April 3, 2007: Mariella Goes Home
So the ladies got to go to Vegas this week and perform at the Pussycat Dolls lounge. I’m sure that has to be cool for them, getting to perform on a stage that at least one of them might visit in the future. But did Mikey really have to make them dance on the bus? I suppose it had to be done since they had no time, but nothing like endangering their lives for one song. Melissa’s comment about not getting that memo was pretty funny. Can you picture the bus driver slamming on the breaks for some reason and Chelsea’s high heel going right through Asia’s leg or something stupid like that? Way to go, Mikey.
The performance itself was just too quick for me to really judge any of the girls. I do know that the Pussycat Dolls cover of Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” is my least favorite song on their record, so hearing these girls sing the oft-covered song does nothing for me. What I did certainly notice was Mikey saying that once again Chelsea didn’t really get the dancing part. I really don’t get that at this point in the competition. Since the beginning, the show has continually focused on the fact that Chelsea isn’t a dancer, but each week she nails it. Maybe it’s because Mikey is seeing a lot more of them than I am, but I don’t see where his comment holds water. And I kept hearing Anastacia say she has weight problems. Ugh. Speaking from the perspective of a fat man, I can’t sympathize with a size 4 (or whatever she might be). She’s got a bigger build than the other girls, so she should be heavier. But did you see her body when she was using the treadmill? She is by no means overweight. She never has to shop in the “women's” section of the department store. I think the biggest problem was that the show couldn’t get her a dress in her size. You know, the dress doesn’t have to be one size too small to be sexy. She’s been there, what, four weeks now? Get her a dress that fits. Melissa S. gets the immunity again. This is the second time she’s been ready to go home, and the second time she’s gotten immunity. Girl’s got good timing.
Moving on to the elimination performances, I think these were the worst yet. Asia and Melissa R. did “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” and both were rough. Both of them missed a lot of notes, and Melissa R. started crying at the end. I usually agree with at least part of what Robin says, but she was totally off base when she said Melissa R. had her best performance.
Mariella and Chelsea sang “I Turn to You” by Christina Aguilera. Mariella was terrible. She was flat throughout the entire song. Again, I’m a huge fan of Chelsea, though. This wasn’t her best performance, but good enough this week. And jeez, she was hot!
“Unbreak My Heart” was interesting. Anastacia started off on the chair, which was sexy, and she began in that same smoky tone that Toni Braxton has, but her vocals went south really quick. She almost started whispering at points. It was just off as a whole. Melissa S. was the best of the bunch tonight, and she didn’t even have to be. Interesting how that worked out.
Mariella was the one to go and considering I thought she was the worst of the night, another fine choice by the judges.

I'm really beginning to enjoy this show, at least the parts I don't fast forward through - like Asia's crying.
I agree with David that I would like less editing on the camera shots so we can see the actual performance like in Vegas. If they want to show crowd shots and reactions. have a split screen or a little picture in picture shot of the crowd and judges.

I can't stand Asia! Ron made a comment on how Chelsea and Mariella sing through their "schnauz"- hello- that is all that Asia does! The music coach had it right that Asia is fake singing- Asia needs to go on back home and stop the constant whining! I am rooting for Anastacia, Melissa R and Chelsea.

Mariela was the right choice - she simply cannot sing and her vocal performance was horrible. I think it's easier for Chelsea to "fake" dancing that it was for Mariela to "fake" singing.
Asia was very irritating last night - but I get cranky when I'm hungry, too.
While Melissa R. is my favorite, I had to agree with Ron that she should not have broken down in tears at the end of her performance. To me, that signals immaturity and weakness. Even Lil' Kim, in all her infinite wisdom, said it wasn't a smart move. She could have waiting until she exited stage left, but not before she had yet to finish her song.
I'm with you Dave about the weight thing - when Anastacia was on the tredmill I couldn't believe she was complaining about gaining weight - she looks fit to me. And given how much practice these girls are doing, it would seem more likely that she would lose weight instead. She's just taller and has a bigger build than the remaining 4 girls who are short and very petitie. I wasn't impressed by her vocal performance either. Instead of imitating Toni Braxton's voice, I wish she had put her own original spin on it, but she did look hot drapped across the chair!
For some reason, Melissa S. keeps sneaking through. She might even make it to the final 3. I think Chelsea will also be in the final 3. I predict that next week either Asia and Melissa R. will have to hang up her boa.

