Episode Recap: "Life Is Short"
Near the end of last night’s episode, Brooke turned to Lucas and asked him, "Do you ever want to go back?...Would you do it differently?" She was talking about going back to when they were younger and doing things differently, but this could apply to so many of the stories that were referenced in last night’s episode.
For example, would Lucas handle his relationship to Lindsey differently? Maybe not, because his answer to Brooke was that we all need to go through these difficult things in order to get to the places we want to be in life. So then I guess in his mind, his pathetic attempts to get back together with Lindsey are all part of them eventually getting back on the road to wedded bliss? He needs to wake up from this dream. Lindsey leaving behind her key to his house, after he insisted she keep it, was a pretty clear sign. You need to let this go, Luke. Now.
Similarly, Peyton needs to let Lucas go and move on with her life. Haley and Skills were advising her to do this, and it would be a good thing if she listened to them. Because now she’s looking pathetic too, as Skills painted a picture of her reduced to cyber-stalking Lucas and seeing if he updated his online profile from engaged back to single. She’s just waiting around for Lucas to want her again, and she deserves better than that. I’m a Lucas-Peyton fan, but the two of them are just too mopey right now. If they do eventually find their way back to one another, it should be because of something exciting – not because they were both bored and neither of them had anything better to do.
Mouth and Millicent are hardly at a boring stage of their budding relationship, but if given the opportunity, would Mouth rethink his idea of having his roommates clean up their apartment for Millicent? Probably, because the guys were happier with their messy decor. And Millie felt like she was intruding, which was the last thing she wanted to do since she was moving into their turf. Her solution of bringing home beer and pizza and playing with water guns like one of the guys was a good approach to take, and she and Mouth seem to get sweeter each week, without getting nauseating.
Skills was regretting the beer he had before Lucas’ wedding ceremony, and obviously he would love to change how he handled his babysitting duties that day. This was an important incident well worth revisiting. It was good to see that Skills had some feelings of guilt, because how could he not? I think anybody would in his situation. And he didn’t talk to Nathan and Haley, instead he was reading things into their behavior that just weren’t true – this felt very realistic. As it turned out, Nathan and Haley have been so frazzled since the kidnapping incident that they’re afraid to leave Jamie with anybody – not just Skills. But now that they all talked about it, Skills can hang out with Jamie again – and play Wii, because Skills is such a great guy who knew exactly what gift his little buddy wanted (not a boring book like Uncle Lucas gave him).
Speaking of good gifts, anonymous giver Dan (who wasn’t allowed to attend the party) scored big with the birthday boy by giving him Nathan’s first basketball jersey. Dan is probably the poster boy for wanting to go back and change things. (Though he didn’t change a thing about his interaction with Deb – he insulted her and referenced her pill-popping days, and she threw him out...it was just like old times!) I do believe that if Dan could go back in time, he wouldn’t kill Keith. Maybe he would go back even further in time, and not be such a jerk of a father. He was growing quite nostalgic with Nathan at the beach house, referencing the good times the family had there long ago. Of course, his medical-condition death sentence may be prompting some of this regret. Apparently, Dan’s heart condition has progressed, and unless he gets a heart transplant, he has only six months to live. Are they really going to kill him off the show? Because he’s almost been killed off several times, and yet he keeps bouncing back. Maybe he will get a transplant, because I really can’t picture this show without him. (Even when he wasn’t in all of the first twelve episodes this season, his presence was still felt.)
Nevertheless, Dan’s attempts to reach out to Nathan by leaving him the beach house in his will and telling him about the developments of his HCM didn’t seem to be working. Dan’s "I have a bad heart" declaration was met with Nathan’s "You’re just realizing that, Dad?" Ouch, but well said. Nathan turned and walked out on Dan’s shocking news. Yet, he did call him Dad for the first time in awhile – he had been calling him Dan most of this season. So, perhaps that shows the beginning of a thaw in this relationship?
Is Brooke regretting her new maternal relationship with baby Angie? I don’t think so, though it is proving to be much harder than she thought. She had me worried with her comment, "Aren’t I so Angelina?," seeming to equate having a baby as a Hollywood trend she wished to copy. But she handled Angie spitting up on her sketches rather well. And she reached out for help when she needed it. That help involved leaning on Lucas – leaning quite literally in those closing scenes, as Brooke, Lucas and baby Angie all snuggled under a blanket on the couch.
Finally, did Deb regret inviting Bucko the creepy clown to Jamie’s birthday party? I don’t think so – I think she rather enjoyed his company, especially her alone time with him. Deb hasn’t changed one bit, and I guess now we know what she’s been up to these past five years – she’s been clowning around. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) But I bet Haley would have preferred that this circus-themed guest didn’t show up, as her longstanding fear of clowns has only intensified I’m sure.

