a liberal arts major?

I don't want to see another gorgeous woman showing up who gets involved with one of the special agents. It worked with Farr because they hooked her up with Larry. I'd rather them not add anyone to the team and just go with what they have. Can't Aya Sumika come back? Then maybe they could add an atypical profiler and all is well.

I will miss her.

I, too am not thrilled by the "street adrenaline junkie" idea. What are they thinking? Aren't there enough of those on TV already? In my opinion, the intelligent, well-rounded female is a far better character on a show like this. If they cast the new female as "one of the guys, except a 'hot chick' version," I might just quit watching.

While I'm sad to see "Megan" go, I'm not that surprised. They've made her character very conflicted this season and I think it's been leading up to this. I will definitely miss her character though, she and Larry were so cute!

Oh I'm sorry to hear Diane Farr is leaving numbers. Liked her on that show, like that show.

Hmm, maybe Christina Cox from 'Blood Ties' should audition for this one! She'd live that show up!

I can't think of ANY show that has a female adrenaline junkie on it! I love the idea and would like to see an actress like Carla Gugino or maybe an Amy Smart play the role!

Aw, she was so charming as Maria's hippie mom in "Roswell." I hope she returns to fun quirky characters. The FBI part seemed kinda dry for such an edgy actress.