I do not think Asia can sing at all. I think she was horrible, again, last night.
Why didn't Anastacia get her haircut during the makeovers? She has way too much hair and it does not look good. I have to admit. I did notice a bit of a tummy bulge in that too tight dress she wore during her performance, but she's isn't overweight.
Guess Mariela thinks it's easier to fake sing than fake dance. Whatever.
I'm with you David. I think Chels is doing a good job dancing. Granted I don't have a dancer's eye and may miss things pros see. However, when I'm playing my PCD CD, I'm not seeing them dance. I'm rooting for Chels.
I hope Asia goes home next week.

maurine - if Anastacia cuts the hair, the only think that makes her stand out is her build. I'm sure she wouldn't want that.
I've heard many people forget her name but say "the one with the big hair"

Soft Cell's version is actually a cover of Gloria Jones's original recording from 1964.

andytseng - nice call.
You're absolutely right with the original performer of "Tainted Love" - but it's interesting how no one is really covering that version (which is pretty different sounding than the Soft Cell version). I don't know if I've ever heard anything but "Soft Cell cover" when speaking of the many versions of that song available since the 1982 SC version.
Still, I'm definitely impressed with your musical knowledge.

I'm pretty pissed that this show is taking the place of one tree hill. when will this be over?!  tvguide says there are episodes for oth scheduled for tonight, and for last wednesday...i'm pretty sure i'm not seeing them. BRING IT BACK!

I finally watched PCD last night. Melissa S. surprised me. She might be a dark horse. But, I'm still sticking with my choice of Melissa R. being the one chosen as the next PCD. When the judges were critiquing their last performances, the PCD founder stated that Melissa R. is "The Total Package". The only thing that could keep her from winning is her immaturity. That would leave either Melissa S. or Chelsea as my next choice to win.
Asia does have very hard edges to her and her attitude stinks. Anastacia is so tall next to the other girls and she seemed very uncomfortable in the PCD clothing. Because of these reasons, I don't think that either one of these ladies will win.
Good-bye Mariella. I'm so happy that I don't have to hear you sing off-key anymore.

Am I the only one who finds it hard to believe that the actual PCD have to do their own hair and makeup?
Anastacia sounded awful singing. And she did look uncomfortable in the chair. Mariela was so off-key. It was like she'd given up. Chelsea was great. She's still my girl!
Why are all the dresses so short we can see their knickers? I've seen the PCD perform (the singing group) and they wear sexy outfits, yes, but they'll also wear shorts or trousers, etc. not micro minis 24/7. They seem to be into bare midriffs more than micro minis.
Anastacia trying to find something to wear reminded me of ANTM when the plus-size models try to get into wardrobe. The show knows who has to be dressed. Why don't they have things in every girls' size?
Asia has a very sour attitude and I've said before, that this is not good for someone who wants to be in the public eye and wants the public to like her and buy her album and see her in concert. Asia scares me. As a PCD fan and consumer, that's not good!
I've noticed that the girls seem to have an unending supply of PCD shirts and jackets. I wish they'd make them available to the public.
FYI-the PCD have redone their Web site. It looks good.

For those of us who watch the show on Wednesday, Dave, would you please make your titles a little less revealing in the future? Like not putting the outcome right in it?
I really can't see Anastacia in the group. She would be better as a solo performer. I was surprised that Robin was so emotional over Mariella being kicked off, I didn't realize they had a bond or anything but the girl cannot sing. It was awful listening to her. Melissa R. crying at the end of the song over her grandmother?? What?? I would have kicked her off just for that if Mari wasn't still in the picture.
I can't stand Asia and want to see her go soon. She's not only whiny but I don't like her tone when she sings.
And is it just me or is the theme of every episode "being sexy"? And Mark McGrath does absolutely nothing on the show. He's not needed at all. What an easy paycheck for him.

Mark is really awful.
I didn't understand Robin when she told Mariela that she was so pretty. The lights must have been in her eyes because I've never thought she was pretty.
Anatascia will fit in with the PCD like Giant fit in with Jack. I'm sure Robin wants to find someone who will be in the same photo frame when taking a group photo.
Asia needs to start liking veggies. If she makes it into the group, does she think it's going to be fries and burger every night? I don't know what the big deal is, but it sounds like she's a picky eater. Send her back to Nu Yawk!

Yes, please, do not spoil the end in the title! Additionally, can we get someone else to write this? These reviews are duds. I think Mariella is very pretty. She might not be the most striking with makeup, but I think that without makeup she looks much better than most of the other girls. And her body? WOW. I would have liked to see Asia go. I like Chelsea, Ilike her personality and her voice, but I think Melissa R. would fit in better with the others.
