Episode Recap: "What About Blob?"
I swear, halfway through this episode I had a You Can’t Do That on Television moment, expecting a bucketful of green slime to pour down on someone’s head. That didn't quite happen, but tonight's ooze was nevertheless pretty grody, and I felt terrible that poor Ben got swallowed up in the stuff. But at least this time he didn’t lose any eyebrows from the ordeal.
The escaped soul, a corrupt tycoon who spent years polluting the environment by dumping toxic waste illegally, came back in green blob form (how appropriate) to try to wipe out all the people who stood to get his still-living son in trouble for the crimes he inherited from his dad. Our guys had to figure out how the vessel, a knitted Christmas sweater (Sock: "Maybe you use that and the soul laughs it way back to hell?") could possibly absorb a spirit. Well, I guess that’s exactly how it went down in the end, now isn’t it? Superabsorbent knitting saves the day. I especially enjoyed the Freddy Krueger claw that DMV-maven Gladys whipped out to extract the spirit. I have a feeling Sock really enjoyed that part.
So, let’s get down to brass tacks. I knew, I so knew that Sam’s dad was up to something. I didn’t buy his whole suddenly worried-dad shtick. I don’t doubt that as a father he must be worried somewhere inside that heart of plastic, but until he heard about Sam’s contract possession, he wasn’t exactly Mr. Involved. I want to know what he’s hiding. Is the page he burned something that points blame at himself? In any case, we know the Devil sees all, and I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of the issue.
It was creepy finding out that the moment many of us were waiting for, Sam coming clean to Andi about his deal with the Dark One, would be dangerous for her. Though that seems relatively logical, I think I would have still preferred it if she was able to play a spirit-butt-kicking role. In any case, we’re reminded here that the Devil, despite his charm, is still a baddie. 'Cause, yes, we needed some reminding.
Do you think Andi will ever find out the truth? Will Sam ever get a girlfriend with the kind of schedule he’s keeping? And what is the Halloween episode all about? I'm not telling, but I’m drooling in anticipation.

I think this show is great and hilarious!!! One thing that really bothers me about the actor who plays Sam- His facial expression when he's trying to look worried(he always looks constipated) and his cracking voice (it's so whiny!)- it's always trailing towards the end of his sentences- annoys me to no end, he should definitely work on that. Other than that, great show, Ray Wise never disappoints!

Sock was HILARIOUS in jail. He has the best one-liners!! I love this show. I literally laugh out loud. Yeah, what's up with the dad?? I thought why are you burning that up b/c you know the devil sees all!

There were some nerves hit in this episode. I liked that. The Devil and the Father getting testy. Nice twist.
So I guess now we are going to see less and less of Andi? How is she going to get air time? We need more Andi!
I also like the interactions with Sock and the Lady lawyer too.
I like this show before but I am really starting to enjoy it. It is the only show I watch on Tuesdays.

This episode seemed a bit darker in tone to me for some strange reason. It may be just that the Devil seemed so ominous in tone when rejecting Sam's request to meet with his father and when he "advised" Sam to leave Andi out of it. I am happy to know that there is so much more to this whole story now that his father has entered the fray by burning that page.
Also, the Devil can be a bit contradictory. No surprise there I guess. A few episodes ago he made a huge point to Sam of telling him how lying always ends up badly (when Sam was not telling his mom he was still working for the Devil.) Last night, ol' Satan said it is noble to lie to protect others.
Some highlights for me:
When Sam told the delivery demon that if the demon would go out to the bar with him, Sam would be his wingman...not that he would need it though as he was a very good-looking demon. I know there needs to be a devil's "deal" in place, but I would have had a problem signing my name so many places to get that document.
Sock suggesting the reason that Sam was slipping and falling may be because he is sucking his feet in his sleep; "my little brother does that."
Sock making sure to get a receipt for the use of that computer so that Satan can reimburse him.
The Devil saying that cracking one's head open on a toilet is "a very undignified way to go" in his opinion & later telling Sam to "wake up that sleeping bean" of his.
Love this show! I hope it can keep up its pace without seeming too formulaic.

I really liked the episode but is everyone else feeling that even after just a few episodes the 'sam blowing off andi and her getting dissapointed' formula is getting old? They need to find a new way to integrate her b/c I can't keep watching a show where every single episode is the same.

So now Aaron Douglas (Chief, "Battlestar Galactica") has been a cylon and a demon delivery man. Very cool that "Galactica" cast are getting gigs elsewhere since this is the final season. He should have gone to the bar with Sam.
I am really liking this cast. I just wish the show had better writers and more interesting stories. It seems to be lacking something that "Chuck" has. Maybe its just missing Yvonne Strahovski? Can't put my finger on it.

Ok is it just me or has everything after the first show been down hill? I mean if Sok was not on the show I would not watch it. To me he makes the show, his one liners are too funny.
The whole thing with Andi is getting on my nerves too. I mean come on if you like the guy tell him. If you just want to be his friend stop acting all strange around him.
I'm wondering how long they are going to keep her in the dark? Can't be for the entire season, I don't think I could take that. Sam making up excuse after excuse?? Please spare me.
Man what is really up between the dad and the devil? The devil was so mad about Sam's dad wanting to meet and then Sam's dad all weird about the book then burning pages in it.
I wonder what deal they really made and if the mom is in on it???

