HIMYM/Britney Fallout: Silverstone Out, Chalke In!
Alicia Silverstone by Jordan Strauss/ WireImage.com, Sarah Chalke by Justin Lubin/NBC Universal Photo
Britney Spears' havoc-wreaking cameo on How I Met Your Mother has already claimed its first victim. A Mother insider confirms that Alicia Silverstone — who was slated to appear in a multi-episode arc as Ted's dermatologist/lover — has dropped out and will be replaced by Scrubs' Sarah Chalke.
Pink Is the New Blog reports that Silverstone bowed out because her reps (understandably) feared she would be overshadowed by Spears, who, per my sources, will play an assistant to the dermatologist now being portrayed by Chalke. As a result, I'm hearing Mother bosses Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have reconceived the female doc character. Originally slated to appear in multiple episodes, she'll now be in just one — mostly because that's all Chalke's schedule will allow. The diminished screen time would also seem to eliminate any hope there was of her being Ted's future yellow-umbrella-carrying wife (aka the "Mother").
But Mother still has big plans for Silverstone. "[Bays and Thomas] love Alicia," whispers my mole, "and they intend to create another character for her."
All of this begs a critical question: Is Spears worth the headache? Provided she brings in enough viewers to get Mother off CBS' endangered list, I reckon she is!

Although I wish that poor confused Britney Spears only the best (as long as it brings no harm to her innocent little boys), I would much rather see Alicia Silverstone on HIMYM, especially in a multi-episode arc. I think the producers made a big mistake. Who's next? Paris Hilton?

Sounds like A. S. has a bit of an ego problem. Get over yourself!

Well that's kind of crap, I'm not a fan of Britney, but I thought it'd be 'different' for her to guest on the show, but not at the expense of Alicia Silverstone. That really blows, although I agree, clearly that does say a lot about how highly Alicia seems to think of herself. Maybe we actually just dodged a bullet, who knows? Never been a huge Sarah Chalke fan though, so that was a crappy turn of events. Now I'm bummed.

Alicia really looks like a diva now (though it might be the decision of her management to pull her out, I'm not sure). If it was her decision, then she should get over herself. Ever since the 90s ended, she's not a star anymore and hasn't really had success. Though I'd say that she didn't even have that much success in the 90s, if you look at her resumé on imdb.com, there are only a couple of movies that people know of.
Would have liked to see her on HIMYM though, since I am still creeped out about Britney's cameo.
Can't imagine Sarah Chalke hanging out with the HIMYM crowd.

I usually don't watch HIMYM, but I will to see Britney, she just might save your show.

I agree Alicia looks pretty foolish here, if she's worried about being upstaged, she must not have enough confidence in her own charms. She should have just stayed on and trusted that she's the better talent of the two.
I adore Sarah Chalke though, so I'm glad to see her there.

I cant believe that one of my favorite shows, HIMYM, would be STUPID enough to have the train wreck that is Brittany on it! I, for one, will make that a MUST MISS episode! I am soooo disappointed that the IIC would think Brittany would bring ANYTHING good to an already great show! Cannot stand her, will not watch her!

Because Chalke's schedule will now only allow one ep, does that mean that the Scrubs move to ABC is definite?
While I love me some HIMYM, I love Scrubs even more! Michael, what's the current status of Scrubs?!?!?!

I think it's a pretty asinine move to boycott that episode for the sole reason that Britney Spears is on it when you KNOW that the ratings are so low. You obviously can't be that much of a fan if you think you can afford to do that...

As much as I love Mother I was very disappointed to find out about the stunt casting of Britney Spears. I know there have been celeb appearances but this just seems desparate.
Seriously, with all that's been going on in Britney Spears's life, is she even going to be coherent enough to do this show? Would any of YOU want to work with her right now?

What a stupid decision on the producers' part. I was looking forward to Alicia (and will welcome Sarah), but how tacky, stupid, and pathetic to stunt-cast a talentless, train-wreck of a human. I agree with lmzadi, Paris Hilton must be next.
As for AS' decision to bow out, I'm sure this was on the advice of her management and will probably prove to be a wise decision. Would you want your career as a successful actress linked with such a desperate stunt? Yuck.

People - READ the article...it goes on to say that though Alicia won't be playing this particular part, Bays and Thomas want to create another role for her. If she was interested the first time around, I'm sure she will be able to work another part into her schedule.
I'm just a little sorry that she isn't confident enough to be on the show with Britney - I don't see it as ego or "diva" behavior, just a little afraid of being overshadowed. That's too bad...although, as has been mentioned, maybe it 's her agents and not Ailcia per se who backed off.
Anyway, I'll still watch to see Britney and Sarah!

I don't understand how any HIMYM fan could be angry about Britney's casting. People, this could be the difference between getting Season 4 and losing the show altogether! I'm thrilled to put up with her for an episode if it means new viewers will watch the show. Maybe we can get Paris Hilton to stop by the town of Jericho next.
And I think it sounds so cool that Sarah Chalke is going to be playing a doctor on HIMYM. I can't wait for that.

When a show has to resort to stunt casting like this it screams desperation. Can you say "Jump the Shark?!"
