Exclusive: ABC Courting Old Christine

Wanda Sykes and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in The New Adventures of Old Christine by Mitchell Haddad/Warner Bros. Television
ABC may exhibit questionable judgment when it comes to its own half-hour comedies (i.e., Caveman, Carpoolers, According to Jim, etc.), but the network sure has impeccable taste when it concerns its competitors' sitcoms.

Case in point: On the heels of the Alphabet's (almost official) acquisition of NBC's brilliant-but-nearly canceled Scrubs, sources are telling me that the net is making a play for Julia Louis-Dreyfus' hilarious Seinfeld-curse-busting comeback vehicle, The New Adventures of Old Christine!

According to several insiders, all of whom asked not to be identified because they would prefer to keep their jobs, execs at ABC have been engaged in informal talks with Warner Bros. Television about picking up Old Christine should CBS decide not to renew it. The third-year laffer, which earned its highest ratings of the season this week, remains very much on the bubble at CBS.

Reps at ABC and Warner Bros. were unavailable for comment.

I don't know about you guys, but the idea of an Old Christine/Samantha Who? comedy block sounds rather appealing to me. Old Christine/Scrubs doesn't suck, either. The possibilities are endless! Actually, no, they pretty much end there. What do you think? Would you rather Old Christine age gracefully on CBS? Sound off below!

Should CBS make a poor decision and drop Christine I think it would fabulous on ABC paired with Scrubs or Samantha Who?. If ABC decided to keep Miss Guided, too, they might actually have 4 good half hour comedies for the first time in...well, a very long time!

How about this for a two hour block...

Scrubs
How I Met Your Mother
Miss Guided
Samantha Who?

If HIMYM doesn't get renewed (what's the deal?) then I think we're looking at a golden night of TV.

ABC was basically my favorite network already, but I will seriously be devoted to them if they pick-up Scrubs AND Christine. How awesome would that be? You rock ABC!

I'd love them forever if they picked up Jericho too.

As long as it comes back, I don't care what network it's on. Old Christine and HIMYM are the best two shows on CBS, comedy or otherwise (well, and Dexter, but that doesn't really count) and yet they are the ones on the bubble. At least we have ABC to pick up the other network's awesome castoffs.

I'm happy as long as it stays on the air. I would love it if ABC paired it with Scrubs and or Samantha Who? JLD and the supporting cast are GOLD.

Hey, Carpoolers WAS belly laugh-funny! ABC and viewers should have really given it a chance. If critics had given it a better chance, I think fans of slightly absurdest humor, like Arrested Development, would have really loved it.

I'm extremely happy with this news! CBS has treated Christine like garbage! Finally a network sees it for the gem TV Guide and us viewers have. I am not a fan of any ABC programming, but if they pick Christine up I will be willing to watch anything they have.

I am also glad that Christine won't have to be against Samantha Who next year, which could become a pretty strong competitor. Keep in mind it is nowhere near official. But I can have my dreams!

I personally don't care where Christine is, just as long as it's around. Julia, Wanda and the rest of the cast are brilliant together.

NOOOO!!!! I hate TNAOOC! Its laugh track needs to stop taking up quality airtime.

On the bright side, if CBS ditched it they could replace it with a younger show to give HIMYM a boost.

Oh, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this happen! CBS has treated this gem of a show like crap, constantly moving its timeslot, not giving it enough attention or advertising, etc. This show deserves to remain on the air, and wherever it goes, I will follow! I love this show and I don't care where it is as long as it stays on T.V.!

Great news, Old Christine is one of my favorite shows. With over 11 million viewers, its hard to believe that its on the bubble.

It is such a gem of a show and I hope wherever it is, it gets more than a 13 ep order.

ps

cbs, I have never and will never watch Rules of Engagement, and if you pick up that show instead of Christine, that would be beyond inane.

I could give a crap less whether it stays on CBS or goes to ABC, as long as it stays on the air. It's one of the most half-hour comedies in my opinion, I LOVE it.

CBS has jerked Christine around enough, maybe ABC will be more appreciative of the show. I can not believe that CBS is more behind Rules of Engagement than it is of Christine and How I Met Your Mother. I will follow the show no matter what network it is on and the same goes for HIMYM. And Scrubs but I will leave that rant for another day.
