Episode Recap: I Promise

“What the nickelodeon is going on around here?!” I’m with you on that James because from the first few moments of the show I thought I knew who was going home tonight. It never even crossed my mind that Ozzy, the all-star of Survivor All-Stars would not make it, at least, to final four. It’s not like we haven’t watched week after week as castaways plotted to take him out and then backed away from their coup. Why should this week be any different? (Because Cirie finally turned her sights on Ozzy, that’s why, but we’ll get to that later.)

So much happened tonight I’m not sure how they crammed it all in with, what must have been a good 45 minutes of the show, focused on Erik. Let’s see, Erik eats lunch in the presence of topless Micronesian women. Erik drinks some lumpy, milky beer. Erik chews beetle nuts. Erik throws up. Weren’t we all about to? Was there no one else at the reward feast? Oh, right. Ozzy was there, beaming like a proud papa as he watched “naive” Erik’s horizons broaden.

Then there was Jason and the immunity challenge. Hold you hand above your head or you’ll be splashed in paint, was it, from the bucket tethered above and eliminated. I meant to focus on Jason for a moment, but I have to gripe about Cirie and Erik bowing out after 20 minutes for a bowl of gummy worms. This is immunity people! Nevermind that half of you had just come back from a feast. I can just hear the internal monologue, “Jeff’s offering up chocolate doughnuts. I gotta get me some of that!” The hell, Ozzy?!

You know, “Ozzy’s not the only God-like person who can win in this game.” Or so says Jason who, six-and-a-half hours later, was the last man standing next to Parvati and facing an offer all crossed-fingers said he should not take: A basket full of goodies for the tribe if he bowed out and let Parvati win immunity. My Spidey Senses were screaming, “Stupid move!” but that could have been because I knew everyone was lying. At least Jason extracted a grudging promise from them that they would not vote him out and voila! Parvati was sitting pretty — or smugly, take your pick.

Parvati swears she is running the show, yet she needs to take a lesson from Cirie. Why these people let Cirie have time to herself to think on Exile Island is beyond me. She’s a planner people. Cirie came back to camp looking for an opportunity to suggest taking out Ozzy and what happened…? I rest my case. The woman is good.

In the middle of all of this we see the emergence of a subplot: Worker-bee James vs. Queen Bee Parvati. Where has the love gone? His crack o’ dawn machete wielding matched with her sunrise annoyance spelled drama down the lane. Thank goodness it wasn’t the kind that involved James hacking off a limb ‘cuz I was wee bit worried ‘bout that.

It did, however, involve Parvati stabbing James in the back. All that was missing was her spinning around and slicing off his head Highlander style. Parvati is in this to win this. She hooked up with all the women except “best friend” Amanda and sided with Jason to blindside Ozzy.

That wouldn’t have happened had Ozzy, who had earlier expounded on the reason the Favorites were, indeed, favorites, followed the established steps to lasting in this game. 1) Don’t rave about the food you devoured at your reward feast to your poor, starving tribemates back at camp. 2) Never feel secure. Ever. 3) Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line – no, wait… 3. Never not play the idol when your neck is on the line. Granted, that last one is hard to figure out, but it bears saying.

All season Ozzy’s acolytes have tried to best him. It’s fitting, then, that in this case the student became the teacher, but I sure am glad I wasn’t on the receiving end of Ozzy’s death stare. He seemed little pissed off. A blindsiding will do that to a person as will having Eliza sitting on the jury gesticulating like mad at one's demise. I worry for Jason’s safety should he be the next to fall.

To wrap this up I wish I could make James’ doughnut philosophy fit the situation. I can’t, but I must quote it anyway and maybe even tattoo it across my shoulder blades. “Just because you’ve gotten on everybody’s nerves doesn’t mean a doughnut’s going to make it better. You really can’t expect to appease everybody over a doughnut. So, if you tempt somebody with a doughnut and they say, “Hell yeah, sure!” they might just want the d-mn doughnut.”

So long Ozzy. I hope that doughnut was worth it.

Next week will the Powerpuff girls make their move and ride James’ “girl power” fears to victory? Can anyone name the creek that Amanda is up? And will Erik need therapy now that his mentor is gone?

When will they ever learn? The immunity idol is not just for bragging rights. Ozzy is out of the game and he should have known it was coming. The hidden immunity idol is more curse than a good thing. I think failing to play the idol is dumber than playing a fake idol. And Ozzy's final comments about hating the alliance member who switched sides sounded dumb to me. The game is called Survivor, not Ozzyfest. I enjoyed Cirie's face during tribal, and Elizas reaction.

