« Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll
April 10, 2007: Close to the Heart
Boob pads?
Oh sure, I know there are gel inserts a lady can pop into her dress to make her look bigger than she is, but I’ve never really heard them called “boob pads” before. Has Melissa R. been using boob pads this whole time, but not tonight? Has she been duping me this whole time? And how many other girls on the show are doing it? Any of the actual Pussycat Dolls? Eh, it’s not like I’m getting to see them after the show, so I guess it really doesn’t matter as long as these enhancements make the girls look sexy. Mikey seemed to be interested in these enlargers, too. “If I had boobs, it would make me feel more feminine.” Mikey, buddy, that's one thing you definitely don't need to be.
I’m sorry to be touting my girl Chelsea every week here, but I love watching this semi-feud between her and Melissa S. I don’t know if I get what Melissa was saying with “if there were two of Chelsea.” The girls seemed a little confused themselves, though no matter what was meant by the remark, Chelsea knew it wasn’t positive. I loved Melissa’s little confession later: “I didn’t want her to actually hear it.” Well, you were sitting directly across from her, so you might want to stop and think about that next time. But the devious part of me chuckles when I see Chelsea almost laughing anytime the judges go hard on Melissa S. The girls who are left certainly aren’t the friendliest gang, are they?
Let’s talk about the other Melissa now. R. wins the immunity this week and she was good on stage, but there was such a mixed message being given off. Robin said numerous times how the girls had to be absolutely perfect, yet Melissa R. had a few little false starts even before getting on stage. So how did she win it? She might have been the best dancer, but she wasn’t perfect.
For this week’s performance we finally got to see all the girls performing together. Seeing them together really made Anastacia’s flaws shine through. She clearly looks different than the other girls, and she sounds quite different, too. When Anastacia sings a line right after another girl, the whole dynamic shifts. She’s got a much heavier and huskier voice than the other ladies. That’s not to say it’s not sexy, it's just different than the remaining girls. While that makes her the unique one of the bunch, I’m still not sure that being unique is necessary what this show is looking for. That said, oooooo weeeeeee! That burlesque show was hot. All five of the girls looked very sexy up there. Chelsea can perform for me any day of the week. That girl has it goin' on. The girls seemed to be mocking her for getting the swing because it required no dancing. But she worked what she was given. I only had two real issues with the whole thing: Anastacia really did sound quite bad coming in her second time, and Asia can’t stop moving her fingers. I fully admit that I didn’t notice this about Asia until the judges pointed it out during last week’s episode, but unfortunately, it’s now very distracting. I wasn’t listening to her, I was watching her fingers (and I’m sure that’s what the camera was directing me to as well).
I’m a little shocked that Anastacia didn’t make it to the final show, but she’s been down on herself lately so it seems like she peaked two weeks ago anyway. After the judges talk this week, it looks like Melissa R. has the inside track to be the next Pussycat Doll.
Until next week, friends.

Asia has....to....stop moving her fingers on the mike. It is so distracting. The judges talk about it amongst themselves, but never say it to her. (or maybe they did and I missed it)
I really liked Anastascia, but she definitely started with a confidence issue when the group got smaller. She towers over all the other girls and I guess that was just too distracting for her.
I have no favorites, but seriously (and I'm sure that I'm in the minority) Chelsea is not a Pussycat Doll. Everyone including the judges continuously points out that she can't dance, and last time I checked, um, dancing is a major part of the group's dynamic. It doesn't matter, Robin, that she's a fast learner. She will burn out under the pressure of having to learn choreography fast in the real world. She definitely got a break from Robin with the swing bit, and I love that it didn't escape the other girls what was going on.
Finally, was it just me, or did it seem like the actual Dolls were much taller and bigger than the three contestant Dolls?? Whoever wins is going to be lost in the group.

I can't exactly put my finger on it, but I CANNOT stand Melissa S. I was so sure she was going home, and I yelled at the TV when it was Anastacia. I figured she brought something unique, while the judges easily admitted Melissa S. didn't. Anastacia and Mariela were 2 of my favorites, so...crap. And because Chelsea isn't a strong dancer, I'm positive she won't make it to the final show, which...crap twice. Melissa R. is the frontrunner for me, even though she would probably be overwhelmed by PCD. And Asia...I just don't feel her, and you can tell she thinks she's really superior to basically everyone else and cannot take criticism well. But so help me if Melissa S. wins. She is just such a conniving, insecure, two-faced, look-at-me-I'm-so-pretty snot, and you know in high school she's the personification of a Mean Girl. She belongs on The Hills. I was positively filled with glee when she ended up in the bottom two and Chelsea didn't since she's been such a witch to Chelsea the entire series. Ugh. Cannot. Stand. Her.
Anyway, Viva Melissa R.!

