Episode Recap: "Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace"
Is it safe to say that One Tree Hill came back with a one-two punch? Followed by three, four, even five punches. How much fun was that opening scene?! Lucas was getting his frustrations out on Dan, who had no trouble defending himself. Nathan rushed to his brother’s aid, but Dan pushed them both off with relative ease. It must have felt like just another day in the prison yard for Dan. Then little Jamie ran out to comfort Grandpa, which was quite sweet. He’s old enough to know to be thankful to Dan for saving him, and he expressed his gratitude. It looked like he was the only one who did, as the rest of the Scotts are all still too mad at Dan to even talk to him, let alone thank him for rescuing Jamie. No one said coming home was going to be easy, Dan.
After that action-packed opening, it turned out to be a very talkative episode, in which each of the main characters were in need of someone to lend them an ear. Nathan and Haley have been going to couples counseling, and happily it seems to be working. Their therapist with a soothing British accent gave them good advice about recapturing who they once were, as well as allowing themselves to be young again. By the end, they were complimenting each other and sharing the same bed once again (and not just for sleeping). They were also contemplating getting back to basketball and music at their therapist's urging, and maybe this will help them be more fulfilled and not so resentful of one another. So it seems like Nathan and Haley are going to be OK, which is really good, because when these two are out of whack it’s like the whole One Tree Hill universe is out of alignment.
Lucas didn’t have a real therapist, but he had his own pseudo-therapist with a lovely accent to give him advice: Andy. Apparently Lucas has been at sea with Karen, Andy and Lily for the past four weeks after the wedding. Well, the non-wedding. Being left at the altar has to be hard to get over, and obviously it will take time. But it doesn’t seem like Lucas wants to move forward exactly. Instead, he wants to go back – back to before all the mess happened, when he was still blissful with Lindsey. So, he wants to get her back. I was afraid this was going to happen. They’re not going to let this triangle die anytime soon, are they? Lucas actually went to see Lindsey, who, not surprisingly, was none too pleased to see him. Then he gave her the ultimatum (what is it with this guy and ultimatums?) "I’ll publish the book if you edit it." That’s cruel to subject her to that – to working with him and working on that book about Peyton’s comet. He’s not respecting Lindsey’s wishes, and his not being able to take no for an answer is getting a little troubling.
Meanwhile, Peyton still wants Lucas of course. But more than that, she wants him to be happy, so she’s still trying to muster the "patience, grace and strength" she needs to let him go. She let him go weeks ago, but it sounds like it’s still a daily struggle for her to not go after him. She told all of this to Max – record-store owner Max, aka creator Mark Schwahn’s on-screen alter ego. It was good seeing him again, as he always gives Peyton such sage advice in a laid-back manner. I'm sure it was good for her to hear that he believes in her music label. But now that he’s selling the record store, I don’t know when we’ll get to see him again.
We didn’t get to see Victoria tonight, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have an impact on things. The info she gave the woman handling Brooke’s adoption evaluation was enough to sabotage her daughter. The woman brought up the fact that Brooke ran her senior class presidency campaign on partying – does stuff you do in high school (stuff that doesn’t cross criminal lines) really haunt you for that long? That seemed a little ridiculous. But I can see Victoria’s comment that her daughter would make a "terrible candidate" as indeed bearing much weight. Yet I think Brooke’s heartfelt plea to the woman as she exited may have helped her case. Brooke does seem to be a bit young to be pursuing adoption, but she also seems to really want this, and she may be ready for it.
Similarly, Dan may be ready to be a grandfather. A loving grandfather, and not a controlling one. His scenes with Jamie are adorable, and he seems to truly enjoy talking to the kid. He has to do it secretly because Nathan and Haley aren’t about to allow him near Jamie, but I don’t think he’s using his grandson. He’s Dan, so I’m sure he has some malicious plans up his sleeve, but none that involve Jamie...or so I hope. And when he’s not talking to Jamie, he’s trying to pay his parole officer to listen to him, as he’s so starved for company.
In the end, it appears that the talking cure worked. After vocalizing what was on their minds, all the characters seemed to be in a place where they’re OK. For now. But this is Tree Hill, where more drama is always just around the corner.