I think the delivery demon was supposed to prevent Sam from meeting Andi. Satan's just toying with him.
It would've been cool if the page Sam's Dad ripped and burned had been regenerated...like the vessels Sam kept trying to ditch in earlier episodes.
Now why couldn't the contract have been written in Urdu or Tagalog?

I really, really enjoy this show. While I think there are things that could be tweaked here and there to improve it, I find myself laughing aloud every week. Sock is by far my favorite, along with the Devil and Gladys (is that the DMV demon's name?). I loved when Sock was relaying the story of the girl that got away and when she came back pregnant, he thought "Good, because that just proves that she does go all the way." Ha! And when he held hands with Sam, I nearly died.
I do agree that the whole "Andi gets mad at Sam for lying" thing is going to get old. And Sam is such a bad liar. Why doesn't he just say "Something came up in my family" or "My family is going through some stuff that I can't talk about right now." His lies are ridiculous. Maybe I watch too much Supernatural, but it would be sweet if Andi had some sort of darker side, like demonesque or something. That would be a twist!
I enjoyed the Devil's darker side coming out a bit in this episode, because it reminds us that he is THE DEVIL! Every time Sam lets the Devil do something for him, I want to yell "Dude! It's the Devil! Anything he does for you has strings attached! Be careful!" I still love Ray Wise, though.
As far as the dad burning the page from the contract, I don't think he's doing that to subvert the Devil at all - I think he's doing it to hide something from Sam. I knew he had some sort of ulterior motive for wanting to help. Shady. I wonder what it could be.

Not exactly Ward Cleaver, Sam's pops.
Deliverance Brides. You can't get those lines on Criminal Mind(les)s, people. When is the TV viewing public gonna come to their senses and start supporting shows that have a modicum of originality?

latincandy I have to disagree about Bret Harrison and his facial expressions, voice, etc. But that may be because this guy looks just like my brother who my family has always compared to Chandler Bing (aka Matthew Perry). I always thought my brother WAS Chandler, but now we have Sam and he IS Sam right down to the facial expressions. Does no one else see a resemblence? Between Chandler and Sam of course, not with my brother since you guys obviously do not know him.
I enjoyed this episode as I have every one of them. Some make me laugh a little harder than others but I haven't watched an episode yet that I didn't like. And as Sandra mentioned, I am glad we saw this bit of a darker side to the Devil. He IS the Devil. And he was being so nice or not too evil anyway, so we needed that reminder. He will be mean, contradictory, play games and anything else deemed "devilish". I have loved Ray Wise in this role, love him nice and love him bad! I like seeing the diversity. He isn't the stereotypical devil.
I'm on board with the Andi/Sam situation although I will say it's not too far off of real life to me. It's maybe a bit more high school with the boy afraid to tell the girl and vice versa and the misunderstanding that make you want to scream! I know these characters are out of high school, but the way they act sometimes I wonder if they realize they are out of school and in the real world yet!! But again, I do agree we need some progression with the story line and not just the same ole same ole every week!
Was anyone else as bummed as I was that it doesn't appear Andi will be learning of Sam's situation and therefore won't be joining the gang in their (mis)adventures. I was looking forward to a kickarse chick! Surely she'll learn sooner rather than later. One can only hope ......

Just a couple of thoughts here...
First off, whatever happened to the telekenetic-like powers that Sam had in the first episode? I thought they would be developing as the show went on and he could use them against some of these other escaped souls. Seeing his mistakes as he learns to use them correctly could add some pretty funny scenes.
Now, for the way-out-there-storyline-idea portion of the post...
Maybe it's just me, but didn' it seem Andi's mother was looking at Sam strangely when he came to the door? Mor strangely than just someone coming to talk to her daughter. It was almost a scared look, like maybe she somehow knows about who he really is and his problems with the devil. So... I think it would be kind of interesting to find out if Andi is somehow the devil's daughter and that's why the devil keeps coming up with ways to keep Andi and Sam apart, even though he's pretending to help Sam.
Again, just a stray thought that crossed my mind, I doubt it's actually anything like that. Just thought it would be fun. heh

If you listen to the narration during the scene where dad burns a page from the contract, it hints that dad thinks he's doing it for Sam's own good, by keeping things secret that would only hurt him. I was thinking it might be something like the devil gets to have Sam's children too. That's why the devil is being so helpful, most of the time, in setting him up with Andi...

Okay - if Andi and Sam don't get a little time together I am going to be pissed.
I also have to say that I do love the variations that the show is doing with the demons and the vessels! Very creative and very funny!
I have to agree that Andi's mother appeared to be disturbed that Sam had shown up at her house. She really seemed to know something else was going on.
I also have to think that at some point Sam is going to come across some more poeple like him - demon hunters that are in servitude with the Devil.
