Episode Recap: Season Finale

After six long weeks of rehearsing, learning, performing and telling off the judges we’ve come to the season finale. The votes have already been cast so it wasn’t 100% necessary for Crosby, Chloe and Jesse to perform at all, but I guess MTV had to fill that hour with more than just flashback clips.

Though it was a totally cheesy and predictable move, I couldn’t help but love the parent-child duets (what can I say I’m a sucker for family bonding).

Crosby Loggins: Crosby had a good energy as he sang “Steady As She Goes” and I was happy to see that he kept things upbeat without acting like a toolish rock star (the guitar is meant to played, not worn around your shoulder like a fashion accessory). I’ve made my love of the Loggins fam no secret, so imagine my excitement when I learned Kenny would be joining his son on stage. I’m still not crazy about the "I'm Alright" remix, or Crosby flailing his arms (I guess to get the crowd pumped) but how can you not love anything Kenny Loggins is a part of?

Chloe Lattanzi: Well Joe Strummer is certainly rolling in his grave after Chloe’s crazy, theatrical performance of “Should I Stay or Should I Go.” I was a little nervous when Chloe was about sing “I Honestly Love You” because that last performance scared the crap out of me. You’d think having your mom on stage would result in a less skimpy wardrobe and no spasms/gyrating, but apparently Chloe doesn’t think that way. Hot pants and crazy chains, that same eerie remix…even though there were no contortionists I think having Olivia Newton John sit as her scantily clad daughter moaned and humped around her made it even weirder than the last time.

Jesse Blaze Snider: I was kind of surprised to hear him sing “The Anthem,” since Jesse claims to be a true punk rocker—no self-respecting punk singer would be caught dead jamming out to Good Charlotte, especially not on national television. With a little help from his dad, Jesse picked things up with “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” I wished they had both dressed up in the Twisted Sister drag of the '80s, but I guess a father-son hair metal duo will have to suffice.

It was no shock that Chloe was eliminated first, leaving Jesse and Crosby to duke it out (again totally obvious, but in addition to family bonding, I’m a sucker for a good rivalry). I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t creeped out and confused by Jesse strip club version of “Hit Me Baby One More Time.” It wasn’t punked out or anything Jesse-esque and skank vibe was a little strong for me. Crosby let loose a bit with a solid performance of “Something to Believe In,” but it was still in his mellowish style. Again, neither performance was really necessary or did anything to sway me one way or other, but that time slot isn’t going to fill itself, right? Intense music played in the background and wasted 30 seconds of time, but in the end my crush Crosby Loggins was too much talent for Jesse to take on. After being announced as the winner of Rock the Cradle, Crosby performed his own song “Good Enough,” which I have to say was pretty good. I feel like I’ll see him touring hip, small, indie venues in the near future.

So what did you think? Are you happy Crosby won? Will there be another season of Rock the Cradle? Who’s kids would you want to see if there will be another season?

I was so relieved that Crosby won! I don't even like him all that much, but he was definitely the most talented in the bunch. I liked his original song more than most of the stuff he had done for the show. Maybe just because he was so obviously comfortable with it.

I disagree about Jesse's take on "Hit Me Baby One More Time". I enjoyed it, and honestly enjoyed most of what he did on this show. But that's because I'm a little bit of a sucker for his look, not because I think he has any talent.

Chloe continued to creep me out. Olivia looked so uncomfortable to be part of this mangling of her song. But Chloe did look rather adoringly at her at the end. It's got to be hard to be ONJ's daughter, even without being "left alone in big houses" most of one's life. Olivia is just so hot, and Chloe is just not. The pressure has got to be brutal. I'm glad she didn't win as a part of some joke voting bloc.

Regarding your question from last week of a Jesse/Lucy connection. There's definitely some hooking up going on, what with her "he's my best friend" comment. Did she mean best friend there? They've only known each other the duration of the show, right?

And finally, no way will there be another one of these. MTV cut this one back it tanked so badly. If it was a bunch of true nobodies, we may not have even seen it to conclusion, but MTV had the respect not to do that the the kids of these particular parents.

