Episode Recap: "For Tonight You're Only Here to Know"

First rule of The Breakfast Club: Any time characters are trapped together in a library, they must argue, bond and eventually depart with a deeper understanding of one another.

I’ll admit that when I first heard the premise of this week’s episode, I was afraid it was going to come off as a little too...contrived. So I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. It was both enjoyable and insightful – a lot of questions we’ve had about Lindsey all season were answered, such as how she and Haley became so close. It turns out that Haley was also initially skeptical towards Lindsey and still rooting for Peyton (or Brooke!), but then Linz explained how concerned she was with getting the school shooting scenes of Lucas’ book just right, in order to honor Peyton, Keith and Jimmy. From then on, she and Haley were fast friends. As for Lindsey and Lucas? We learned that Lucas came along during a particularly difficult time in Lindsey’s life, when she was losing her father to a type of cancer that got him so sick he no longer recognized her. That was a really emotional scene when Lindsey blew up and explained things in detail. It sounded like she and her dad were very close, and I’m sure Lucas was there for her, for support. So, now we know.

Not only did this episode help fill in the gaps regarding history we didn’t know, but it brought up some moments from One Tree Hill’s past that we longtime fans are familiar with. I have to compliment how this show doesn’t rewrite its history and acknowledges some of its odder facts. I’m talking about how while defending her mom, Brooke referenced the fact that she, Peyton and Haley were all pretty much motherless in high school. (Yes, Peyton’s mom was dead, but the reasons the other two mothers weren’t around always stretched believability.) Then there were the sad moments that recalled Keith, Jimmy and that fateful day (one of the series’ all-time standout episodes). And finally, there was a face from the past I never thought we’d see again: Tim! I always wondered why his part got smaller as the years went by – I thought he’d at least show up at the graduation party last season. Like seeing an old friend, it was good catching up with this guy who’s now a pizza-delivery man and a father (to a little boy named Nathan! Hero worship much?). And getting back to The Breakfast Club, Tim totally reminded me of Ally Sheedy’s character when it turned out he knew how to get them out of the library all along: Ally showed up for detention all day because she had nothing better to do; Tim hung out in the library all night because he missed his old friends who had stopped staying in touch with him.

Tim had always provided comic relief on this show, but he wasn’t alone in that department tonight. There were a lot of genuinely funny moments, such as Lindsey trying to throw the chair through the window but falling backwards instead; Mia reading on the Internet about how "she looks like she smells like feet" (those nasty bloggers!); and the cannibalism conversation (who knew talk of cannibalism could provide so much tension relief?). Speaking of tension, there were some pretty intense arguments, mostly between Peyton and Lindsey of course. But their nasty name calling had me cracking up, especially the references to Lindsey’s "man face" and "fat ass"; and "bulimic bitch" Peyton and her "bony butt." Watch the claws, ladies!

Actually, things did go a bit too far when they were playing Mia’s make-up-the-lyrics game, and Peyton talked about Lindsey’s rich daddy, not knowing that he had been ill and passed away. Peyton also used the info Brooke shared with her about the engagement ring being the same one that was intended for her to further hurt Lindsey. I had always wondered if it had been Keith’s ring for Karen, so at least Peyton told Lindsey that in the end, to make her feel better. It’s not like these two kissed and made up (that would have been unrealistic), but at least they got to a place where they’re no longer hating each other. And I guess the only way to do that was to have them somehow trapped together in a place where they could hash everything out. This library lockdown also led to an unusual montage where Mia started playing her guitar and then each character sang a bit – a very different, creative scene which I think worked well.

In the end, I can’t say I’m ready to jump onboard the Lucas-Lindsey marriage train yet, but I don’t hate Lindsey anymore. I feel like I know her character better, as well as Mia’s character (who’s pretty amusing and laid back). As for the boys, they had the night off for the most part. There was an adorable scene where Jamie copied every move Quentin made while taping his arm, and then Jamie got his own mini Ravens jersey. There was a scary slow-motion shot of the team walking to their game. Did they win or lose? Did we even find out – I can’t remember. Well, as Mouth would say, the outcome isn’t what’s most important. What is important is that Carrie gave her two weeks notice, just as Nathan was about to confess things to Haley. He did get to confess his kiss with her to Lucas, and it sounds like he’s still planning on coming clean with Haley. But that’s for next week. That...and Dan’s parole hearing!

I never hated Lindsey...but I can't bring myself to like her. A lot of it has to do with what we saw at the beginning...a lot of my absolute disdain for Haley's behavior. And then Brooke. I mean I understand, but it's not easy for Peyton. And no one wants to hear her side.

