« So You Think You Can Dance
Episode Recap: Our Top Twelve Revealed
The group dance is a Broadway piece choreographed by Tyce DiOrio. I probably enjoyed this more than I usually enjoy Broadway numbers. I really don’t know what my problem is with this style; it just doesn’t do it for me. The only Broadway piece I remember from any year of this show is the one Sabra danced last year. I can’t even remember who her partner was, but Sabra brought something wonderful to it and that performance has stayed with me. And as a bonus we see just how nasty Tyce can get when subjected to one bad audition after another. Ouch.
And who is in our bottom three? Let’s get to the results: Kherington and Twitch – Safe Katee & Joshua – Safe. Cat totally faked me out and I almost had a heart attack. If either of these two couples would have landed in the bottom three I’m not really sure what I would have done. There may have been some sort of extreme protest. Kourtni & Matt – dancing for their lives. Neither one of their performances were good enough last night so I’m not surprised. Courtney & Gev – dancing for their lives. I really like these two but I did feel that the other couples were stronger in their performances. Mark & Chelsie – Safe. I just love them. Jessica & Will – Safe. I know I’m not shy about saying Jessica isn’t as strong as Will but let me reiterate how much I enjoyed their lyrical jazz piece last night. Despite just a few sour notes by Jessica, they were both very strong. Comfort & Thayne – dancing for their lives. No surprise.
Our featured dancer this week is the phenomenal Robert Muraine. I don’t think words can express how amazing this guy is. Check this out. Did you watch it? I’d say it’s possible he’s triple or quadruple jointed. He can move his body is any way he wants. Amazing. I would have preferred to have Nigel talk a lot less sh*t to and about Robert. This competition isn’t about you Nigel! I am, however, looking to a possible battle between Robert and Philip Chbeeb. If and when it happens I know it will be amazing.
Solos: Kourtni – I think she’s always pretty amazing in her solo. She goes out and attacks it but after last night’s poor performances I’m not sure she’s earned back my vote. Matt – His technique, as always, is impeccable. I think he’s finally allowing his personality to come out. Will it be enough? Is it too little too late? Courtney – She’s such a great little spitfire. She dances with passion and precision. I really like her piece. Gev – He simply amazes me. His solo is fun and really shows his skill level and personality. It is a treat to see his solo tonight. Comfort – I love her but I don’t know if I love her solo. I was distracted by what appeared to be her constantly pulling up her pants. I know she isn’t actually doing that but it really cuts down on my enjoyment of her dancing. Thayne – I think he’s always strong in his solo. He seemed to be doing something a little different with it tonight and I’m really enjoying that.
So who is going home? Nigel tells us how tough it was to come to a decision. He really cares about these contestants and he’ll be very glad when the public takes over and has sole responsibility for sending someone home. That being said, let’s get to it.
Courtney – She’s always risen to the occasion and done what the choreographers asked of her. She’s safe. Comfort – They’ve watched her grow throughout the competition and they think she did a good job the night before. Nigel doesn’t think she’s strong enough but the others do. She’s safe. Which means Kourtni will be leaving tonight. She’s grateful for the opportunity and could go on for hours thanking everyone. She’s excited to see where she’ll go from here.
Gev – It’s the first time we’ve seen him do his thing. It’s fantastic. He’s safe. Matt – He came in at such a high level and hasn’t grown. He’s going home which means Thayne is safe. Matt enjoyed performing on stage and he thinks this group of dancers is fabulous.
I am sad to see Kourtni and Matt go home but I think it was their time. They put up a good fight but in the end they just couldn’t master enough different genres. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes on these two.
What did you think? Did the judges send the right two people home?
Until next week. Happy 4th!

I think it was right to send Matt home, but I think Comfort should have gone home instead of Kourtni. Side note, did anyone hear Cat say, "Get the hell off my stage?" I know it's not the shocker of a statement, but I didn't think FOX would let it slip through seeing as the show is catered to tweens and teens. Funny stuff.

Are you sure that it isn't TYCE, at least I think I remembered that is how it was spelled on the screen.
I have often wondered if anyone has seen some of the different judges in their own dancing performances. I don't know if they were dancers "back in the day" or if they still are. Either way it would be interesting to see how they do.

I was really sad to see them go, but I just don't think America latched on to these two. Only 2 more to go before we have the TOP TEN!!! I think Thayne, Comfort and Jessica all are in danger of leaving next week. I love the others tooooo much!
Oh, and the choreographers are mostly dancers who are now too old to dance, so they choreograph. Napolean and Tabitha still dance at conventions and such (but then they also choreograph). Just a few years back they were at the Luvabulls (the Dance team for the Chicago Bulls)

one thing I can say about the judges - they are mostly consistent with their reasons for sending people home. They almost always send people home who haven't shown growth in weeks and as much as I enjoy watching Kourtni dance she really stalled. Comfort, on the other hand, has improved in recent weeks although her solo was pretty bad. I'm not a dancer so it is hard for me to distinguish the nuances between any style of hip hop, popping and bgirls so I tend to lump them all together (I know, I know) and she really paled in comparison to Robert Muraine and Gev. I think she will be in big trouble next week if she doesn't score out of the ballpark.
The right guy went, imo. Thayne can fly and Gev was so entertaining - he really needed that solo to remind people how great he is in his own style (which I had totally forgotten).

