Episode Recap: "In Which Dell Finds His Fight"

First rule of Fight Club — never talk about Fight Club. Second rule of Fight Club? Never let your grandson find you old, bloody and sweaty over an almost dead man. I so called it! It was either that or a very aggressive orgy. Sign me up for that nursing home. The Fight Club one, not the orgy one. In honor of this very cool storyline, I bring you tonight's....

(trumpet sounds)

Hits & Misses List! Get it? Sigh.

The Hits

• Dell's grandfather Wendell (George Segal) and the "old man fight club", as Naomi put it. Not only was it cool to see the guy who knocked up Kirstie Alley in Look Who's Talking, but it was hilarious! Until Nate had a heart attack, that is. I really felt for Wendell. I'm sure it is rather boring in one of those places and his speech at the end about missing Dell's grandmother was heart-wrenching. He just wanted to feel alive again. We should all take his advice about fighting more (figuratively, of course) for what we want while we still have a chance!

• The Newlyweds who couldn't seal the deal came back! That was unexpected and I liked the storyline. After everything they went through just to have sex, I was rooting for them to be able to have a kid. It all happened rather quick though...unless days were passing quicker than I noticed! They got the bad news, mulled over options, almost had the brother father the baby and pulled a single lively sperm out of the poor man's testicles in what seemed like the blink of an eye. For such great doctors, Naomi and Addison don't seem to have many other patients to see. I did like an old storyline coming back. I'd like to see more of that.

• Officer Kevin Nelson. Frisk me, you fool! I loooooooooooove him! He is so stinkin' cute I don't know who to root for — him or Pete?? Oh well, I hope it takes Addison a long time to decide.

• Charlotte & Cooper are hot! I'd like to see a lot more of this "dating" duo. Hopefully, we'll get to see another side of Charlotte. I want some vulnerability. Her barracuda side is wearing thin on me.

The Misses

• The baby class was stupid. I didn't get why Cooper had to take it from Charlotte to prove he was "bad cop" material. He will never win an argument with her. It felt rushed and out of place in an otherwise decent episode. Although, the guy who's fake baby looked like Chuckie cracked me up. "Wanna trade? I don't want to bond with Chuckie."

• Sam & Naomi irked me tonight. Why the rush to put a label on their newly rekindled sex life? Why the pressure? Well, I guess they do have a kid...but still! I wanted to see them having some fun before it got all serious.

• Dell was way out of line by confronting Sam. I know there are Dell and Naomi fans out there, but I am not one of them. He had no right to butt in, regardless of his feelings. And was it me, or was that kiss he planted on Naomi the most awkward thing ever? It was sweet and it's cute that he cares, but he's a child. Couldn't she be his mother? I could never see those two together.

• No previews for next week most likely means this is the last episode we will see for awhile. Booooooooo! That's the biggest "miss" of them all.

Do you think we were left with a reason to watch when the show finally returns? The Dell-Naomi-Sam and the Officer Kevin-Addison-Pete triangles are heating up, so that's something. I'll watch again, even if we have to wait until next fall. I won't be waiting and counting the days, but this show has promise and I am going to stick it out. I hope they rerun the series while we are on a strike-induced hiatus and the lack of new programming will gather some more viewers. Until then, spread the word about this show and check back in with me when new shows return. Bye for now.

I'm with you - Officer Kevin is adorable. I hope she gives him a solid chance and PP keeps him around. He's got my root!

I love David Sutcliffe and hope he stays around.

But I cannot stand the Dell-Naomi thing. It is ridiculous. He was completely out of line with everything he did—challenging Sam and kissing Naomi. Not only is Naomi old enough to be his mother, but she's his boss! And Sam is his boss, too! Can you imagine some young guy telling his boss he was going to fight him for his wife?

I thought Gizzie was bad, but this fake love triangle cannot be over soon enough! UGH!

I didn't recognize him right away, but I was shocked to see George Segal so...old. I know, I know, it happens to everyone. I'm not criticizing him being old. But it has been a long time since I've seen him in anything new. The Just Shoot Me reruns and Look Who's Talking on cable have kept him looking like a (somewhat) younger man in my mind.

The Dell/Naomi thing is just so awkward. I hope that they are bringing it up now so that it can be dealt with (read: killed) once and for all. I enjoy the actor who plays Dell (I miss Piz!)--but I have to admit I don't like his character. Maybe this storyline is just to give him something to do. I really don't know what else they could do to make his character seem less random. OK, so his grandpa was on tonight but they writers can't bring every single one of his relatives to the practice to be helped with one problem or another.

Or, they shouldn't, anyway.

Dell did cross the line, when he kissed Naomi (his boss) and told off Sam (his other boss). Just a little too intense. I still love his adorable self, though.

Officer Manly is cute, but I'm still on Team Pete, though I'm fine with no Addison/Pete in the immediate future.

Cooper/Pete/Sam on the beach was cute. But shouldn't Maya at least be watching and pretending she was working on the project, too?

Dell & Naomi do not work! He is like a child compared to her! I get sick just seeing it! Bring someone in or something for him -- have him move on!! Maybe hire an intern or something or a younger employee to help there and then have him someone else if he has to have someone in the office and end this horrible attempted coupling! They look so ridiculous together!

I like Addison's new cop. I wasn't a big Gilmore Girls fan, but I like him on here and I like the fact that Pete is taking notice. I like Pete & Addison together and think it should be them in the end, but for right now, dragging it on will make it more interesting in my opinion.