I like Lindsey more as a character now, and I like her with Lucas. But I can't like them together when they just don't fit. But I like her enough not to let her heart get broken.

Yeah, They won. They showed the score board at the end.

Anywho. Peyton won as far as I'm concerned. She gave in in the end and told Lindsey she lied about the ring being hers.

She could bring that up anytime but I wouldn't want to win that way and I guess neither would Peyton. But in the future that could be a knock out in the fight against Lindsey.

Great episode...and being a Kate Voegele fan I love love love hearing her songs. Cause they are good. If you haven't already I suggest getting her CD. PLUS SHE'S A PRETTY GOOD ACTRESS AS WELL

Favorite line
Nathan: You kissed Peyton didn't you
Luc: I know you want to call me a dick
Nathan: I kissed Carrie
Luc: You're a dick!

::It was quick and adorable at the same time ::

Yes! They won! The final scene showing the standings of all the high schools in the league - Tree Hill was 1-0.

I do like Lindsey, but I still think Peyton and Lucas should be together. Which I think they will. We just, as usual, have to go through all this drama to get there.

This season has been good. First, Brooke hanging out with Lindsey and looking at that ring like it actually means Lucas wants to marry her is ridiculous. First, Brooke better than anyone knows the bond between Peyton and Lucas and knows good and well that this engagement is Lucas' way to getting over Peyton. For god's sake it is the same ring he was going to use to propose to Peyton with. Regardless of the Karen/Keith connection one "proposal" per ring buddy. Second, Peyton is your best friend and you know how hurt she was "losing" Lucas to Lindsey should she be subjected to losing/sharing her friends as well. Brooke could have simply said, "I think us hanging out would make Peyton uncomfortable and therefore it is not the right time". I understand that Haley and Lindsey are friends and Lindsey seems like a nice person but is it possible instead of judging Peyton and making these isolated comments about her moving on that she have a conversation with her friend about the whole situation so that it is clear that her friendship with Lindsey is just that and not her choosing LIndsey over Peyton which is how it seems. Lastly, I felt sorry about Lindsey father's and it was a good scene but the whole Peyton being the non noble one is a far cry. First, Lindsey pushes herself onto Peyton and when Lindsey over hears a private conversation between Peyton and Haley about Peyton not liking her, which is completely understanable to me, Lindsey starts attacking her and calls her a bitch every time she sees her and to all her friends. Appreciate Peyton being the bigger person at the end. But I think Lucas needs to be the bigger person and call things off with Lindsey and explore his very real feelings about Peyton and if saint Haley was any type of friend that would be the advise she would give all involved and oppose to sitting back and judging everyone. Oh, Jamie is adorable and the weird walking scene was great because of Jamie's otufit. Good to see Tim.

It was nice that they gave us a bit of background but still I didn't care much for Lindsey's story. As for her father, big deal. I may be heartless but heck, it seems like every OTHer has experienced some terrible tragedy or two (or three, or four). I still couldn't care less about Lindsey nor douchebag (sorry, Lucas) & Lindsey - I love the old school characters which is why I appreciate them bringing in Tim.

Good episode but I think that they are still going to get Lucas and Peyton together at the end and that just sucks.

How could anyone not like Lindsey? She just smokes Peyton in every way possible.

Dan's back and here is my theory. Carrie gave her 2 weeks because her and Dan are planning something for when he makes parole. Probably something that involves Jamie. Then in the end Dan gets killed and Carrie goes to jail.

Tonight was a good show. I liked the fact that we got to learn a little about lindsey (and what a emotional scene!) and I loved loved that Tim was back! I also liked the little comment Mia made about Lucas sleeping with Brooke then Peyton then Lindsey and asking Haley are you sure they never slept together cuz little Jamie looks like Lucas..but can't forget that Nathan also slept with all these ladies(except for lindsey.) and call me a prune but I was very surprised what can be said on tv now. Lucas and Nathan saying your a dick. It was funny but surprising, but like I said I guess I'm a prune.
Not much of the guys tonight, but I have to say how adorable little Jamie is, and Quinton is growing on me.
I still do not like the fact that Nathan didn't tell Haley about Carrie kissing him. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of her.
Overall a good show tonight, but I kinda have to say that seeing Tim again made the show tonight.

