Episode Recap: The Kids Are Alright
Hey all! Gina here, and I'll be covering for Mickey. There was so much drama in tonight's episode that I don't even know where to begin! So with that said, let's break it down…
Distractions Galore Betty is on cloud nine when Claire assigns her an article about "the youth perspective" for Hotflash magazine. And now that her heart has been broken for two weeks since Henry left, the first person she tells the good news to is Gio. Convinced that Betty really likes him more as a friend, he plants one her, right while she's mid-sentence. Betty may have slapped him across the face, but it was obvious that she was really feeling it. Now back at work and ready to start her story, Betty gets and instant message from someone who took a picture of their smooch and the next thing she knows, the whole office is seeing it with the caption "Betty Whorez is out of control!" So much for focusing on her article assignment.
The Suarez Sisters' Suitors Meanwhile, Hilda was on a mission to land a date with the gym teacher, Coach Diaz, and agreed to chaperone Justin's school dance with him -- despite Justin's hatred of such "tacky" events. Unfortunately, Hilda catches Papi's cold, and Betty offers to go in her place so she can interview kids for her article.
While at the dance, guess who Betty bumps into? Gio, of course. He too is chaperoning for his little sister. She ultimately accepts Gio's offer for a dance, but just when there's that tension-filled moment when the two are about the kiss, Betty bolts. Gio finds her by the steps in tears, but manages to make her feel better and they walk home together. At her doorstep, it's actually Betty who asks Gio if he's like to go on a date. He turns her down, but for a good reason. He "doesn't want to be the rebound guy," he "wants to be the guy."
And as for the "Date Coach Diaz" mission, Justin decided to cut his mom off from all the games and just ask his gym teacher how he felt about Hilda. As a result, Coach Diaz showed up at the Suarez home to find Hilda looking like a hot mess. But that didn't matter because he was there to bring her soup and ask her out on a date.
Operation: Break Up The Meades Meanwhile, now that the announcement has been made that Willie will be having Bradford's baby, she's come back to Mode to claim her thrown. Bradford's will states his empire was to be split equally amongst his children, and by law, that means Willie is entitled to 1/3 of the pot until little TBD Meade is 18-years-old. Clearly 1/3 isn't good enough for Willie, so she sets out to break up the family by attacking its weakest link, Daniel (who turns in a blithering idiot when confronted by her). She shows him up at a meeting, and Marc makes a fool of him when Daniel guest stars on Larry King Live (and yes, it was really Larry). Willie lays her act on so thick that Alexis reinstates her as Creative Director without even consulting her brother or mom (both of whom don't trust her as far as they can throw her). Now the question is will she be able to steal Daniel's job?
Amanda & Marc Reunion Now that Willie has returned to the halls of Mode, her gofer, Marc, is right behind. And you know what that means – he and Amanda can be BFF again! But Amanda doesn't want Marc to get too close, especially now that she and her dad, Gene Simmons, are working on a reality show together. May sound glamorous, but the truth is, Gene only acknowledges Amanda when the cameras are rolling, and she doesn't want Marc to see that. But it's only when she goes to her dad for support after a fight with Marc that she notices his tattoo is fake! Turns out Gene Simmons ain't her daddy. She runs back to Marc with her tail between her legs, and the two share a tender moment.
All in all, I thought it was a pretty good episode. I really like how Gio called out Betty on the fact that she has feelings for him, because that's been obvious for quite some time now. But I'm torn as far as who I'd like to see her with – Gio or Henry. I'm fans of both. It was really great to see Willie in the halls of Mode again and back to all her scamming in her ultra-chic office. And I can't even begin to tell you how great it is to have Amanda and Marc join their vapid forces again.
And the Best Line of the Night Award goes to Gio: "You frenched me, Suarez. You frenched me good"
What did you all think of the episode? Were you hoping Gio and Betty would seal the deal and kiss for real? Do you think Willie is going to end up snagging Daniel's job right from under his nose? Are you thrilled to see Amanda and Marc reunited? Let's hear it!

i'm not at all conflicted anymore about the guy i'd rather see our ugly betty with - it should definitely be gio.
think about it. betty, however nervous or dorky or crazy she might be at a particular moment, is a woman who knows what she wants and is assertive enough to get it. she's certainly shy, but she can handle mark/amanda's antics - so she's definitely no pushover. now, who does that sound like? does that sound like henry, who was so dense he couldn't see through his psycho ex?
or does it sound like gio? and p.s. every time he looks at her, i kind of melt a little bit. he better stick around! (i'm kind of wishing here that we end up with a joey picks pacey over dawson situation. you know, where the original set up is with one guy, but the story takes it another place...)

