Exclusive: Buffy Alums Circling Whedon's Dollhouse

Eliza Dushku may be bunking with some old friends when she moves into Joss Whedon's Dollhouse next season. According to multiple sources, several Buffyverse grads are being considered for the eight supporting roles now being cast.

Whedon confirmed this unbelievably fraktacular turn of events moments before taking the stage at Paley Fest's Buffy tribute last Thursday. "I've read a couple of people [from the Buffyverse]," he told me, "but I'm not going to say who."

Although this would seem to contradict comments the Buffy master made to me last fall, in which he said that his "first instinct is to probably [cast] new people because I'm already reuniting with Eliza and I don't want it to seem like a house party," Whedon insists his position hasn't changed.

"It's not a hard and fast rule," clarifies the auteur, who just completed penning Dollhouse's one-hour premiere. "I just want to make sure I get the right people. And I don't want to give the impression that it's just me and my friends having a party. Some [Buffyverse alums] might work out fine. But I'm not going to just seek out people that I already know are great. That would be lazy."

You know what I say? There's nothin' wrong with being lazy if it means Whedon reuniting with the likes of James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter and Julie Landau. Of course, that's not to say that those three are the Buffyverse vets in the running for Dollhouse. But that's not to say they aren't, either. See how I protected myself there?

What Buffyverse stars would you like to see populate Dollhouse? Or do you think Whedon should trust his first instinct and surround Dushku with newbies? Those are the questions that need answering. By you. Below.

Well, it wasn't with Joss, but Tru Calling ended badly with her surrounded by new faces, so maybe we should go tried and true here...

I was hesitant to read this article, being that tvguide totally teased us last time into thinking Tony Head was on board...

So, is this for real this time?

Amy Acker, Charisma Carpenter, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion. Jonathan Woodward, Jeff Ricketts, Andy Umberger and Carlos Jacott will have to appear, too, to keep intact their streaks of playing characters in all of Joss's shows.

(psst...guavamike--I'm sure that it was just a typo, but be careful around rabid Joss fans if you're going to call him "Josh". :) )

Maybe Dushku can wake up in an episode and her doll-like part could be faith the slayer :) And in that way give us some buffyverse

Who is this "Josh" you speak of, guavamike?

On topic: Andy Hallett and Mercedes McNab I would love to see return to the screen in Dollhouse.

I'd like to see new faces in the Dollhouse, with the familiar ones used sparingly for guest roles.

Oh, I forgot Seth Green. I want him on the show, too. Andy Hallett and Mercedes McNab would be awesome--thanks for reminding me, Pharos. :)

Amy Acker...please...Amy Acker...please, can you hear me Joss?

Seriously, this will be my new fave show if Amy is on it.

What's with putting Amy's picture up there too? Is that a clue or just trying to get my hopes up??

Go with new faces. Casting people from the Buffyverse, especially those that have worked extensively with Eliza before, will just invite comparisons to Buffy and Angel which I think will deter viewers as opposed to attracting them to the show. Given the great casting job that was done on Whedon’s Firefly, I completely trust that Joss can find some amazing new talent to fill the roles.

I'm hoping for James Marsters but betting it will be Tom Lenk.