Hi Folks:
I've been saying Melissa R. to win from the beginning. Look at her. She looks a lot like Nicole. If Nicole is leaving PCD for a solo career, why not fill the slot with a look-alike. Melissa R. is rough around the edges, but she can be polished up and readied for the PCD. Once Melissa R. was on stage, she was fabulous to look at.
I knew Anastacia wouldn't make it. She's so much taller than the other ladies and her voice is very distinct. She should definitely look at pursuing a solo career because she is unique.
Chelsea is a wonderful performer, but unless Melissa R. does something very stupid, it's hers to lose.

When I thought about who would win immunity, I thought, Melissa R is out because she had some false starts. Then she goes and wins! Surprise!
Melissa S is really picking on Chels and the thing is, Mel isn't doing all that great herself. Chels was in bottom 2 once and I wouldn't even say it was her fault for being there. Mel has been in bottom 2 numerous times. Pretty soon she'll be in bottom 2 with someone better than her and Mel will be going home. I was hoping she'd go home last night.
Anastacia did not fit in with the PCD look. She looks like a giant compared to them. Plus, I don't think there was room for her hair in the group either.
I thought Chelsea rocked. She looked fab during the group performance. I didn't think her being on the swing meant less dancing. I'm sure the swing has its cons too. Mel was bragging about being in the tub and then she almost lost her mike.
Yes, Asia has got to go. I don't know what they see in her. Her fingers are annoying. Her singing is annoying. I don't enjoy her singing.
Chelsea is a great singer, but how much singing do the non-Nicole PCD do? Not much. That's why I'm worried about Chelsea making it to the group. Plus, she didn't make it on stage to dance with the girls. But, she has a great personality and Robin seems to be high on her so who knows?
When Mark introduced Lil Kim he said she was one of the most successful female artists and I thought what has Lil Kim done? I'm no rap fan, but what I've heard about her has nothing to do with music. Why do you pick a rap artist to choose a member for a singing/dancing group?

Even though Anastacia is clearly different (and not in a bad way) from the rest of the contenders, I think that Melissa S. is the weakest performer. She even admitted that on the weeks when she doesn't miraculously win immunity, she's consistently in the bottom two. All along Robin and Ron have said that she doesn't "bring anything new" to her performances, so why is she still there? But her catty comments to Chelsea was payback for Chelsea's own catty behavior, especially making it seem that Anastacia had an eating disorder. Melissa S. and Chelsea need to quit it with the mind games, because IMO neither of them is going to make it into PCD. And neither will Asia - while she is a stronger performer and like Lil' Kim said, you can't take your eyes off her, her singing is not the best (as Ron as said from the very beginning) and that finger tapping on the microphone is annoying at best. That leaves Melissa R., who I also called as the winner from the very first episode when I saw her uncanny resemblance to Nicole of PCD. You're right, LaNeal, this competition is hers to loose and she needs to let go of the "what will my family think" complex, because if she were really worried about that, she wouldn't have entered the contest to begin with.

I also thought it was funny when Mikey was telling the girls how to be feminine. But if Tyra can have Miss J, I guess Robin can have Mikey.

Well, I have to admit that the Final 3 I was hoping for was Anastacia, Sisely, and Melissa R. after they were a group together in the very beginning for "Pon De Replay". Now that we're only left with Melissa R., you can bet I am hoping and praying that she is the winner. I am afraid, however, that they way the camera editing has been playing up the "what will my parents think?" angle, that she may not come out on top.
I don't really want Melissa S. or Chelsea to win, but I wouldn't stop listening to PCD if they became part of the group. Melissa S. would just blend right in and most people probably wouldn't even notice there was a 7th girl, and Chelsea's vocals would be beneficial to their sound (and unless you see them live, her dancing would be a non-factor).
I would DEFINITELY stop listening to PCD if Asia won, however. I haven't liked her since day one, she has a terrible attitude, she is nowhere near as good as she thinks she is, and like most others, if she bats her fingers on the mic one more time I might convulse. That said, I really fear that she is going to win this whole thing.
The reason I am afraid that Asia might win is based off of the tvguide interview with Sisely. Sisely said that Anastacia, Melissa S., and herself still go out together, and Melissa R. would come with them if she was old enough. Unless they didn't keep a tight leash on the new PCD member, that would make me think that Melissa S. and R. were not the winners, and I have a hard time believing that Chelsea will take it all when Asia is a better dancer (though I hate her voice). My only hope for Melissa R. based on the Sisely interview is that Sisely said she thought Melissa R. might sneak in there to win, and that maybe she was covering up the fact that Melissa R. couldn't go clubbing with them because she won with the excuse of her age.
Anyways, here's hoping Asia goes next week (though she probably won't)!

