Inside Battlestar's "Astonishing" Midseason Finale

Brace yourselves, Galactica fans. Executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick are promising big things for the mid-season finale of the series' fourth and final year (airing Friday, June 13, at 10 pm/ET). Eick teases the cliff-hanger "definitely rivals the Season 2 'one year later' shock," but he's otherwise playing it coy.

What we know for sure is 1) ailing Laura Roslin is abducted by the Cylon rebels and, according to Moore, 2) suspected toaster Kara Thrace "is going to make an important discovery [and] all hell's going to break loose." Eick says he's drawn to this plot because "the struggles Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) faces on her own ship call into question the nature of who these people are."

For Moore, "the Adama-Roslin relationship [is paramount]. I really like how it's matured. It moves me." President Roslin herself, Mary McDonnell, tells us the midseason finale "is an astonishing piece of work that will be really gratifying for the fans. It's brilliantly done because it isn't the end and it doesn't give away the end, but it creates the beginning of the end, and that will be very, very powerful."

McDonnell promises that BSG enthusiasts will come away from the episode feeling "very jazzed," due in large part to its final moments. All she will say about the big cliff-hanger — one that fans will be left to ponder, discuss and debate until at least January 2009 — is that "it is a step we've never taken." Sounds frakkin' awesome. — G.J. Donnelly with additional reporting by Anna Dimond and Matt Mitovich

I've seen the episode, and all I have to say is, it's gonna be great. (And this article comes pretty damn close to giving the whole thing away! Better watch yourselves....)

I'm so frakking excited for tonight! But darn it if they aren't stretching out the final season by making us wait til January to see the rest of it!

I think they're promising a lot more than they can deliver.

No sense watching then if you are certain of a disappointment! I will let you know what happened!

I saw the episode Wednesday night at the BSG panel and in my opinion, if anything, they deliver even more than they promise.

I don't know I watched it on the website since they been streaming it all day at the top of the hour, and between the promo and the clips after the credits every single part of the episode was given away. It was alright I was just surprise they gave everything away, last scene was easy to guess from the promo

I don't know who does the promo for SciFi but they have a bad record of giving too much away in an upcoming episode. For BSG, however, I found the clips that they show after the credit to be often a problem so I try to look away. Somehow coming to websites like this to know stuff weeks/days in advance is okay but to know too much less than an hour in advance is bad, in some twisted logic in my head.

By the way, I thought this episode was solid

I am confused. Is Roslin going to be abducted AGAIN?

I am confused. Is Roslin going to be abducted AGAIN?

She was originally there voluntarily, and although they "jumped" with her aboard, I wouldn't say that they we officially holding Roslin against her will-so far-she then reneged on the deal....anyone disagree?

BEST FRAKKIN EPISODE EVER!!!!

I was literally on the edge of my couch several times tonight.

I spent the last few minutes trying to figure out where?

I cannot believe we have to wait until at least January for the end.

Who the FRAK is the last cylon!?!?!?

All I can say is wow - it was one of the best episodes in a great series. I feel like my head is going to explode. And January is too far away.

Not only was this one of the best episodes of the entire series, it was one of the best dramatic hours of TV ever. Amazing performances, great plot.
It was everything I hoped for and more!
If you haven't watched it, go ahead and do yourself the favor. Awesome!

It was a good episode, but I was very disappointed at the ending. It wasn't a surprise at all and was more of a let down then anything. The first half of this season has been just okay. I hope the 2nd half is a lot better then what we got the first half.