If however there were to be another, I know Rick Springfield has two sons... don't know if they're in the biz, but if either of them are, that would be kind of interesting.

I doubt there is anything going on with Lucy and Jesse....he's married....and I think no matter how much his mother adores him, she would rip his face off if she knew he was screwing around on his wife. Oh yeah....and Jesse was totaling robbed.
Crosby may have more musical talent but he's not a showman, he's not an entertainer. I can't fathom watching him perform for an hour straight. I'm glad it's over and I don't have to sit through anymore ear abuse from Chloe, which I hate to say because as a kid I thought her Mom was the ****, I must have seen Grease 50 times. How did that apple fall so very far from the tree?

Well, at least the best singer won. Jesse is still the better performer, but he is not a very good singer. And thank god that Chloe not only didn't win, but was kicked off. I had thought that maybe with such low ratings that hooligans like the VFTW people were gonna help her win. As poorly as this show has performed, I don't think Mtv would have allowed it, so maybe it was fixed. WTFE, I'm just glad she didn't even make the Final Two.

And no, there will NOT be a second season.

He's MARRIED and his mother is still dressing him?

These folks should be the next MTV reality show family...

?<img border=">I was highly upset with the outcome of the show. Jesse clearly has more talent then chloe and crosby. I was glad when they finally kicked off chloe (she sounds like a seal). However, when they announced that crosby won I had to question "what the hell is america thinkin?". Jesse has more range and can accomplish and sound good doing pretty much any genre. I would love to see crosby try to sing rebel yell or hit me baby one more time and sound even half as good as Jesse did. I'm not saying crosby has no talent, because he does. However, I'll bet anything that crosby will make his records, sell a good amound, but Jesse will also get picked up by a label and sell 10 times more. Just like the season of Idol where Daughtry came in fourth and beat out the 1st place winner in sales and talent.
I had high hopes for 'Rock the Cradle'. I thought for a moment that people who watched the show had half a mind to pick the right person in the end. It's just turning out to be hopeless like at every end of Idol since season one.

As far goes another season of 'Rock the Cradle'. Well, of course! This is the era of Reality Tv, nearly every station has some sort of reality show. Who's kid's will be in the next season? well I have no idea!.

I'm sure though that it'll turn out just like the first season. Putting Great talent next to good talent and the good winning.

I can't nore will I ever understand how anyone can think crosby is better than jesse, talent-wise.

Late to the party, but just wanted to add some final thoughts. I was extremely surprised that Crosby won, because I was sure that Jesse would be the winner because it seemed they were going for a "style over substance" thing. Really the only reason I watched the show was that I had seen commercials with Crosby in them and was intrigued. After the first episode I did research, found that he had a CD out, ordered it and have enjoyed it ever since. What I really don't get is why this show was on MTV to begin with. It really seems a better fit for VH-1. The parents were people I listened to in junior high, high school and college....and if you're going to play up the parent aspect, then I think you market it to an "older" audience. I realize the performers were more "MTV age", but I think the show would have been more successful playing on the nostalgia thing. I really can't say who I'd want to see on another season, because for this one, other than Chloe, I wasn't aware of any of the offspring and I really am not aware of any offspring of singers I enjoy.

Jesse does a call in show every Sunday night om talkshoe.com for all his fans. The producers made Jesse sing The Anthem and Baby One More Time. He did not pick thise songs out. He was going to also perform his origional song Jaugernat if he won. He had a week ro rehearsh all 4 songs and create the hait and wardrobe and all his other activities. Jesse is a very busy man.

He has way more taLENT than Crosby. How ever Jesse is now free to do his own thing. You can check out recordings of all Jesse's chats with fans at http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCastCustomAds.jsp?masterId=1000&cmd=tc

Jesse talks in the chats about freemantle wanting to do a second season of Rock the Cradle but are looking for a broadcast network. MTV cut the number of episodes in half because while ratings were good the show skewed older than MTV liked.

Also I asked Jesse if he would want his own reality show and the answer was a resounding no. Jesse and his band also have myspace pages. http://www.myspace.com/jesseblaze
