Desperate Housewives' exhaustive and months-long search for an actor to play Katherine Mayfair's infamous ex has come to an end. And the winner is... Gary Cole!

[Crickets]

Sources confirm that the onetime West Wing veep has landed the pivotal part and will first air on April 20, DH's second episode back. Cole is expected to stick around for a handful of episodes.

Thoughts? I know, Ray Liotta would've been creepier better, but he turned it down. It's time to move on. I have.

Thank god the headline did not read, "Housewives Exclusive: Ex Marks the Spot for Gary Coleman." I got a little scared at first!

I remember Cole very well as the creepy Sheriff, Lucas Buck, on Shaun Cassidy's late lamented, and all to short, American Gothic series (1995-'96). I think he'll do just fine.

Gary Cole can be creepy too. Didn't you see the Brady Bunch movies?

William Fichtner would have been a great choice. Right Michael! He should be free because Prison Break has already wrapped for the season.

Gary Cole is a BRILLIANT actor! His Sheriff Buck in American Gothic was creepy and totally sexy!! He's a much better choice than Ray Liotta! He deserves more work. He's TOTALLY HOT!!! I LOVE HIM!!!

Bwahaha, kryptogal!

I think that Gary Cole is wonderful at playing creepy. One of the first things that I saw him in (one of his first roles, in fact) was Fatal Vision, based on a true story of a man (Karl Malden) who works for a decade to prove that his son-in-law (Cole) murdered his daughter and their children. I think that Cole is so good at playing creepy because he looks so all-American handsome.

I have seen Gary Cole play everything from creepy villain to wholesome dad and I've begun to think he's an under-utilized and under-recognized gem of an actor. I think he'll do just fine on DH.

I loooooooooooooooooove Gary Cole! I still have a crush on him from Midnight Caller :) Desperate Housewives does the best casting for children of the 80's. First BJ Mackay, then Richard Chamberlain, and now this!!! Happy dance :)

Mmmm, yeah, I'm gonna need you to work this Saturday, researching Cole's roles. I'll need that put into a TPS report by Monday.

He can do creepy. Very creepy.

The headline for this story on the home page should say Dana Delaney's husband, not Kim Delaney's!!!

I LOVE Gary Cole! This is great news to me. American Gothic was one of those great shows that didn't get a chance and he was wonderful in it. Also, I love his show Midnight Caller. Anyone remember that one?

I agree - I think Gary Cole is an inspired choice for this role! And to the poster who mentioned "Midnight Caller," that was a really good show - I've liked Gary ever since then. I can see the sparks between him and Dana - can't wait for "Desperate Housewives" to return (among others!)