Jason made a dumb move even if he survived it. How do you put in 6 plus hours to win a challenge only to give up for a donut? I would have asked why they weren't making the same offer to Parvoti. Of course I would have known the answer already, as I imagine Jason knew why. She was safe no matter what, but that safety might be on the line next week. James take on it was great. Sometimes it is just a donut.

I wonder how far they can go with the girl alliance thing. I would bet there won't be three women in the final three. They still have to beat the men in the challenges. Big alliances like this can only hold up so long before they have to turn on each other and they never wait until the very end to start turning, right Ozzy?

I look for them to go after James or Jason next week. I wonder if they will make the hidden immunity idol available again since it is still early in the game. They could put it back on Exile Island and not tell anyone. They can put it in the same place and see if anyone thinks to look there again. I bet Jason would be the only one who would look. I think there has to be some reason they still have Exile Island in the game. I would take Probst's questioning them as to how sure they are about things as a hint to look again.

TERRIFIC episode tonight!!! I did not see that coming for a second! I thought for sure Jason was going to get voted off. But let me tell you, that was priceless. I just love poetic justice, and that was poetic justice. Ozzy kept laughing at Jason for making a stupid move...remember your own words Ozzy. This game is outwit and outplay (and as James nicely added, outlast). Ozzy just got too comfortable and forgot that other people are allowed to play the game, too...not just him. It was nice to see because Ozzy was getting on my nerves; too smug for his own good.

I LOVE Cirie! She is playing this game extremely well, and even though she may very well be taken out sooner or later once the others start realizing just how well she is playing, I REALLY hope she wins this. There is no question in my mind she is playing the best game of anyone out there.

Wow...great ep! I always enjoyed watching Ozzy tear through the challenges. But his king-like attitude this season made it hard to cheer for him. And while it was stupid for Jason to trust the others, Ozzy surely would have played the idol had Jason won immunity.

So far, only Yul from Cook Islands has mastered the use of a hidden immunity idol. That doesn't mean it has to be played, but it certainly needs to be used properly. And it looks like Eliza had the last laugh after last weeks fake idol. Exposing Ozzy's idol was the beginning of the end.

Speaking of laughs, the immunity challenge was hilarious. The back-to-back-to-back eliminations of Alexis/Natalie/James was too funny.

Looks like girl-power will be in full effect next week...unless Cirie decides otherwise.

In all fairness to Ozzy, Yul was able to master the use of the idol because of Ozzy and the rest of his alliance. I'm guessing Ozzy was hoping the same from his alliance.

AND I'm bitter that Ozzy is gone, I love Ozzy! Grrr... He does have a cocky attitude, but not nearly as cocky as Jason. Man I want to slap that guy!

I hope Amanda wins. I have a feeling James will be next to go. Or else I'd say I hope James wins.

I used to love Cirie, but she has now been part of ousting two of my favorite survivors of all time, Ozzy and Yau Man. She is dead to me!

Loved Erik's I'm okay with naked women, "but that's probably the most boobs I've ever seen."

Nooooo not Ozzy!! :(
What is with these people holding onto their immunity idols (and then getting voted out)! I was yelling at the tv "play the idol you damn fool!" LOL

I loved watching Ozzy in the challenges and even though he did get a bit too cocky, I'm bummed he's gone. I can't believe he threw the immunity challenge for some doughnuts, when he just got back from that feast! At tribal council, it probably would have been a good idea for Ozzy to say that he felt safe and hint that he would be playing the idol just in case they were planning on blind-siding him, which they were. That may have made people nervous and voted Jason out instead. Who knows, but I'd feel a lot worse knowing that I got voted out holding onto the immunity idol vs. using it and being safe and then ultimately losing in an upcoming week.

It seemed to me as if James was being loud on purpose to wake everyone up. He said he was irritated at being the only person tending the fire all night. I'm hoping his promise of "cussing someone out" comes next week and hopefully it will be Parvati on the receiving end. I didn't like her on Cook Islands and I dislike her even more now.

Loved James' one liner poking fun at himself, "I thought I was the dumbest Survivor ever."

What was Ozzy thinking? He even said he would bring the idol and might even play it just in case. Well he should of played it. When he didn't play I was thinking someone could of changed their mind and voted out Jason instead of Ozzy. But of course I was wrong. The only person Ozzy needs to be mad at his himself. He should forgotten about the donuts and kept his arm up.

I love James, he is cracking up that quote was just way to funny for words. And I also hope he cusses someone out soon. You just know that is going to be funny. K4lakers, I also couldnt stand Parvati during Cook Island and I really can't stand her now. I think its her smimle that gets me. It reminds me of the Joker from Batman.