I loved that walking scene with Jamie!!It was just too cute. Anyway, when Tim turned out to be the pizza guy I was happy. Second he was walking down the hallway I was like Oh my god it's what's his name cause I went blank for a sec. It was funny when Tim thought Brooke was running to hug him. Great to know Tim has somewhat of a life...and a son named Nathan...lol. Would love a future storyline involving him & other old school characters. I also thought that montage with all of them singing Mia's song was well done..Speaking of Mia, wow did she loosen up finally!! She is actually pretty funny and kept some kind of normal conversation going even if it was about cannibalism at one point. At least Carrie quit, cause crazy girl was getting on my nerves. Nathan should still tell Haley tho. As far as next week goes, oh oh...I really don't see how Dan can end up out on probation after only serving 4 years or whatever in prison....But seeing him holding that pic of Jamie tho...oh oh!! Can't wait to see what goes down!!

First, I loved my Tim time!! Never realized how much he was missed ;) How great was it that he named his son Nathan, too funny!

I am a big Haley fan but she is totally letting me down this season! Her self righteous attitude and lack of loyalty towards Peyton has to stop! I love ya Hales but you need a reality check! I understand she is good friends with Lindsey but how about a little compassion for your other friend Peyton?

Good rittens to Nanny Carrie although I don't think this is the last of her either as some of you pointed out...what is she up to?

Loved the scene of them walking to the game! The boys in their suits and ofcourse Jamie in his very own Ravens jersey...adorable!

Loved the eppy can't wait until next week and soooo glad we're getting more episodes this season and a 6th season, woohoo!!!

I have to say, I'm a fan of the show and have watched every episode, but I thought tonight's was the worst episode ever. I guess I had the opposite reaction as the blogger - I expected it to be fun and juicy, but just found it too contrived and over-the-top. I really thought all the ladies were over-acting tonight. And as much as I like Kate's voice and her songs (I really do), I feel like the show is practically turning into a musical - we don't need one or two of her songs every episode. I don't mean to be negative, there were some cute moments (Nathan and Lucus; and little Jamie is so cute - I don't normally enjoy little kids on TV shows, but he's becoming my favorite character!).

Ok, what the heck was Carrie doing going into Nathan & Haley's bathroom? I mean how did she know they weren't in there getting their groove back? I know he was going to tell Haley right then, but scary Carrie walked in. I am wondering if the poster who said that her & Dan have something coming up might be true. That would be interesting.

I didn't really watch much of last season, so what is he in jail for? Surely he's not getting out that soon for being in jail for killing Keith is he?

Also, Peyton was sooo beyotchy last nite. I mean she's a little that way normally, but she was more so last nite. I was like dang give that girl some chocolate! I was glad that ol Lindsey cut her back down. Sad about the way that she did it though.

Loved seeing Tim. YAY! I cracked up at the end when he said I've been here long enough I gotta get back to work & then walks over & pops the middle bar out & opens the door. Hilarious.

I still cannot bring myself to like Lindsay. I think she's too much. But I am glad the bitchfest stopped (for now). I love Peyton when she's awesome and laughing...which is what Lucas loved as well. Of course he doesn't want to get back together with this whiny version...give it some time, it will happen. When he starts seeing her the way he did when he was in love with her, that's where trouble will start.

And it is amazing to me that Haley is allowed to be self-righteous in any way, considering the crap she put Nathan through...kissing another man, leaving for a tour (both when she was already MARRIED!) with said man...she is my least favorite character on this show currently, simply because she's such a holier-than-thou wench about everything!

Overall, worst episode ever.

However, there were some hilarious moments and some things I did enjoy.
First, I loved Tim! Second, Brooke and Peyton own my heart. I love those two. Loved the hug from behind, the vampire comment, the singing, and the hug/wink/i love you combo at the end.

The random singing montage was actually kind of amusing.

I'm not convinced that's Karen's ring. Why wouldn't Lucas have told Lindsey how special that ring was before? It makes no sense.

I can't stand Lindsey still. Her sob story was ridiculous. But when she picked up the chair, and fell back, I lmao.

How much longer until the LP reunion? That's all I care about right now.

Overall I thought the episode was kind of boring. The whole library thing got old after awhile and there wasn't enough of the guys!!! And wasn't it a bit unrealistic that out of five girls none of them could figure out how to get out?

But there were some good parts like the scene where the team and Jamie were walking down the hall. I thought that was really cool! I also liked the scene with Nathan and Lucas at the end and when Jamie was copying everything Quentin did! Also enjoyed Mia opening up and providing comic relief and the return of Tim. Seriously, how funny was it that he named his kid Nathan?!

And Peyton and Lindsey finally got to duke it out. Their fight went from funny insults to mean things like what Peyton said about Lindsey's dad. It was a really sad and emotional scene when Lindsey explained that her dad had passed on!

As for the Nathan/Carrie thing I just knew he was going to tell Haley about the kiss when the evil Carrie walked in!I just hope they fire her before her 2 weeks is up!

Next week looks great....