Asia doesn't have time to go out with the girls. She's got a kid to look after.
I truly hope she doesn't win. Her neg attitude and lack of talent would spoil the PCD faster than the virus spread amongst the girls at the beginning of the show.
Did Melissa R's parents know she was on the show during filming? And is it singing and dancing they have a problem with or the lack of clothing the PCD wear?
So do we only have two more episodes? I can't believe that's it. Next week we'll get down to the final three and then on April 24 we'll crown the seventh member of the PCD.

How is it fair that Chelsea didn't have to dance as much as the others, and Ana gets the boot because she didn't dance and sing together well. This is not a even competition. Chelsea should had been made to dance AS MUCH as the others and then base the performances fairly across the board. Robin should have handicapped Chelsea's performance. Ana will be ok, so she's not a petite person, she should learn to work with her build -- to her advantage -- stand out.
Asia can't stand, Chelsea needs to go to...its a competition between the Melissas, with Asia third. Chelsea shouldn't make it the final three because she can't dance. Robin needs to stop playing favorites.

The judges (Ron Fair, in particular) did tell Asia to stop the finger tapping on the mike, but she hasn't.
I don't listen to/watch the PCD normally, I'm just watching because it's on. As far as I can tell, they are looking for someone who can blend right in. It's just the lead singer and everyone else anyway. Thus, tall girls like Anastacia and Mariela are automatically at a disadvantage - they look like giants next to the Melissas and Asia. And anyone who is too unique, e.g. Sissely (who I didn't really like anyway), gets the boot. Robin and the judges aren't looking for the next superstar, they're basically looking for a backup dancer who won't distract from the lead singer and the group as a whole.
I did notice that the girls seemed short and petite next to the PCD. Maybe the taller girls (Anastacia, Mariela or even Chelsea) might have matched up height-wise.
I think Melissa R's comment was supposed to mean that it was a little better that 2 people didn't get to perform with the PCD, instead of just 1 girl. If it had been 1 girl, then she would have really felt left out - but since it was 2, that was supposed to somehow make it hurt less. Of course, Melissa S opened her big mouth and said something that didn't even make sense, even as an insult.
As for Chelsea's dig at Anastacia's eating habits - well, you have to admit that Anastacia wasn't eating particularly well. She would say "I need to lose weight, stop eating junk, etc" and then say "I feel like eating something" and go to the kitchen and eat cake. And then go exercise later, to make up for it, and try to eat healthy (basically, starve). Chelsea was blunt, but I think most of the girls were thinking the same thing.
I don't really care who wins, because it's not like I like the PCD, but I would prefer Chelsea or even Asia to the Melissas. Melissa R is a little more tolerable than Mel S, but the two of them act like little sheep - switching between the "leaders" of the pack. Back when Sissely was there, and she was having drama with Asia, the Melissas were chummy w/ Asia. But then they switched and made negative comments about Asia. Melissa S has a bit of an annoying (high-pitched) voice and reminds me of Melissa Gilbert from Little House on the Prairie.

I'm upset that Anastacia left. I think she was unique enough to fit in with PCD (if that makes sense to anyone else). I really hope she comes out with a solo cd, I love her sultry voice.
Asia is a horrible singer, I don't like her dancing, her finger tapping annoyed me long before Ron mentioned it and she has a nasty attitude.
Melissa S. is just way too ordinary to fit in with the group, and I don't think she sings all that well.
That leaves Melissa R. and Chelsea as my final 2. I think the winner depends on what Robin and PCD are actually looking for, if Nicole is truly leaving then they need a new lead singer. If that's the case I say Chelsea wins. She's the most talented singer of the bunch, and I honestly don't see the problem with her dancing. It might take her a little longer to learn it but once she does, I think she does the routines well. Plus, the concerts don't change every time, she'd just have to learn all the dances once and then she'd be fine. If, however, Nicole isn't leaving and they really are just looking for another doll for the background then Melissa R. probably will win. Robin seems to really like her and they all seem to think she fits in really well. Personally, I'm not a fan of hers and after the little crying spell this week, I don't know if she'll be able to handle the pressure of a tour. So there is my long opinion, thanks for reading it!
Oh and thanks David for not posting the loser in the title!

I thought the boob pad comment was funny.
I don't think Melissa S is as good a dancer as she thinks she is. I don't think she's going to be in the group. Since I hope Asia doesn't make it either, I think it's between Melissa R and Chelsea. Chels needs to step up her dancing though.
I wonder if Mikey makes comments to the other girls about their dancing and we just don't see it or if he only says it to Chels.

Did Melissa R once have short hair or was it just pinned up in the clips we saw from the beginning?
Lil Kim seems to love everyone. During judging panel, she said, "Oh I love (fill in the blank)" everytime someone was mentioned.
It looks like the girls have food brought in for them so they don't even have to cook like they do over on ANTM.

I noticed the finger thing from the very beginning when it came to Asia. It used to be a habit of Christina's (Aguilera), so I always notice when other people do it too. Although Asia does it in excess.
