Episode Recap: "In Which Addison Finds a Showerhead"
News flash: Women in Connecticut don't pleasure themselves! OK, maybe just Addison. But since she's just a character on a television show, I guess I should take back the above generalization.
How funny was Violet's William Jefferson Clinton fantasy? Of all people! It just goes to show you, all women have something or someone that gets their motor going. I'm a Milo Ventimiglia kind of gal myself and his Heroes superpowers definitely add a fun element to my daydreams. Who is your fantasy man? Post below and share with us all!
It was kind of nice that Addison and Pete were open about their mutual attraction to one another and we almost saw a kiss. Addison was good — for now — and walked out with a nice mental image to take home to her showerhead: cowboy/gladiator Tim Daly. I liked that thought! We even got to see a glimpse when he socked the runner's coach in the face! Well deserved. Now I was not blessed with a remarkable physical talent like running or walking briskly but I understood Nicole's desperation to achieve her dream. If I were her, maybe I would have taken that "snake oil," too. Sadly, the coach she trusted was just as desperate as she was to succeed and jeopardized her health so she could compete. Now she can never compete again.
Cooper actually showed signs of maturity tonight. In the first few episodes he came off as a player with no common sense, but the character has grown. I thought he handled the Violet/Alan situation very well. He voiced his concerns and gave some tough love to Violet when she needed it. He was right to tell her he was done being there for her if she was just going to keep setting herself up for failure with Alan. I was glad it didn't take her long to see that she was back in the same old cycle and patched things up with Cooper. He so loves her. Awww!
Up until tonight, I didn't realize there was a drug used with Katrina victims that helped lessen the fear of their traumatic experiences. I find that scary. Obviously the victims need all the help they can get to cope but I hope they aren't used unless it is an extreme circumstance. Messing with the mind can be a dangerous thing. On the other hand, if something traumatic happened to me, I'm not sure if I'd be able to deal with it. It's very sad that there is a need for those kinds of drugs.
Did anyone else think Sam's patient was a victim of spousal abuse up until the end? I don't know why but something didn't feel right about that situation. At the end when I realized she really was attacked by a stranger, I couldn't help but think the storyline fell flat. It was certainly a terrible ordeal but her desperation to use drugs to help her forget so her husband could feel better about leaving her alone felt unreal to me. But I've never been in a situation like that so what do I know? I just thought they could have found a better storyline to go along with the use for those drugs.
I hope I'm not the only one who was fooled by Maya and her friend, Ruby. Bravo, writers. I must be getting old but when Maya said she wasn't a kid anymore, I wanted to scream! I remember what it's like to feel that at 13. Now I know how wrong I really was. It's a shame that their immaturity hindered them from recognizing a dangerous situation. Addison said Ruby's gonorrhea was advanced so she must have been sick for a long time. It probably even contributed to her ectopic pregnancy. Why is it still so hard for children to go to their parents about sex? Why is it hard for parents to talk to their kids about sex? I think this storyline is an example of why we need to, no matter what your moral standpoint is on the issue. It is possible to arm kids with the knowledge they need to make sure they don't end up in a situation like this and still advocate abstinence if that is your personal belief. If it's on TV, I'm sure there is a parent out there who has had to deal with a problem like Ruby's. Let's not let it be you!
If you were Naomi, what would you have said to Addison? Part of me understood why Naomi was furious that Addison didn't come to her when she thought it was Maya who was having sex. Then I remembered what Cooper said about confidentiality laws. That's a tough call. I think I would have kept the secret and tried to help her get back on track. As a former teenager, I know I listened to licensed professionals more than my own mother (sorry Mom!). Still, Addison was right to suggest that Naomi talk to Maya about sex. It also made a good topic for a Sam/Naomi scene in which they realized they were neglecting the sex talk. I'm sure many great parents find themselves in similar situations.
Wow, this show is bringing up some great topics! Teen sex, homosexuality, self love, happy paps... how great was that? I'd hate to burst Dell's bubble, but since he's not a woman, he could never know that there is no such thing as a happy pap. I look forward to seeing more of his "gynergy" in the future. Now there is a made-up word worthy to stand next to vajajay!