Wasn't Dell originally conceived in the 'pilot' to just be eye candy? They should have left it at that - he must have a good agent to have convinced the producers to attempt to flesh out his character, because I agree that this love crush thing is so rediculous and stupid it's FAR worse than Gizzie - and enough to make me switch the channel. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I so want to like this show, but why can't it just rise up to its pedigree?

I disagree w/all of yall. DELL & NAOMI ARE HOT. Why is it that if it is an older woman & a younger man together, shes MOTHERING HIM. Did any of yall say the same when it is an older man & younger woman. Did yall say the same thing when it was Violet's ex & Cami. Cami was much younger then Violet's ex.

Dell is EXACTLY what Naomi needs right now. A man who won't hurt her & who TRULY WILL FIGHT FOR HER. Sam DIDN'T FIGHT FOR HIS MARRIAGE. It was easier for him to end it then to save it. Now he is ready to fight. PLEASE! Dell has it together so much more then Sam.

DELL IS A MAN.

This show has got to slow the hell down. That fertility thing in real life just would not have happened like that - and it doesn't feel right on the show. They keep bringing in scenarios that just simply need to play out over weeks and weeks of storytelling. The whole Dell/Sam thing needs to slow down. The Dad class needs to slow down. And the Dell/Naomi thing could work with different actors who had some chemistry. It would have been better left as a puppydog crush. Right now it's even creepier than Gizzie.

I watch this show for one reason only - and that's to feast my eyes on Tim Daly! I'll torture myself with this show just to watch him. After Eyes and The Nine getting cancelled (both of which were far superior shows), I'll take him while I can get him!

Hey Charlotte,
Please thin the accent a bit. It works against you. Now don't get upset I've lived in the South all my life and have heard many Southern accents but Charlotte's is too tangy.

Maybe she reminds me of an old girlfriend.

The producers are missing a golden opportunity with Dell. I think Dell should get a girlfriend his own age. He falls hard for her and then she breaks his heart. The women in the office will see how nice, sensitive guys can also be victims. Especially if the office women are going through a "hate men" phase. Can you imagine Dell being so upset over the his break up that he breaks down and cries in Naomi's arms.

It would also be good for the men in the office to see Dell's heartbreak as a reminder what they were like at his age.

Being from the South and living in the South I have never noticed her accent. I know that TV is not reality, but if I were Sam and Dell tells me what he did, two words, "You're Fired!!!". Naomi just runs the practice with Sam. "I am through with Dell," would really be, "Dell has to go!"

Gad - David Sutcliffe seems to play the same dull character over and over and over again - for the life of me I can't see the appeal of this man - he has no spark, he is as unanimated and dull in every role I've ever seen in him. I guess he is probably attractive for some - but, man, it would be great to have a really interesting character show up on this show - a mature, interesting, quirky guy would really stand out in this sea of, to me, immature "adults."

Excuse me but Dell has always had a crush on Naomi and she's always been aware of it--dating back to the pilot episode. I believe then Naomi told Dell that nothing would happen between them but she needs to restate that fact to him and make it clear that his job is on the line if he can't behave appropriately. Although why should Dell be different from anyone else in that office (all of whom are older and more experienced). And the writers have already been expanding Dell's character by having him study to be a midwife and not just remain the office manager.
Sam and Naomi have obviously not dealt with the problems that caused their divorce in the first place (Naomi mentions something and Sam glosses over it) so I'm not rooting for their 'second chance' if it just about sex-with-the-ex.
I like Peter (love Daly) but he doesn't know what he wants either--he doesn't make a move on Addison (by going to her house) until he realizes that she's interested in dating someone else. And hooray for David Sutcliffe coming on--they may not be couple material but Addison needs to stop fretting and have some fun.
And I agree, those doctors seem to have a LOT of free time.

I think the Deloami coupling would work if they had an actor that looked like he was actually in his twenties. This guys is supposed to be in his twenties but he looks like he's seventeen so the coupling just doesn't work. She looks too much older than him.

Samoami doesn't work because he's trying too hard suddenly. Just because he feels threatened by Dell? I don't think so. Dell can't hold a candle to Sam. Sam should just back off, he divorced Naomi and he knows she's still in love with him. If he's not willing to go all the way with this then he should just back off.

I love the guy that plays the cop but I hate seeing him play the same character again like he did in Gilmore Girls. I don't want to see him get hurt again and that's where they are headed with this storyline.

The thing that bothered me about the old man fight club is that Dell's father felt guilty when his friend got hurt but the whole reasoning behind the fight club was so they didn't feel like they were waiting to die and they are all old enough to know that getting hurt is a possibility. He shouldn't have felt guilty because they were all doing what they wanted to do.

The storylines did move quickly but the pregnancy storyline moved quickly because she was ovulating and they wanted to get pregnant as soon as possible. Speaking as a person over 35 that would also like to get pregnant, if the opportunity is there and you can afford it you move on it as soon as possible. Would have been nice if they at least talked insurance company payments though. And the other reason it could move so quickly is that these doctors really have nothing to do anyway.

The baby class. It's ridiculous to think that she had her class and roster completely set up and ready to start and he called everyone, convinced them to come to his class and pay him the same amount of money in a day. Please! Not to mention that him and Pete were completely not prepared to teach that class.

This show needs a lot of work, hopefully it will pick up after the strike is over.

Watching yesterday's show I thought I finally stumbled on what is wrong with this show. Then I came to read this and it all but confirmed it.

The problem is that the show is desperate to set up these triangles but they just aren't working. I have no interest in seeing Addison end up with Pete, Cooper and Violet don't work for me and (as pointed out a lot above) Naomi and Dell are just wrong.

The show's still a lot of fun (and I do love Cooper and Carlotte) but the relationship side just isn't keeping pace with the rest of the show.