First of all I love your episode recap Jennifer. Ok can you tell me why every episode is getting worse and worse every week? I can't believe how Lucas is the new Dawson. Unbelievable! He's still pining after Lindsey. He has a new BFF : brooke yeah brooke. They had to share like three scenes since the beginning of the season but then out of the blue they are BFF. I forgot he's playing daddy with angie. Is the same guy who wrote two books about Peyton Sawyer? I think he forgot he was madly in love with Peyton. Speaking about Peyton she doesn't have any scenes with Lucas anymore. She has a new BFF too : Skillz who is a really good guy by the way. How he can be friends with Lucas? This show should really end like right now. This is getting boring and boring.

Come on, Lucas Scott is the most ridiculous character in the entire TV history. He's chasing the girl who left him at the altar in front of all of his friends and family but he can't forgive Peyton who 'dared' to say someday to him. He used to be my favorite character but now I don't know that guy anymore. The writers should kill him. Seriously. Will Lucas and Peyton ever be together again? I don't know but Peyton deserves a man better than Lucas Scott.

First off - I dont agree with the other comments ... I still like Lucas and sure he is still wanting to be with lindsey but it just adds drama to the show.
I thought this episode was great! I dont think Dan is going to die... He probly will get a heart transplant. Deb IS still the same...
I thought that Skills was very generous to get jamie a Wii ... They are expensive and how he gave the wii to jamie was cute. I'm glad that he is hanging out with jamie again.
Mouth and Millicent are so cute and they seem to get cuter each week! Now I am a Brook/Lucas fan so I loved the ending of the episode. I dont think that anything will happen between them but it was still cute when Lucas was helping her with baby angie and then they all three cuddled up and went to sleep. I do like them but maybe they are better as friends.. oh well.........
I dont even know what to think about next week from the previews. Maybe A fight? who knows ... apparently dan is buyin a gravestone though and talks to lucas (or probly fights...)

While I think Brooke is too good for Lucas, they are the best relationship right now. They really are cute together. I have always been a Lucas/Peyton fan, but right now, just feeling kinda "ehh" about them. Maybe they need to bring in some new blood, let Peyton start dating. It might cause her to figure out whether she is in love with Lucas or the idea of Lucas, and it might make him rethink chasing after Lindsay.
One nitpick: Lindsay comes to pack up the rest of her things, then opens 2 drawers, takes out about 4 things and is done?? Did she come back after the non-wedding and while Lucas was with his mom to get most of her stuff? Because you would think someone who had been living there for a while would have at least some furniture, linens, pictures, not to mention a lot of clothes! And if all she left were those few items, why wouldn't she just ask Haley to get them and send them to her. Never mind, obviously because the writers needed a reason to get her over to Lucas's house but didn't want to get bogged down in reality!

I do not buy the BL "friendship" for a second. That was totally out of no where.
The only thing I liked about this ep was the opening scene with Brooke, Peyton, and the baby. Those two trying to play mommies was hilarious.
I'm seriously ready to call it quits with Lucas and Peyton. They've been ruined I'm afraid.

