Episode Recap: "In Which We Meet Addison, a Nice Girl from Somewhere Else"
Thank God my anticipation for this show didn't ruin the first episode for me. I was afraid I put a hex on the show by hyping it so much in my head. Sure, at first I wanted Addison to stay in Seattle and in Karev's arms, but I think I'm going to like her "one-man gyne show" in L.A.!
I didn't think I was going to laugh when Sam saw Addison naked because it had been all over the commercials, but I did. She did the robot! Anyone doing the robot is hilarious, at least in my book.
Overall, I felt this show had a different vibe than Grey's Anatomy. I liked that it was not set in a hospital and the conversations and issues were more grown-up and less petty. Don't get me wrong, I love my Grey's, but this new dynamic was refreshing. But, of course, it did mimic the wacky medical situations that seem to come out of nowhere. Addison will be delivering a three-headed baby in no time!
I enjoyed the intense relationships that already exist between the characters and look forward to the new ones that are developing. Naomi and Sam still love one another, and their work relationship will make for some great drama throughout the course of the show. No matter what, they seem to have each other's backs.
I also found the friendship between Addison and Naomi interesting. I sympathized with Naomi when she confessed to Addison that she needed a "someone." I wondered if the fact that they hadn't spoken for so long would play a part in the show at all. Could they really pick up where they left off when so much has changed in their lives? Well, so far, so good on that front.
So did Pete really think Addison moved to L.A. because he kissed her? Or was he just being flirty with her? I'd move to L.A. if Tim Daly kissed me. I'd move to L.A. to dance a naked robot for Taye Diggs, too. OK, maybe not. The point is that Addison seemed to have good chemistry with both of these guys. Could a Sam/Addison pairing ever happen?
Despite the almost unreal medical situations, the mini-stories in tonight's episode weren't completely ridiculous. I liked how Violet and Cooper teamed up to help Crazy Counter get to the bottom of her problem. Addison and Pete kicked butt and took names with the teenage mom, and Naomi and Sam managed to get a dead guy's widow to give permission to take his sperm so the dead guy's mistress could have his baby. Phew!
Well I'm happy, but how about you? Do you think this spin-off will go the way of Melrose Place or Joey? And how do you feel about the new Naomi, played by Audra McDonald? Just a few things to chat about during the long week ahead until the next episode. See you then!

I thought when Michael A. and Matt R. were expressing their disappointment in this first episode that they had to be wrong. Unfortunately they weren't. I really disliked this and I actually liked the 2-hour episode in May. It's going to take some convincing for me to tune in again - there's so much good on right now, this isn't on par with Chuck or Reaper, whose premieres were excellent. I'm disappointed because I wanted it to be good, I like Kate Walsh.

I liked this episode better than the "pilot" in May, all except for the end scene when Addison has her little monologue about "putting her foot down." Silly. I didn't think it was horrible like some reviewers have said. It wasn't great, but this has some promise.
It doesn't hurt that Kate Walsh is luminous ... and Tim Daly is yummy ... and Amy Brenneman is fascinating ... and Paul Adelstein is sweet ... and Taye Diggs has a great smile. I didn't really like Audra; she seemed "hard" to me, and I thought the surfer dude was sorta petulant. But I'll tune in next week.

I didn't like the new Audrey as much, but everything else in this pilot was a treat.

I have to say it bored me. I couldn't even make it through the first half hour and had to turn it to Criminal Minds.
I'll give it one more shot but I'm not expecting much.

I'll give it a few more chances, but I don't like the sunny California hip and trendy medical facility vibe. It's unauthentic and not the kind of show I like. Something that glossy is more fitting to a comedy in my opinion. And the dancing scene at the begining of the show, with Addison in a towel - silly and embarassing.

What, what, what happened to the original Naomi? I must have missed the announcement that she had been replaced, and I loved the original. She took me back to the good ole Alias days. But on another note, I enjoyed the show. I love the actors and I think that helps me to like the show a little more, Amy Brenneman alone will make me watch this show. I would love to see Addison and Sam get together, but that would make for a story line much like what she had on Grey's except now she would be that "other" woman.

I was so looking forward to this show, as I am a huge Addison fan, and boy, was I disappointed. I thought the way the medical cases were handled was completely unbelievable, especially teen pregnant girl. Gee, no one ever mentioned the family history with problems (like death!) when the mom was pregnant? It takes so long for an ambulance to get to the clinic that the docs have time to do major surgery, even though Addison had to stop and talk herself into it? Jeez, this isn't outer Mongolia with the ambulance drawn by yak, people! I also didn't like Audra McDonald, strangely enough, because usually I am a big fan of hers, but I thought Marin Dungey (?) from the pilot had much more chemistry with the other actors. What did I like? Paul Adelstein. I love him as an actor and I think Cooper is the most charming and least abrasive person at the clinic. I will give Private Practice a few more weeks of viewing, but for now, I am not impressed or happy with the show. YMMV.

I enjoyed the show but had a hard time accepting the new Naomi. I really thought there was a believeable friendship between Addison and the original Naomi in the pilot. All in all though, I will enjoy watching this show and was not disappointed.

Bad reviews kept my expectations low which good as the show was better than I thought.
I can do without a medical crisis though - I'd prefer the stories be about interesting patients instead.

What a mish mash of an episode. I got dizzy trying to follow all the plotlines. Were they afraid that if each doctor did not get face time, the audience would be upset. Kate Walsh is a beauty and she looks like a fighter, but the others seems to be cookie cutouts of other shows. I hope Kate has a clause to get back to Greys in the event of failure.

As I told my sister after she chastised me for watching the show- as long as you come in not expecting anything profound and brilliant and just want to get away for an hour, it's a pretty decent show. That said, I love Kate Walsh and I'd probably watch her read the phone book. I'm not really sure how I felt about Audra- as someone mentioned she definitely played the role "harder" and seemed more hurt and angry about the divorce. But as a complete theatre geek, I'm willing to give her a chance to find her footing.

I absolutely hated it. I almost couldn't watch. Why does Addison always sound as if she has phlegm in the back of her throat? And she's developed a stutter a la Ally McBeal and I just couldn't take it! I've already cancelled it on my dvr. But I did think Cooper was a cool character. He was the only one I liked.

I am not a fan yet, but I am going to tune in for a few more episodes in hopes that it gets better. I'm loyal to Addison because I thought her character was so misunderstood even if she was an adulterous bitch. And she was so fabulous and after the divorce, the only times she really stood out was in scenes with Callie because those two are awesome together. I love Kate Walsh. I think she's gorgeous and awesome and I really hope this works out for her. I haven't lost faith for the show yet. I think it has a lot of potential.

Love Addison! Liked the Tim Daly character (always liked T.D.). New Naomi different but good. However, Violet storyline was so bad I almost changed the channel. Did anyone notice Moon Unit Zappa was the Crazy Counter? And a world-class neonatal surgeon would NOT be tolerant of a no surgical set-up practice - hello, she is a surgeon! Overall I will keep watching and hope it starts to gel a little better.
