Episode Recap: "Grass Is Always Greener"

So last week I got some heat for being too “recap-y” so tonight I thought I’d change it up. With that said, let’s get to it! After the choosing of the models, the designers found out that they would also be their clients. When they were told to make a hot cocktail dress for the "young woman", I thought this challenge would be a snoozer. But then Tim made it a tiny bit more interesting by announcing the cocktail dresses would have to be made from a “green” fabric. And in a Project Runway first, the models/clients were going to get to do the shopping. All the girls were giddy but extremely clueless in Mood. Needless to say, the designers were not too thrilled with what was bought for them. I loved how Keith, the guy sporting a bandana and large tattoo, got stuck with peacock feathers. And side-note, we’re only ten minutes in and Suede has already spoken in the third person twice, this is going to get extremely annoying if he keeps this up all season. Blayne, the other more “interesting” character this season, came up with a new nickname for Heidi. He called her Darthalicious for being shiny on the outside and crazy on the inside. Anyone else notice how Blayne adds “icious” to everything? Stella, who has started to reveal her true wackiness, has decided to go against what her client wants. This usually goes against the rules of Project Runway 101 but perhaps it could work in her favor. And seriously- Suede won’t stop with the third person.

Tim goes around to each designer to check in and when he gets to Kator he seems a bit concerned. When he says her dress may be a hot mess I realized just how much Christian Siriano has really rubbed off on him. Tim then makes two exciting announcements. Although there’s no immunity for the winner, their design will be sold on Bluefly.com, and tonight there would be a hot “young Hollywood” guest judge who was revealed later on as Natalie Portman looking more adorable than ever.

Time for the runway show. I really liked Keith’s yellow dress as well as Terri’s. Wesley’s was a disaster and Jerell’s was heinous and totally unflattering. I guess it was the lack of fabric choice but everyone’s dress seemed to be either the brown or yellow. And Jerell’s earlier comment about “team ugly brown fabric” was spot on after seeing all of the creations. I knew Kinley’s would be a judge’s favorite with the high collar. Not surprisingly, Wesley’s tight, short and shiny brown dress was not a hit. Stella’s dress was liked which was disappointing because I find her annoying and didn’t care for the design anyway. Michael Kors, being blunt yet hilarious as per usual, told Korto that curvy girls don’t want fins coming off their butt. Natalie loved Suede’s frock which I guess was young and whimsical but would anyone really wear something with a tutu? I guess since the ‘80’s are back in style you never know. Regardless he was crowned the winner. Wesley was sent packing leaving Korto and Leanne hanging on by a thread.

So did you guys agree with the judge’s decision or have any other favorites? Let me know below!

Suede and "alicious boy" have GOT to either shut up or get kicked off. They are driving me NUTS! They're both just trying way too hard to be the "Christian" (attitude-wise - nothing I've seen so far indicates they are anywhere close to him talent-wise) and it's not working. Christian could get away with it because he was (a) funny, (b) actually showed moments of minor humility, (c) was able to laugh at himself and other people who were teasing him, and (d) talented. Blayne and Suede are none of the above, at least as far as I've seen.

I have NO idea what Korto was thinking of when she made her dress inside out - that was just ugly. I think I would have sent her home before Wesley, but it was such a close call that I can't argue, really, with the judges decision.

I do have to give Suede props for his dress tonight - using the bias strips and creating that kind of woven top was really creative. Not sure what I think about the tulle skirt, but it was nice to see someone thinking outside the box and not stepping into a puddle of ugly in the process. (Sorry, major mixed metaphor there, but it's 2 am and I'm too tired to figure it out any better than that - LOL)

Next week looks to be interesting...

I found Wesley's wardrobe consisting of nothing but shorts totally annoying. So glad he went.

I thought for sure Blayne's dress was gonna be a disaster since they were focusing so much on him so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be something different and really cute.

I'm glad Korto was saved, I'd like to see what she can create in the future. I like her.

I thought Suede's dress was divine and yes, I would wear a tutu if I had the figure for it.

I was bummed Stella survived last week but find myself enjoying her this week. I thought she had a great sense of humor about Blayne's comments and I loved how she came through in that dress. I look forward to seeing what she can do when the challenges let them show themselves a bit more.

Wesley reminded me so much of Wyatt from "Weird Science". I am glad he is gone because he seemed a little whiny to me. Not to mention, his dress completely screamed HOOKER.

It was also a lot of fun to see the model's speak for a change. They normally serve as so much background. I would have been as messed up as they were in a fabric store. I have no idea about measurements and the like but I think they did a great job.

Well, last night, my favorite dress was Daniel's. It was really cute! When Suede won I was kind of disappointed. It was fun, but who would really wear that? And where? It was a huge bummer that Daniel didn't even make the top 3 and an even bigger bummer that Stella did when she completely ignored what the client wanted and did something that was "her". She's just lucky the client didn't mind that. I was surprised to see that Blayne actually made something that was pretty cute, though I'm getting sick of his -icious comments.

The bottom 2- Wesley and Leanne. Personally, Idk who should have gone home. The challenge was hard, and if your model picked crappy fabric, you didn't have anything you could do about it. I guess I think that Leanne should have gone because Tim warned her that her dress was too much, and she didn't listen. Wesley should've worked on the fit more, but I think if it wasn't that fabric it could've been ok. Leanne's would've been a mess in any fabric. Oh well.

Can't wait 'til next Wednesday!

To do justice to Tim Gunn, he was using the phrase "hot mess" long before Christian. Long before Project Runway, in fact -- he said it to the students at Parsons all the time.

I'm a Project Runway junkie and came across a post today that I swear I thought was the funniest one ever, so thought I would share it with other addicts out there. It's about an episode idea with kids and designers and tantrums. But the way it is written - too true! They really should do it, I don't know why they don't! http://parentzing.wordpress.com/

Is is just me or did Kenley's dress remind any one else of the dress Chris and Christian created last season when they had to do a "real-life" version of their couture creation? I really liked her design, but I was surprised none of the other judges mentioned it. It was the first thing I noted when her model walked down the runway.

Also, I don't care for Stella, lol. I thought her dress looked more hooker-y than Wesley's! It was too short and I just did not care for the lace up things...but that's just me, lol.

Thanks for posting the link, zenamd. Very funny and I'm sure it would be an episode I'd be saving on my DVR.

I am so pissed from last night. I can't believe that Suede (1st and 3rd person) won with that piece of garbage. He should've been in the bottom three. That wasn't a cocktail dress; it was for a punk ballerina. Kenley or Stella deserved to win that challenge: Kenley because hers was the best of the bunch and Stella because she redeemed herself from last week. And Blayne, enough with the -licious act!

First a used diaper, now a rag! Thread hanging, uneven hemline, poor fit front and back, really bad fit on her left (back) of the dress. No Way is nylon tulle a "green" fabric!

I guess the Judges already know who they want to win this season and are trying to justify the crap he produced. This episode was a little like the childrens' story of "The Emperors New Clothes" Where the emperor is naked and no-one wants to tell him. There is no-one so blind as he who will not see.

Hoochie is how I would judge most of the dresses. If you have to trim the pubes to wear the dress, it's just too short!

Is this a show about design or sewing skills? I always thought it was about design, but I must be wrong. Otherwise, not sure why anyone thought Stella's dress was in any way "good". I've seen that dress on a million skanky girls out on a Saturday night. There was absolultey nothing new or creative about it. All she proved, over last week, is she can sew.