I am so glad that One Tree Hill has returned with new episodes. I thought this episode was pretty good.
I'm glad that Haley and Nathan are back on the right track and although I love that Haley wants to be a good mother, I think she puts too much focus on Jamie, I think that's a mistake that a lot of mother's make, to make a child's life your whole life. And they have a hard time when their child leaves home. I'm also glad that they have a good competent psychiatrist and I hope that Nathan and Haley will pursue their own respective dreams from now on.
Lucas and Peyton's relationship is practically nonexistent at this point and I'm getting frustrated with Lucas. It's to the point that I want to reach through the screen and strangle him because of his incessant whining about Lindsey. He acts like their relationship was perfect but there were many times since Peyton's return where he has faltered. He is not respecting her wishes and he clearly didn't think about anything about what she said to him in the month that has passed. He is prolonging her pain by giving her this new ultimatum. And if I was Lindsey I would tell him where to shove it.
I love that Peyton is being patient and gracious, Lucas should be more like that at this time with Lindsey. I'm glad that she got to talk to someone like Max to remind of what is important to her and of who she is as a person. I'm starting to want Peyton to move on to someone new. Would Lucas feel the same or totally different if it were Peyton in a serious relationship? I wouldn't mind for a little visit from Jake or hell, even Pete at this point. I also want Peyton to sign some more artists, seems like business is kind of slow.
Last but not least, Brooke. I feel for Brooke, I think she will make a great mother and I think that the adoption woman had clearly already made up her mind about Brooke before she even got there. I think Brooke should just have her own child, then there would be no issue.
I wrote way too much but I really enjoyed this episode, especially the soothing music and the quote at the end said by our two main couples, that gives me hope for a Leyton reconciliation.

I have very mixed emotions about this episode. It was ok, but Lucas' attitude toward Lindsey and Peyton is almost enough to make me HATE this episode. Where are the writers going with this. The build up from 501-508 showed a conflicted Lucas who still had feelings for Peyton, and then in 512 we learn his book is filled with Peyton metaphors. But the Lucas in 513 doesn't give a damn about Peyton, and it's so sad to see her still hanging on to him. I'm at the point now where I want Peyton to move on fully and I want Lucas to wake up one day and realized what he's done. I felt season five was going to be all about LP finding their way back. Now maybe that has been postponed since there is going to be a season six, but it just sucks how the character of Lucas has been compomised because of it.
On a more positive note I did like the NH storyline tonight and I thought the coda with the voice over by the main 5 was a nice change. The LP flashback to first moment they locked eyes saved this episode for me. There was just way too much talking and too many one character scenes for my liking.

I thought this episode was OK. I thought the Lucas and Peyton scenes were pretty boring, but the Naley scenes were really good. Also, I think Brooke's storyline is not very good right now. I mean, adoptive mother at 22? I can't wait till next week...it looks like lots of Nathan, Haley, and Jamie!

this episode was pretty slow..it kinda stinks we had to wait for so long and then they come back with this. but i guess they needed an episode like this for everything to get resolved.
Im glad Haley and Nathan are good again (and i love their counselor's amazing accent lol)
I think Brooke would make a great mom, but she is a little young, and she is so busy. She would just have trouble balancing her career and a child.
Alright I've been a Leyton fan for the longest time, but I wish they would bring someone back for Peyton, like Jake. Cause as much as i'd like to see them together, at this point it just doesn't seem like its gonna happen so i am confused because in the past few episodes there have been signs of a Leyton reunion (the kiss at tric, the flashback to the proposal, the second book he wrote about how much he loves her?)
And if Luke really wants to marry someone, that boy has got to stop giving out ultimatums.

Dan is so up to something. I don't like it one bit him hanging around Jaime secretly. Also, have Haley and Nathan not talked to Jaime about not seeing his Grandfather or at the least not keeping secrets from them. It just seems strange especially since the last time he ignored their warnings he was kidnapped.

