« Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites

Episode Recap: I Should Be Carried on the Chariot-Type Thing!

I’m scared. My favorite favorites are squabbling and try as I might to convince myself that this was game-playing at a superior level; that these two powerhouse strategists had planned a public fight to throw everyone else off the scent; that Cirie and Jonathan are the tightest alliance on the show, I couldn’t. Quite frankly, I’m afraid that Cirie might win the battle but that the war will go to someone else.

First, I must give credit to Survivor: Micronesia for at long last casting a show where both tribes are somewhat equally matched. There have been no runs of success and no bouts of loss for Airai or Malakal. Each week the game can go either way. Tonight it went both: Favorites won reward and fans won immunity. Kathy and Ami went to Exile Island but the idol remains hidden.

This leads us to the main event of the night: The fight for Cirie. I don’t envy Cirie. It is not easy being the swing vote between two alliances. I was so happy to see that she did not cave under either group’s pressure but instead bent the couples alliance to vote as she wanted. Unlike everyone else Cirie was not dazzled by Yau-man’s good press and she singled-handedly got him voted off the island. I fear this was a smart move at the wrong time. Now Cirie has the wrath of Penner coming after her “point blank period” and no alliance at her back. You can’t win Survivor alone. While I loved Cirie calling out Penner on his placing in the show compared to hers let’s face it, she’s no Terry. I doubt she’ll be winning a slew of individual immunities to take her through to the end. What’s going to happen to our lovable, but vulnerable nurse?

And then there is Eliza who has dodged another bullet. She took a beating at the first challenge. Did anyone notice Erik deliberately bash her in the head with a bag? At camp she was again the target for eviction. Her days are numbered. She really ought to start rubbing up against somebody over there. It probably won’t help, but it might make her stay a little more pleasant. As Jeff said, Malakal is a divided tribe. I don’t see reconciliation coming any time soon.

Over at Airai, things are not much better, but one night in the freezing rain can change a group’s perspective. They were shivering and pruned going into the coconut net-ball immunity challenge, yet they managed to win. Maybe now they will get it together and build a decent shelter. Here’s a note for Malakal. Yes, James is strong, but he can’t do it all. Why not have Ozzy and Amanda hold the net along with him and Penner? Seriously, you chose Parvati and Cirie as his strength partners? You deserve to go to tribal for that bone-headed move.

Next week the showdown between Penner and Cirie continues and Joel and Mikey’s rivalry heats up. Who’s your pick? And did anyone forsee Yau-Man making it only to the third week?

I'm kind of torn by this episode. On the one hand I love it when obnoxious control freaks like Penner find out that they aren't as in charge as they thought they were - but on the other, why did it have to be Yau-Man?

Rhoda - Not sure if I understand you correctly, but it sounds like you're suggesting that Ozzy, James, Penner, and Amanda should have held the net. Jeff stated when explaining the challenge that they had to choose two men and two women.

Penner may be a control freak, but he has always been one of my favorite players. He can always be counted on to stir things up and keep us entertained. Unfortunately, it looks like Penner is in trouble after tonight's vote. I like Cirie, but tonight she was being a real drama queen. She went on and on about Penner being an untrustworthy liar, but in reality his behavior thus far has not suggested anything like that. He had an alliance and welcomed her in, and then she went after him with her mouth and Yau-Man with her vote. I always respect good game play, even at the expense of my favorite players, so I sure hope Cirie knows what she's doing.

I'm lost on how I feel about tonight's show - it certainly surprised me! Hated seeing Yau Man voted off and wow did Cirie ever surprise me. When did she become that tough and devious? Know she's really trying to figure out what's best for HER but wow is it ever going to be hell the next couple of days in the Favorite's camp? Agree, though was rooting for the Favs I think the Fans have a good, competitive team, who play LIKE A TEAM, at least most of them, and except for the big guy (forget his name) don't really dislike many of them that much. Should prove to be an interesting season. Glad they're all eating and that they didn't take away their clothes like they did last time. But wait, there'll be lots of blurred scenes with suits falling off.

Not Yau Man anybody but Yau! Cirie and Jonathan going at it was fun though. :) I don't think this early in the game it was wise to send Yau home. It really should be the weakest link.