So, who IM'd the picture of Betty and Gio? Maybe Gossip Girl. xoxo
Although I now like Gio SO much better than Henry, Betty seems to like Henry's more low key personality. Gio is so much fun, and he seems to "get" Betty, but Betty seems almost overwhelmed by him, especially when he gets romantic. He makes her get out of her comfort zone. Maybe, when she's really ready to move on...
I thought Gio had the most chemistry with Hilda, but clearly Gio is crazy about Betty.
What about Justin at the dance?? Was anyone surprised when he asked the girl to dance?
I liked that Daniel suggested that Claire ask Betty to do the article. I didn't see that coming. Though I sure did see it coming that Alexis would turn against Daniel and Claire and side with Willie. Not that Daniel didn't blow it. Willie IS good at her job, and she really had worked hard to be editor, but ooh so wicked and willing to ANYTHING it takes.

Very good episode. I was pleased.
Props to Gio for turning Betty down. It makes total sense that he didn't want to be the rebound guy, and Betty is obviously still in love with Henry.
No surprize that Gene Simmons wasn't Amanda's daddy. It was kind of funny, but her papa should be a better guy.

Team Gio all the way!
As much as she's liked Henry and they are "cute" together, Gio has been there. Aside from that, I think they provide more of a balance...I like that they can argue and have conflict but still like each other - which is more believable than cheesy Henry. Plus Gio is just a hottie - and so sweet! That line "I don't want to be the rebound guy. I want to be THE guy" was just so touching.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I prefer Betty with Henry. I find Gio really obnoxious, especially in this episode. They way he treated Betty - calling her Suarez, accusing her of stalking him - reminded me of the way an 8-year-old boy with a crush would behave. If the writers do decide to put Betty and Gio together, I hope Gio becomes less annoying.

I miss Mickey's blog. We've all seen the show so why does it have to be a literal recap of it rather than opinions on the show. The episode last night was great but this blog did not do it justice.

I liked the blog and I think Gina offered quite a few opinions.
I used to love Betty and Henry but now I am rooting for Gio all the way!

I believe TV Guide writers MUST give a detailed recap of the show. I don't think they have choice.
I would have liked to see more quotes from the show, though.
Especially when Marc and Amanda were comparing Henry and Gio! I don't remember the exact words, just that Marc had a pic of Henry's abs and saying all these funny things of why Gio was perfect for Betty.

Do you know who would be funny as Amanda's biological father? Henry Winkler. As himself. That would be hilarious! =)
There, I'm done with my armchair casting.
Great episode!

Very good episode. Much better than last week IMO. Appreciated absence of babies & talk of babies (except for a brief flashback).
Nice to have Amanda & Mark back - have missed their interaction in recent eps.

Okay, nobody's mentioned this, so maybe I'm dreaming, but maybe not...Last week, Henry and Betty decided to make their relationship work long distance. This week, the relationship has been over for 2 weeks! What did I miss? Were was the break up scene? I know that Betty realized she had lost Henry right after the baby was born; but still, why wasn't there a discussion, or at least Betty telling Hilda that she and Henry had decided it wouldn't work. I feel gyped.

I like Gio & Betty better than her & Henry (altho I really like C. Gorham), cause she & Gio are so different. I think he brings out her funny, playful, more carefree side. They have real chemistry. Betty & Henry are so serious and a little boring. If H. really loves her, he'll leave her alone (but that won't happen.) His baggage is too heavy.
To langhea: Gio was obviously joking around with Betty, with the "stalking" & the teasing. And he called her Juarez affectionately, not being mean. Somebody has to shake her outa her sadness.