Anyone else feel Luke isn't actually dealing with a damn thing but trying to go back to his pre-Peyton life in hopes of forgetting her. Lindsey was right to leave him. He has to deal with Peyton before he can commit to Lindsey. Much like Karen had to get closure with Keith before the had the room to really love Andy like he loved her.
Andy's much more like Lindsey than he's like Luke. Only I think Luke is a wuss. Man up and figure out where your life is at and where you want it to go. You can live and dwell in the past. Luke, you can be happy without women...just try. And STOP with the ultimatums. They're getting old.
I loved seeing Max being all brotherly to Peyton. She needs someone right now. And she's totally the adult in the Lucas-Lindsey-Peyton triangle...which I had hoped was played out. But if Lucas is going to be so...Lucas, I don't want him with either woman.
Poor, poor Brooke and her horrible mother...if you can call her that. Bitter Victoria.
Is it bad I want to see Chase again? Or Bevin. I miss them.
And I know Dan has to have an agenda cause he's Dan...but Jaime better not be a ploy. I just have a bad feeling.

I enjoyed the episode. My main issue is with the bands at the end. They named the episode after the latest Foo Fighters album, have their album cover on Peyton's office wall and close out w/ their song. Yet, they don't get a shout out at the end of the show. Personally, I thought that stank. But, I'm a huge Foo Fighters fan.
On to other stuff. The reason Brooke wants to adopt instead of having her own child was explained quite well by Brooke herself. She knows that there are already way too many kids in the world that feel worthless and unloved like she did growing up. So, she wants to adopt one of those kids to make a difference in their lives. Makes perfect sense to me. More people should want to adopt. I just think it's sad that the agencies make it so hard for good people to get children when any crackwhore on the street can have babies all day long.
I'm with everyone else, Lucas needs to get over himself. He's all about the women in his life doing what he wants when he wants. Damn what they want. Please bring back Jake for Peyton. From what I understand Bryan Greenberg should be available since it doesn't look like October Road will be renewed

RENTheadMandy: The preview mostly showed Nathan in a gym holding a basketball, thinking back to his glory days. Here's the TV GUIDE listing for the next episode: Lucas and Peyton finally talk about his unsuccessful nuptials, while Mouth and Millicent take a new step forward. Meanwhile, Haley and Nathan both make decisions about their careers; and Brooke gets an important phone call.

This would be great! Jake is so much better for Peyton than Lucas.
Lucas is really getting on my last nerve. I am so uninterested in him lately.
I hope Nathan and Haley are back on track! And I too am worried about what Dan is up to, but he is the character I love to hate and I am so glad he is back. I just hope we see more of Karen!

I enjoyed this past week's episode. Thought it was a perfect welcome back show. It wasn't high drama or filled with intensity. It was about these 5 characters that we've come to care about for 5 seasons. How they have gotten to the point they're at now and what the future holds for them.
I loved the Naley scenes. As much as I love Haley, I've been frustrated by her actions so far this season. Clearly, the girl had some issues she needed help dealing with and for a character like Haley I imagine asking for help would only take place after a dire situation.
I actually like the Brooke wants to adopt storyline. Clearly Brooke is not the same person she was in high school and by evidence of how she cares for Jamie she would be a great mother. I like that we get to see her come up against hurdles as it will only strengthen or make her question her reasons for adoption. Besides, she's not alone. She's got Naley, Lucas, Peyton, Mouth...
If I was unsure that Lucas was in denial of his feelings for Peyton this past episode solidified it for me. He clearly doesn't want to even consider the possibility that the life he was planning with Lindsey was not truly what he wanted. That somehow he was living out the life Peyton "turned down" with Lindsey. Lucas' final lines to Lindsey about her one day realizing they are meant to be and that she'll come back to him made me what to scream "Peyton already did that you big ninny. She came back!" But hopefully his speech will come back to bite him when he realizes that what he claims to want from Lindsey is exactly what Peyton wants from him.
I thought it was fitting for Mark to reappear in this episode. This was their first one back after the strike and after celebrating 100 eps.

I really hope that the writers, will consider a love scene for Lucas and Peyton, they belong together, and watching it now is just not something to look forward to anymore, because it's like Lucas has no love left inside him for Peyton, and it just breaks my heart to not see them together.
Lindsey is just not Scott material, and although I think she is a sweet girl, she is not the one for Lucas, and I just lose interest in watching knowing that Lucas is chasing after Lindsey.