This show is slowly making Tim Daly more of a fantasy man for me! Wow, I loved the pushups scene! That man is sexy! But the one I think of fantasy man is George Eads from CSI. I drool everytime he comes on the screen and my husband is perfectly fine with that! LOL
I liked the Ruby/Maya twist too. I was really glad it was like that, at least for Naomi's sake. Loved the Dell scenes!!! Love Chris Lowell!! I have loved him since Piz on Veronica Mars! He is funny! Loved his speech and when he was trying to convince the girl he wasn't cute!! That was funny!
I thought something more was up with the woman who was attacked too and I was hoping for this big twist here too, so I was glad at least for the Maya one. That one kind of stalled and burned. I would've went ahead with the kissing Pete at least if I was Addison -- of course if Tim Daly was standing there looking so goodlooking, you'd be dumb to walk out. I'm not saying she has to go further, just pacify yourself at least for that moment, maybe do it like so many days to fight the need! LOL

Yeah...Tim Daly, especially as a cowboy/gladiator, is a pretty good fantasy man. He's holding up well.
The cast was working really well tonight. I loved seeing the characters interact outside of their normal pairs. Violet/Sam, Cooper/Pete beer talk, Cooper/Addison consulting. And Dell was being all hilarious. "No, I'm ugly. I have moles in weird places."

Have any viewers who didn't like this show changed their minds yet? I'm so glad I gave this show a chance.
I've been "in love" with Tim Daly for years and years, so this is nothing new for me. YUM! Tonight he made my heart flutter anew. I'm so glad we get to see Addison's dreams. That way we get the sexual tension of her daytime life and the real thing in her dreams!! Ahhhhh.
I thought the happy pap story was cute, but you're definitely right, Krista........there ain't no such thing!!!

Im sorry but this show still isnt cutting it for me. Its like they have taken half of the Greys Anatomy writers and just shifted them over, leaving both shows a bit flat in my opinion. My problem with this show- the teenage girls. Can we all remember back to the wonderful season two and so so season three of Greys? The middle school girls who threw a baby in the school bathroom trashcan? And how about Cristina with her dramatic entopic pregnancy when she collapsed on the surgical floor? Tonight reminded me of both of those but was not nearly on par with them. Private Practice needs to find some new stories or get off the air!

I hope those of you who don't like the show but are continuing to watch will stick with it. If nothing else, we can use the ratings.

I don't know about anyone else but I am enjoying Private Practice more than Grey's. I have liked the show from the beginning. I enjoy watching the dynamic, sexual or otherwise, between all the characters. I would like to see them do more with Taye Diggs' character, he seems somewhat one dimensional to me. People have been critical about how pathetic Violet and her obsession with her ex is but if everyone was honest with themselves, we all have a little bit of Violet in us! Overall though I think both the cast and the storylines on this show are great and they definitely have me hooked.

Yes, I definitely like Private Practice better now than I did at the beginning. The last two shows have really changed my mind. There were quite a few funny parts last night that I had to rewind and watch again. Dell and lady who did NOT want him poking around in her "Lady Town" - and Dell's response about respecting her "Lady Town" - priceless! LOL
Yeah, I'm looking forward to more of this show now. And Tim Daly?! Hot, Hot, HOT! I think he'd look nice in leather chaps... LOL

I have liked this show from the start but thought tonight episode was the best so far. I really liked the Maya storyline. Very real. This show just keeps getting better.

A certain flyboy (even though he doesn't... yet...) on another network gets me smiling...
Been a fan of Tim Daly's since Wings.
More Taye Diggs... PLEASE!
I figured out pretty quick that Maya was lying and was trying to get the pills for someone else... didn't see the pregnancy coming though... nice twist. Addison was in a tough spot, but if Maya isn't talking to her mom she needs to have an adult she does trust and Addison not saying anything prevented Maya from feeling alienated and betrayed. As a mom I see Naomi's point, but she should be thankful that 1) it wasn't Maya and 2) IF it had been at least Maya called someone with expertise and didn't just stay quiet completely... again... tough call.
Enjoying the show.... We didn't know much about Addy on Grey's except that she was Derek's wife/ex and had an affair with Sloan and was an expert in her field.... she might have been kooky on that show but we only saw her professional side and she was used as a foil for the Mer/Der relationship.... give Private Practice a chance....we have a lot more to learn about the characters. Based on the "backdoor" pilot who would have guessed the depth of Pete's pain and his wife??? Just a thought.