Plus if Cirie is torn between two alliances, wouldn't you hope that someone from the two alliances finds the immunity idol?

I realized tonight that I was rooting for the Favs. I just can't get into the other team all that much.

I was surprised to see Yau Man go home that soon. Definitely. But I didn't mind it so much, though he's always seemed like a sweet and smart guy. I think Cirie thought it might be her only chance to get rid of him even though it does seem a bit early to do so. She might not have this influence again and she knew he'd be a big threat later on.

I am wondering why Amanda voted for Cirie. Is there a purpose for that?? Maybe it was a personal thing, like Amanda not appreciating how Cirie talks about her and Ozzy.

Noooooooo, not Yau!! I didn't like Cirie on her original season and I realllllly don't like her now. During tribal council James rolled his eyes and muttered to himself and Ozzy shifted uncomfortably in his seat so I hoped that maybe Cirie was getting on their nerves enough for them all to vote her out. After getting his torch snuffed out, Yau was such a class act. I'm really sad to see him go. Upon watching the closing credits, it was Amy who voted for Cirie. I wonder what that was about?

Oh, I thought it was Amanda who voted for Cirie. Still, I don't make any sense of it being Amy either.

I liked how at the favorites camp Jonathan just walked into the other alliance's conversation. So obnoxious, but so great!

I wonder if Jonathan and Eliza had been less confrontational with Cirie they would have had her vote. My sense is that Cirie is aligned tighter with Amanda and Parvati than Jonathan and Eliza realize. And honestly, being tight with Amanda and Parvati is probably a good move, assuming that they don't dump Cirie for their boyfriends.

Also sad to see Yauman go. I loved watching him in the game, but I have to say that without a smooth, confident, and well-liked partner like Earl, he had a hard time finding strength in his alliance. Jonathan basically ran him out of the game with his mouth. (I still like Jonathan though...)

First of all, why have they started calling Jonathan by his last name? I don't like it. He's my favorite this season (along with Yau-man), but I have a feeling he's not long for the show.

I think Cirie is making a big mistake. They should have ousted Parvati this time and Amanda next, if there is one, keeping James (strength) & Ozzy (speed) around to help the team until the merge. She has definitely thrown in with the wrong side.

I can't believe no one got hurt in the reward challenge! That was really intense!

I think if you looked up the word "twit" in the dictionary, you'd find Kathy's picture. I hope she goes soon.

I thought it was great when James got pissed after one of the women got upended during the challenge and he strode over and sent bodies flying and got one of the sacks. I also like how he congratulated the big fireman guy afterwards. Not only were they required to have 2 men and 2 women holding the net up, but you can't put all 4 strongest people on the net as the real way to win is get coconuts into the other net, and as we saw, the Favorites just weren't that good at it. I doubt they'd have faired any better if Ozzy wasn't shooting them in. I also found it funny that Amy voted for Cirie and Eliza voted for Yau-man. Wot's up wit dat? So Penner would have lost even if the other side would have stayed split over Yau and Eliza being voted out because he only had 2 who voted for Parvati.

I don't get it. Why would Cirie align with two young couples when the other choice is older (more trustworthy?) people. Don't get it. I would trust Jonathan and Yau Man and even Eliza over Amanda and Parvarti since they have their own alliance of four with the two guys. ?

And of course I was so hoping Parvarti would be gone ~ But I knew that would be too good to be true. I knew she would not be voted out. Crap.:(

Didn't the big guy on the fans team look extremely mad and serious during that immunity challenge? I think he was counting how many times each person missed in case they lost!

I didn't get why Eliza voted with the other alliance suddenly either. It doesn't make sense, so I have to assume there's bad editing going on. I was SO hoping both alliances would wise up and vote out Cirie; I like her, but I thought she came off a bit overbearing last night and she offers the least to the tribe, so why would they bow down to her? Poor choices made all around.

I loved Jonathan before, and I'm so glad he's back. Annoying as he may be, he is smart and he didn't say anything to Cirie that wasn't true. She was the one who came off bad.

Ami voted for Cirie - in protest probably. Cirie played her hand way too soon. Last time, she held back and watched alliances disintegrate before she really began to "play people". Now it appears that Ami is taking that approach.
