Episode Recap: "In Which Addison Finds the Magic"
Well I don't know about you but I won't be eating cake anytime soon. And that stinks because I really like cake. Not sure how I feel about Dell trying to win Naomi's affections through his grandmother's baked goods but I do know what it's like to want an "in" with someone you care about. He's definitely barking up the wrong tree though and she really gave it to him in the end. Poor Naomi. I want to feel bad for her but she's really just wallowing in her own misery. Why won't she try to reconnect with Sam?
And more Taye Diggs please! Not nearly enough Sam scenes tonight.
Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but I don't recall ever learning the reason for their split. Shout it out in the comments if I missed something. If I didn't miss it, I want to find out!
But back to the wallowing. Wow how old was that message Violet kept listening to? Watching her try to help Sad Sack all the while knowing what a "weak" person she is in love as well was scary. If it's one thing Dr. Melfi on The Sopranos taught us it's that even shrinks need shrinks every now and then. Violet needs to find one. And fast!
Sad Sack's wife was the lady from Herman's Head! I loved that show. I couldn't tell you details from even one episode but I know I liked it. I think.
The newlywed storyline worked but the blue children situation kind of fell flat with me. The fertilizer poisoned them because they were around the toxic fumes so much, leading me to believe they had to be playing in their secret den a lot! How long were these children out of the yard and out of their mother's care? She never noticed that all four children were gone? Cooper was wrong about it not being negligence. She should hire that nanny back.
I felt bad for the virgin. All that waiting and when she was finally ready to let go her hoohah didn't cooperate. If the Private Practice writers were trying to recreate the vajajay phenomenon with hoohah I think they came up short. Just putting that out there.
But I liked how Pete and Addison paired up to help them get their magic, despite their lack of faith that magic really exists. Why does Addison work so hard to push him away? She didn't seem to have trouble getting into relationships back in Seattle. It looked like Pete had his own relationship drama. The scenes at the grave were very telling. Geez, this practice is full of people with issues. It's a good thing they can heal others because no one seems to be able to heal themselves.
Is it bad that the entire show is full of people with problems? Don't we need someone with a stable existence? I understand the need for drama but I don't want to drown in it. Maybe I'm searching for things that are wrong with this show because I want to make it better. If I take a step back, though, I see that I'm enjoying it. I guess it's like Pete said, nothing is perfect.

If I recall - I believe the reason Sam and whats-her-face divorced was left rather vague to begin with. In the pilot episode he mentioned something about just not wanting to be married anymore. Nothing specific was sited though. Sounded like some weak mid-life crisis.
The show is slowly improving. I agree with you about everyone having issues. There is nothing to balance them out. I too believe someone stable is much needed in this mix.

Hey Krista and tvbee I believe Sam said that he didn't want to be married anymore and/or felt he wasn't enough for her. However, I got the impression from last week's episode that Naomi did not fight for their relationship implying to me that the passion was going down hill. I do hope they get back together and if not Naomi and Cooper will make a cute couple. Copper clearly wants her and I love how he said he will continue to give her cake.
I was more interested in the 2 married couples problems then the blue children. I think its sad that the man stayed with his mean wife he needed to leave her when she called him a weakling. I loved how the married couple came to the office the next day and told Pete and Addison they loved them. One more happy customer.
I wish they would do a flashback to explain how Pete can stay marry to a woman like that who seemed to be like the Sad Sack's wife times 10. Who will kill their husbands dog?? ">
I am beginning to like this show more and more. The show is like and not like Grey's which is probably why I enjoy it. I get my double dose of night soap opera so I am happy either way.
Opinion: What if Callie left Grey's and came to Private Practice would that make the show more interesting? Think about it..Callie and Sam scenes??

