Lost: Six Secrets of the Island Revealed!
Jeremy Davies by Mario Perez/ABC
It doesn't take a flash-forward to uncover Lost's secrets. Just a trip to Hawaii and a few prying interviews. Here, a sextet (in honor of the Oceanic Six) of spoilery insights. — Shawna Malcom
1) Others leader Ben (Michael Emerson) has been called many things — Master Manipulator, Bug-Eyed Bastard, Captain Bunny Killer — but an action hero? In the April 24 episode, Ben leads the resistance against the freighter fiends working for cranky billionaire Charles Widmore, while in his flash-forward adventure, he does battle in the Tunisian desert and spies on a funeral in Iraq. Emerson was as surprised as anyone by this unexpected turn of events, not to mention a little anxious. "Stunts, languages — all sorts of special skills were asked of me," he says. "I feel like I've done everything but the kitchen sink in this episode. God only knows what's next."
2) In one scene witnessed by TV Guide, Sawyer, Miles (Ken Leung) and a banged-up Claire, holding baby Aaron, make a ghastly discovery in the jungle: one dead body and an extra dismembered arm. Surprisingly, the con man turns all Big Brother on the single mum. "Since Charlie's died, I feel like no one's protecting Claire," Holloway explains. But can anyone really keep Claire from joining the island's body count? After all, Aaron's calling Kate "Mommy" in the future. De Ravin claims she hasn't received the dreaded phone call from producers. "Maybe just let the baby go first," she says. "Or maybe fall off the helicopter. But if that's the case, I'm not shooting that scene. Stunt double, please!"
3) Remember that watercolor painting an institutionalized Hurley was working on when Charlie appeared in the season premiere? Jorge Garcia painted it himself. He also decided what to paint — an Eskimo fishing outside an igloo. "I was like, 'Hope people think this means something,'" says the prankster. Mission accomplished: After the episode, fan sites buzzed with theories, including one he expected: "I hoped people might think it had something to do with the guys [in the Season 2 finale] speaking Portuguese in the snow."
4) TV Guide caught a scene shot for the May 1 episode in which Jack collapses, unconscious, on the beach. Expect Juliet to take charge and perform emergency surgery. "I get to go into Jack's guts!" says a gleeful Mitchell, who adds, "After reading this episode, I realized that Juliet really does truly love him." Even so, Jack's flash-forward revolves around Kate. We're sworn to secrecy but will let slip that fans of "Jate" are in for a long-awaited, happy turn of events.
5) Coming attractions: The return of ageless Other Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell). A trek to Jacob's cabin. In the future, Hurley imparting a chilling message from Charlie to Jack. Christian Shephard reaching out to both (!) of his children.
6) The producers' ambitions for the season finale were so epic, they had to ask ABC for an additional hour. (Part 1 airs May 15; the second and third hours will air May 29.) "All we can say is, at the end of May 15, viewers will be left wondering how the hell are — in two hours — the Oceanic 6 all going to be together and off the island?" executive producer Damon Lindelof says. But get off they will. And as a result, expect Lost to be a whole new ballgame — again — when it returns for Season 5.
Coming later this week: Jimmy Kimmel grills the Lost bosses.

OH. MY. GAWD.

I don't even know what to say!!! Except maybe LOST is going to go down in history as THE best show ever. Oh, and, there had better be some generous Emmy noms this year!!!

Well- I'm excited and can't wait until it returns, but "Best Show Ever"? Not close in my opinion, but to each their own. I do think it's high time the actors get some respect at the Emmy's though.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be some sort of hidden message (or poor proofreading) in this piece?
I noticed five instances where the pronoun "I" was left out of sentences. I figured once was a mistake, twice is a coincidence, and three is a clue for message board dorks to obsess over.
examples: 1.) "feel like I've done everything but the kitchen sink in this episode."
2.) "Since Charlie's died, feel like no one's protecting Claire," 3.) "I was like, 'hope people think this means something,'"
4.) "get to go into Jack's guts!"
5.) "After reading this episode, realized that Juliet really does truly love him."
I have no idea what it could mean, but I thought it was a little too much to be sloppy editing. What do you think?
And by the way, I am an English teacher!!!

apparently it wasn't a clue, because they've fixed almost all of the errors now...

I'm sure the writer's strike helped Lost. People were so thrilled to actually see one of the series return, that new viewers tuned in. It also helps that all the past episodes are available and they do recaps a lot. However, I still know a bunch of people who have tuned out, thinking it's too convoluted. Myself, I love the intrigue.......but unless they tie up a lot of loose ends, I expect my husband won't watch it with me next year.

"Lost" is indeed my favorite TV drama. I'm definitely hooked. But, I swear, you have to have a flow chart to keep the characters and plot twists straight!!

I don't know what to say after reading this. But this is going to be so good. And I can't waite for it. I do agree that this show is "the best show on earth" and it better have some emmy noms, especially Michael Emerson. However I feel that isn't going to happen.

There better be some good Sawyer and Kate moments by the end of the season! I'm excited for some Jack and Juliet scenes in episode 10.

I definitely agree that if they do things right, LOST has a shot at going down in history as one of the all time greatest shows ever.
This season has been the best so far, with upcoming episodes sounding like they have the potential to be excellent. I'm definitely optimistic.

I hope Clair lives. It will be nice that she and Jack find out the truth; maybe that is why Jack refuses to go home with Kate (Aaron his nephew). Maybe Clair goes crazy off the island, and only stays sane back on the island. When Jack talked to Kate at the airport, he said every weekend he flies across the ocean hoping to crash again on the island, so Jack and Kate must not have any ability to get back to the island; so they must not be in contact with Ben any longer. Will we finally find out who is in that coffin? Or the statue foot with an odd number of toes?
Maybe Charles Widmore is holding Clair hostage or something. So she is not one of the Oceanic Six, but she is still alive. Jack, Kate, and Hugo are all telling this lie that only six of them survived the plane crash, so there is probably still someone alive on the island; or why keep the secret that the island exists.
Also, does Desmond and Penny ever get back together? Does Juliet get off the island? Does Juliet end up dead? Does Ben Keep Juliet for himself? Sawyer and Clair ending up together on the island?
I still would like to understand why the plane stewardess went and stayed with The Others so willingly. Are the “Original Inhabitants” from the island refugees from the Black Rock?
We never did find out what those magic numbers meant from season one. Hugo won the lottery with those numbers, but what did they mean? If the island will not let anyone kill themselves, then Hugo could not be in that coffin, and he had family that would hopefully show up at his funeral.
Ben says he does not know what the mist is, but he knows Jacob? How is that possible? How did John hear Jacob, but Ben did not? What is the connection between Jacob and Hugo? In the past it seemed the mist monster was responsible for the visions, but then what is the connection between the mist monster and Jacob?
Alex was headed toward The Other’s secret hideout on the island, there is this large group of Others on the island somewhere, and even without the submarine, Ben gets on and off the island. And even though we only focus on the small group of survivors, there are more that just the few that are alive, and why would Charles Widmore want to kill off everyone on the beach (although maybe Widmore is behind The Dharma Group - someone financed that large project)
Charles + Charlie = More Questions?

Sawyer looking out for Claire? LOVE it!
Have always adored the way he treats her. He's normally a no holds barred jackass to everyone. But he's always treated Claire sweetly. I was hoping after Charlie died, that Claire could get some Sawyer lovin (since Kates on the mainland with Jack it's only fair), though it doesn't have to be sexual - Big Brother Sawyer is mucho awesome.
