HIMYM Exclusive: Is Alicia Silverstone the Mother?

OK, I suck at math, but even I can do the simple addition required to solve How I Met Your Mother's latest casting mystery. At least I think I can....

Sources are confirming to me exclusively that the lovely and talented Alicia Silverstone has been cast in a multi-episode arc.
+
Her character, a doctor, will be a love interest for Ted and she'll be sticking around for several episodes.
+
HIMYM has yet to be renewed for a fourth season and producers have promised that we'll meet Mother before the show concludes.
+
Even if HIMYM does come back next season — and, let's be real, CBS would be insane to cancel it — where is it written that Mother has to be introduced at the very end of the series?
=
Alicia's the mommy!

Are you guys getting the same thing?

I dunno.... This makes me very worried that this is the last season. Because if she is Mother, you'd have to be able to keep her around to the very end.

Then again, A.S. has tried now and again to launch a TV career, so maybe she is a keeper?

Is Alicia's character the maybe-married woman Ted is supposed to meet at the bar on St. Patrick's Day, that was teased in your vodcast a couple of weeks ago?

Hope not. The show is called How I Met Your Mother, not How I Met, Dated, and Married Your Mother.

In a bulletin on Myspace when the strike first started it stated in case the show get cancelled the mother is the coat check girl. I was guessing it was the girl Ted talked to in the club eppy.

No, but that doesn't really roll off the tongue very well.

I've never envisioned the show ending as soon as he met her, I always assumed their courtship and wedding would be part of the package. Would we really be satisfied without knowing what sort of woman Ted ends up with and how they act together?

Could it be that Alicia is simply a possibility for the Mother, in case the show does get canceled? I agree with itsmaddi, and I hope we don't get a long, drawn out dating season, then an engagement season, etc. etc, so my hope is simply that Ted'll meet Alicia's character, possibly fall in love, and then when word hits about the show's fate, we can either assume Alicia's the Mother (cancellation *sniff*), or she'll be dropped (A fourth season! Huzzah!).
So, excuse me while I go pray to the TV gods for the latter... Join me if you can...

I'll not only pray with you, I'll also tell you that going to http://www.savehimym.com is another way that you can help save this show. We're raising money to send sparklers to CBS (Robin Sparkles... get it?) and have just launched what promises to be a legendary contest with a really cool prize.

I always thought that the mother would be on the show but not actually meet Ted until the end.

If Alicia Silverstone's character is Stella (the doctor who removes Ted's tramp stamp), then it makes little sense for her to be the Mother: that means the most crucial moment of the series, the moment the whole darn series is named after, ALREADY happened offscreen "months" ago in series-time. I just don't think that'd fly.

Anyway, I'm a big proponent of the "Ted doesn't meet The Mother until the final seconds of the series, and even then, we might just see the back of her head" resolution. But it needn't be that way: Think of HIMYM's freshman season. Imagine what would've happened if CBS hadn't ordered the "back nine"; that would've meant that HIMYM would've ended about 13 episodes in. What was episode thirteen? "Drumroll, Please." Yep, I'm of the firm belief that Victoria was one Bob Saget voiceover away from being the mother if HIMYM had been canceled midway through the first season (of course, it wasn't, and subsequent events have ruled her out). And her, we had an entire episode to get to know.

By the way, dazed2: the coat check girl announcement was a JOKE.

I agree with Dianora. I'd hate for us to meet mother and that was it. I'd love to she who they intereact and a wedding would be nice. I'm still smarting from the lack of nuptials for Ross & Rachel!!!

They worked together on Broadway in the production of the Graduate.

they were both in the broadway run of The Graduate huh? now how do they work in kathleen turner then? (and does kathleen turner even want to be worked into the show?)

also I think its Wendy The Waitress.

No i'm pretty sure we havn't met her yet, and i'm also feeling pretty confident it won't be alicia silverstone if the show does get that eagerly awaited renewal. Me thinks, they're just trying to even out the gang a little bit by adding another woman to the cast so that they;ll be three on three girl to guy wise. or not, i don't know. Alicia Silverstone could probably use the work at this point though.

"Hope not. The show is called How I Met Your Mother, not How I Met, Dated, and Married Your Mother."

Just because he meets her now doesn't mean they'll start dating immediately.

I think Alicia Silverstone would be great casting!

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I want Ted meeting his wife to be the last few seconds of the final episode, with Bob Saget saying something like, "And kids, that's How I Met Your Mother." The final episode could be all about her and how she befriends one of the gang and is introduced to Ted at the end.

That said, while I like Alicia Silverstone, I hope this doesn't happen for another couple of seasons.