Has anyone else noticed that Cat Deeley has been wearing fashions that might be trying to conceal a "baby bump"? A friend of mine (50-something year-old woman) who doesn't watch the show regularly was over the other night watching with me and she asked, "Is she pregnant?"
I guess time will tell, but what do you think?

I have a few words about the elimination last night, but I don't want to fill this post with explitives. I have liked Matt & Kournti since their respective tryouts and I think they were two of the most technically skilled dancers on the show. Even when the judges were complaining about their routines I liked them (except maybe the hip-hop from last night, but I'd say the choreography holds much of the blame).
And don't even get me started on the solos from last night: Comfort has underwhelmed in every single style she's done--including her own--and I don't care how "beautiful" she looked last night. This is not America's Next Top Model. For 2 weeks now superior dancers (Kourtni and Chelsie T) have gone home because the judges want to keep Comfort around. BS is what that is.
And there was no way Thayne outshone Matt last night. Matt was amazing and Thayne was so-so. They basically told him, You started out amazing and you're still amazing but we'd rather stick with mediocrity so we can see some "growth" even though he'll never be able to touch your talent.
I love this show but when the judges start basing the eliminations on their preconceived top 10 instead of the actual dancing going on I lose faith in them. This is what I hate about reality TV--and why I don't watch much of it. At least the eliminations on the Amazing Race are justified-You come in last, you're out. Frakkin Garbage. Truly. Sorry Matt & Kourtni, you were cheated...

I think the right 2 went home last night. I think that both Kourtni and Matt are tremendous talents and the exposure this show afforded should do them well. Were their solos better than Comfort and Thayne's, definitely. Do Comfort and Thayne have more personality than Matt and Kourtni, definitely. Like it or hate it, this show is as much about talent as it is personality. Kourtni and Matt, in my opinion, never really sparkled. Loved their technique - but Thayne and Comfort appeal more. I do think the judges wanted to keep Comfort around until the top 12. She's a fan favorite - maybe not on this site - but she is. That being said however, if she doesn't bring it next week in a MAJOR way, she will be gone...until the tour

I have to second what allie said. I was blown away by Gev's solo. The judges could not have sent him home after that. And, yes, Comfort is going to have to dance her little heart out next week. I also agree with dark24angel on the judges' take on performers who started out "amazing" and not improving. How do you improve when you're already amazing? Do you tone it down so you can show improvement? But then you might be eliminated earlier. Rock and a hard place. That said, I personally like Thayne a tad better than Matt. Mary mentioned how good he was in the opener, so I rewatched it, paying close attention to him. He definitely played the role and put 100% into it. If he's eliminated, he needs to head to Broadway. I also thought he did a good job with the West Side Story number......so I was surprised to hear Nigel say he wasn't strong in it. He was also supportive to Comfort when she was being criticized.....while Will seems to have some sympathy for Jessica in those instances, Thayne showed empathy and real caring. I'm with Cat in being glad I don't have to judge who goes home. They are all so good at this point.

The group number last night was pretty cool. I don't usually enjoy the boradway performances either unless they really pop or the dancers really shine.
Tyce was so funny.. I remember watching him through the auditions.. he was so nice to everyone in the beginning and then you could see the gradual thinning of his patience. lol
The solos were alright, I thought Comfort's was much better last night then last time, I was a bit iffy with Thayne's solo, put he pulled it off. Gev was awesome!! I had totally forgotten how great he is!
I am really glad that Khourtni has gone home, she doesn't seem to show any life or passion or something in her dancing. I am not sure Matt should have been sent home since Khourtni was dragging him down.. but Gev and Thayne both deserve to stay as well. Ahh the choices!
Cat looked smoking hot last night!!

Not happy about the sendoffs. Comfort is long overdue to be sent packing. She is the worst dancer of the group and I don't see the growth that was mentioned by Nigel. That said, the top 4 couples aer pretty clear and Comfort should be gone next week - hopefully.

I suspect the 'battle' between poppers Robert and Philip might have been already planned and Nigel was doing an act to set it up.

Is Nigel just a trouble maker or what? What was the point in berating Robert over and over again? Did he not make his feelings known when Robert left Vegas week? Seriously, you invite the guy back to perform, then you proceed to just drive a stake through his heart. Shut it already. He's a great talent and I'm sure he had his reasons for leaving. Do we deride Nigel for his giant, wooden teeth? No...some things are better left unsaid

It was their time to go home. I don't feel that they were cheated. There's no doubt they had amazing technical skills. However, I never felt a connection to their performances, only their solos. It's obvious that I'm not alone since they were in the bottom consecutive weeks. They're amazing at what they do but when they gotta tackle different styles, they seem to struggle with the performance. The fact that I never saw any chemistry between the two of them was another major let-down.
For the person that said Comfort should have gone with Matt, could you imagine Kournti partnering with Thayne? The judges wouldn't let that happen.
Robert was sick as usual. No problems with what Nigel said. Robert was a chicken. He was afraid to get cut, so he quit.