I think the reason why Natalie lost her balance while she was on that pedestal.

I think Cirie might just win this. She has already taken out some of the best players so far. She might make it to the final 3.

I know this didn't happen, but I think it'd be great fun if Ozzy, thinking himself safe forever, had given the idol to Amanda. That would be a great surprise to the tribe, huh? I would rather that James had it and could redeem himself from last season's misadventure!

I'm very sorry to see Ozzy go. I wanted him to win on his previous season, but very much so on this. Gosh, this had me screaming at the tv! Other than the two phony idols used, have we ever seen anyone use the real idol to save themselves at TC? I really can't remember.

As for Ozzy's cockiness, that never bothered me. I thought he had a right to be and I think most people would get a little cocky in that situation.....it sure made for a spectacular fall from grace, however!

I knew that Ozzy was gone and he deserved to go. He just had a feast and gives up immunity for DONUTS. I love Ozzy and wanted him to win but that was even a dumber move than Jason's. Ozzy was my favorite one on there. I didn't want him to go. He should of used the idol. I kept saying use it use it. Now I will root for James he is my second favorite. You would think that Ozzy would of learned from James last year.

I'm pretty sure it was just colored water and not paint.

How about those 3 chocolate donuts, Ozzy?
By my calculation, they were worth $333,333.33 each.
Wow, and I thought James was dumb to not play the Idol.

I'm not sure I can even watch this show now. I sort of always suspected that Ozzy wouldn't make it to the end, but (1) I can't stand that Parv changed allegiances, (2) I can't stand Cirie who can't win on her own so she plots and gets others to do her bidding, (3) I can't STAND all one sex alliances whether it's men or women, and (4) I love watching Ozzy at challenges.
I'm a Survivor fan, so I'll keep watching I suppose, but let's just say the wind has been taken out of my sails for this go round.

I guess I'll keep watching at least as long as my local boy, Erik the Ice Cream Scooper from Hell, Michigan sticks around.

There were a lot of good quotes tonight from James' doughnut quote to Erik's boob quote, but the one that made me laugh the most was when the one gal went out due to lack of concentration and James said, "Wow, that sucks...oops" (SPLOOOOOSH!!!!) He wasn't paying attention while commenting on the gal losing her concentration and he got doused by the colored water. Too funny!

Eliza said in the TVGuide interview:

"I knew from watching her past season and seeing the way that she connected with people that she was an extremely dangerous player — more dangerous than Ozzy — because she had the potential to stick around once the merge came and pull people onto her side."

I thought that this suggested that Ozzy was going to get voted off in tonight's episode. Basically, Eliza said, "Pavrati is more dangerous than Ozzy, because she has the potential to stick around after the merge." Translation... Ozzy does not have the potential to stick around after the merge and is voted off. Evidently, this was correct.

I thought Ozzy should not have stepped down, but if you suspect you will not win a challenge it is better to get something for it... The 3-people out in the immunity challenge without getting the Milk & Cookie was awesome! :^O I was thinking one of them should have yelled, "I will take the cookie!" before the Nickelodeon-slime/water hit them. I think bowing out of a competition you know you will lose is a wise decision. (conserve energy and get rewards!) Jason should have known that he could have been vulnerable despite guarantees. Otherwise, they would just tell Parvati to step off and they would still get their food (and leave him weaker the following days). The Immunity Idol, when played/used, is the ONLY guarantee.

I was not surprised by Ozzy's post-elimination reaction, although I was saddened by his anger. Ozzy has consistently appeared honest and trustworthy within his alliance. However, the first person to suggest he be voted off/betrayed "is dead to him". I hope that Amanda and Ozzy are able to enjoy each other's company and build a lasting relationship.

I do not think it was a brilliant play by Cirie. In a 5-person alliance, the odd-person out can hold the power (join one of the 2-person couples and vote out the other couple). This would make it very likely that she would make it to the final 3. The guys may be strong physically, but she could play up her relationships and how she played the game. Right now I could easily see a final 3 with only the Fans (girls alliance to vote off James, then vote off Amanda/Pavrati/Cirie, probably followed by Erik). Who has received the least screen time? Squirrel Boy (Jason) and the 2 Fan-Girls... that is my guess for the final 3.

DARN DARN DARN DARN DARN STUPID THUNDERSTORMS!!!

Our Survivor was preempted by 3 hours of severe storm coverage (ok so it was a really bad storm with 2 inches of hail in my yard and 60 -70 mile an hour wind) but we didn't get to see any Survivor! I guess I will head over to CBS.com and see if it is online yet!

Well Pooey! I wanted Ozzy to win.