I won't say that I love this show because I reserve that kind of emotion for exceptional shows and Private Practice isn't there yet. But, I enjoy it more than Grey's and it's become a must watch each week.
I think Violet grew the most this week. Her "You don't get to walk away from me this time" line was perfect. She's still completely messed up but you can see the slow realization of that her connection with Cooper is more than friendship. Tonight's ! moment for Violet was when they said the same word, at the same time in conversation. I hope they don't drag this dancing around each other out. I have faith that they won't based on Grey's track record.
The Great Chemistry Award goes to Kate Walsh and Tim Daly. OMG! They absolutely light up the screen. This one they can drag out, especially if they continue with the fantasy scenes and the scene at the end where they almost kissed. Good lord, I didn't need the Cowboy/Gladiator Tim Daly visual but I'm thrilled I have it nonetheless.
I do have one major issue with this episode: If Addison is one of the best neonatal/gyn doctors in the country then she would have been able to tell that Maya was still 'a girl' which I guess is tv speak for virgin. Of course, that would have lessened the dramatic tension of Addison fretting about her 13 year old psuedo neice having sex so young. But, I lost a bit of respect for their medical realism, not that they ever had that much to begin with. But, this is a glaring mistake to me.

Well I definitely enjoyed last nights episode immensely! I thought that it had all the spark of a Grey's first season episode. I've been watching Grey's from the very beginning and when they announced Private Practice I admit I was a little skeptical, but I have to say that it has been growing on me each week and after last night's episode i'm hooked! Loved the chemistry between Tim Daly and Kate Walsh...this is a whole season 1 Mer/Der in the making. Love love love Chris Lowell talking about "Happy Paps" too funny...i'm glad he found a good fit in a new show, i've loved him since Veronica Mars. Is anyone else out there in LOVE with Cooper? I think it is so sweet the way he takes care of Violet, but seeing him last night giving her tough love was awesome. You could see how much he loves her and how much he wants her to get over Alan so that one day he can admit his feelings to her. PS...I think she's figuring it out . I didn't care for the attacked woman's storyline. I also thought that she was attacked by her husband until Violet talked to her and made her tell what happened, but to me that storyline wasn't all that great. All in all i'd say this is the best episode so far this season!
PS...as far as fantasy men go, for me it's David Boreanaz. He's been my man since Buffy and Angel, and now that I can see him every week on Bones the fantasy is even better!

I loved tonight's ep!! LOVED IT!! Can someone please tell me if the girl who played Maya is really Audra's daughter? If not, man, that's GREAT casting!! They looked a LOT alike. I think Audra's daughter is younger though...oh well...
Anyhoo, loved the Maya/Ruby storyline. It goes to show that parents from all economic levels/backgrounds, etc have trouble talking to their kids about sex, but it needs to be done. I agree with Krista, kids need 2 b armed w/ this information in order to prevent a million and one diseases/pregnancies, etc. Parents, PLEASE talk to your kids about sex!!! I was on Addison's side on this one but can totally understand why Naomi would be hurt & angry by Addison's decision. Note to self: Never get on Audra's bad side. That look she gave Maya was cringeworthy and very "mommy-like". Brrrrr!!!!
I LOVED the "ladytown" reference!! I think that's just as good as "vajayjay". I wasn't digging the "gynergy". I'm surprise Addie didn't welcome Dell to the "gynie squad". But are Addie & Pete a hot item or what?? Muy caliente!!!
Violet & Coop need to get together & pronto! I just love Amy Brenneman and I love Violet, as neurotic as she is. She did some growing up today too -- as did Coop. Good for them.
About the woman (Sam's patient), I thought she had been raped. I thought that was her secret. While I wouldn't necessarily taken the same approach she did (in regards to the hubby), I totally understand her reaction.

Since you are polling for fantasies let me ask something? How many of you out there work in a place where: 1] the sexual banter is so blatant? 2] If people aren't in each other's pants they sure are close? 3] You work in a field that is so involved with the clients.
Pap Smear #2 - how many women would have that conversation with the male nurse. "Do you WANT TO touch me?" Come on.
I thought the husband was an abuser. That relationship needs work. For sure!
I respect Addy for risking friendship to keep Maya a secret, at least for the time she did. I am not a proponent of free birth control to middle school children, but this episode was a perfect chance for families to sit down and talk about why sex is for adults. It is too bad so much of the rest of the episode would need to be redacted. I mean do you want to talk about shower heads, on the other hand.