Great Recap! My thoughts exactly. I lvoed how they had a little bit of everybody in the show. I totally agree that Peyton is better than to just wait around. The writers have pretty much destroyed any respect I had for Lucas. His recycled lines of who the "one" is gets old. Again, I love the actor, but they have ruined Dan for me. I am sorry but I do not feel sorry for him, and him looking pitful looking at old pics of him and Nathan is not going to soften my heart towards him. At least he had a chance with his son..Keith never got a chance to be with his daughter. Infact, I don't think he even knew Karen was pregnant before he died. I know it's just a show, but it will make me mad if Lucas, Nathan, or anyone "forgives" Dan. And wow, how professional is Sophia (Brooke). In real life, her and Chad Michael Murray fell in love, got married, only to divorce with rumors of him cheating on her. I don't know how she can be so professional and still continue to work with him, and esepcially the scenes last night, with her and Lucas and baby Angie looking like the perfect little family and talking about the past and if they could change it would they. I know they are talking in character but it's interesting to watch due to their "real lives"
Okay off my little soap box, but last night was a good show which makes me happy that it has renewed for another season..yay!
One last thing, where are Haley's parents???? There was no mention of them at all. Does Jamie even know he has another set of grandparents???
Give skills a storyline. Maybe Peyton and Skills can get together?? That would show Lucas!! ">

After rewatching seasons 1-4, I have to see Lucas is the least changed out of all characters. He's flaky when it comes to his devotion. I'm a Leyton fan, but the moping is getting old. They should bring Jake back to show Peyton she could be appreciated by someone else. I don't even watch for Lucas arc anymore. Naley and the rest of the bunch are much more interesting.

Hmmm...okay, I hated the clown thing, just because I thought it was a ridiculous subplot (if you could even call it that). It was just...pointless, maybe to give Deb some more screen time?
GabySolis up there had an interesting point...Lucas is pining and stalking the woman who left him at the altar, but didn't forgive Peyton's "someday"? You know what, at this point, he and Peyton don't even have to BE together (though I want them to be someday), but give them someone else to focus on, sheesh.
And the Brucas thing? WAY too quick...they've had what, two or three "moments" this whole season and now they're sleeping together on the couch? I hope the writers aren't foreshadowing a Brucas reunion...that would just be ridiculous and I may have to stop watching. Been there, done that...twice.

I loved this episode. Millicent starting a watergun fight was a nice way to show Mouth that shes not glass and doesn't need to be protected from the mess guys make.
Lucas needs to move on and forget about Lindsey, she wasnt even that cute anyway.
Brooke and Peyton trying to make Angie stop crying was the funniest thing all night (next to when Haley opens the door and the clown was there...lol). But I have a question, shouldn't Peyton have some sorta knowledge on how to make a baby stop crying?? I mean didn't she use to take care of Jenny for Jake?
People who think that something will happen between Brooke and Lucas because of the closing sceen need to stop. The only other person who could help Brooke or atleast give advise is Haley and she's kinda busy with her own life and marriage. Lucas is right there with nothing to do apart from crying over Lindsey, give him something to do and make him put to use all that know-how he has from taking care of a much younger baby sister.
I agree that the writers need to let Peyton start dating...think someone said this already, but bring back Jake. That would really shake things up a bit.
Can't wait for next week show.

good recap, thanks.can someone please answer my question.is lucas still in love with peyton???cause i really dont know anymore and im so confused.please just tell me what u all think.and whether or not he his an idiot, because even he doesnt love her anymore,he shouldnt be pining so much about lindsay cause he even didnt mean to propose to her!!!and when u were madly in love with someone(which he was with peyton)how can u forget everything about it so easily and pretend u never had something special with that person and treat her like an ordinary person?!seriously im getteing so sick of this, and im losing hope for these two to get back together, but im really trying to not give up on them, cause i really want them back together.but i agree it dosent have to be like this, like because lucas cant have lindsy back,he have to go back to peyton and peyton deserves so much better than this and better than him!and i really hate lucas this season, and its getteing worse and worse every week!he is getteing on everyone's nerve!and brook, peyton, lucas love triangle got too old,i prefer him with lindsay rathar than him with brook, cause in this way at least we have peytons and brooks graet freindship.and seriously lucas's behavior dosent make any sense!

Jennifer great recap as usual.
Now my pet peves. Writers please stop with this Peyton/Lucas sniveling. I really dislike the way Lucas is acting and Peyton needs to get a life.
Brooke is growing up and changing and realizes she doesn't need her mother's approval to be a good person. Hooray for her.
What I would like to see happen is for Skills and Peyton to hook up. Can you imagine Lucas's reaction? Skills and Peyton both need new storylines and they could create a fantastic one together.