As a long and loyal Grey's addict, I have been sticking with this show in hopes that Shonda and the brilliant Kate Walsh would pull it together. Tonight, I saw the glimpses of what I've been waiting for. First, in spite of the crazy medical drama which turned me off last week, this week it tied into the story lines--making Addison and Pete connect, making Cooper find a more human (i.e. not stripper oriented) side, and allowing Naomi to admit her feelings for Sam. Sure they're just glimpses of magic, but i'm ready to stick with it. Despite the shows' shortcomings thus far, it is fantastic to see Addison in a leading role (finally!. She is single-handedly keeping this show afloat and interesting. ). I hope for even more, and tonight's episode gave me reason for that hope. btw, Sam and Naomi broke up because he gave up and she didn't fight. Looks like loneliness and unwanted advances are making her start to fight. I for one and am excited for more from 'Private Practice'. As a side note, i sense a Cooper-Violet connection before a Pete-Addison one...

Wow. I really don't think I can stomach this show anymore! Stereotypical cake swarming from the women... "hoohah"... smurf children? I knew this show had to becomemuch better than the pilot to hold my interest, and it's just not cutting it.

I think I like Addison's character enough to see what kind of scrapes she's going to go through each week. Out of all the characters from Grey's she's the one that deserved to stand on her own. I know we'd all been wondering where Sam and Naomi's daughter has been and I'm glad to see they didn't leave her behind.
Had this show run without Addison, I would have stopped watching a long time ago. She brings much needed energy to this group.

I think it's good that Addison's not rushing into things with Pete and kind of pushing it away. I think she wanted to prove to herself she could stand on her own and that she wasn't just moving there to meet new men. I liked that in Addison on Grey's, too, when she was strong and independent without having to sleep with every man she saw or keep going back to the wrong ones. I like the interactions, flirtations, etc., so eventually it will probably happen, but I like when it's slow and not forced into so then it develops better and doesn't just full pushed or more soap opera oriented.
The situation with Sam/Naomi has been kind of vague -- just kind of grew out of love is what I got of it (or at least out of the passion). He got bored and she didn't fight for the relationship and didn't want to try, so they just lost the spark I'm assuming. Not much more has been said. I don't like the Dell hintings of his attraction to her. He looks way too young for her and they need to shift him in another direction. I like the midwife part of his character better.
I'm still liking the show though and not going anywhere. I liked Addison on Grey's, so I'll continue to watch. But like someone said above, I think Callie would be a terrific addition to PP. I liked how she bonded with Addison and they actually developed a good friendship on Grey's -- it was different and unexpected. Not sure I could see her with Sam though like someone said, but I think she would be great -- but I'd watch Sara R. on about anything!

With Sam and Naomi, as I recall, to use the buzzword for this episode, the 'magic' was no longer there. And I am really bored with Naomi wallowing instead of wooing Sam back - how fun would that be to watch? We could all vicariously live the wooing of the delicious Taye Diggs! Is it just me or does Cooper not simply look at, but gaze lovingly upon Violet? I am going to assume that he is just waiting for her to be over Allen, reluctant to be the rebound guy. As for Addison…treating people you are attracted to didn’t work so well in the past. Is this woman EVER going to learn from her experiences or just keep having the same ones over and over? I’ll keep watching because I do like Kate Walsh and would watch any show that has Tim Daly in it.

This show started out a little weak, but I think it is getting much better. I like Kate Walsh and think she is great as the leading lady. However, I'm not sure I would love this show as much without Tim Daly and Paul Adelstein. IMO, they truly make the show enjoyable. Not only are they both gorgeous, they are very talented actors. The 2nd scene with Pete at his wife's grave was amazing. Of course, I could watch Tim Daly read the phone book.

I have never watched this show and have been an occasional Grey's watcher. I have always enjoyed the Addison character (and loved Kate Walsh on the Drew Carrey show) and continued to enjoy her on this show. I must agree with another poster how stereotypical the depiction of woman seems to be on this show. Three chics eating cake talking about "magic". I don't think people in the real world have this much time to waste on conversation like this. At least not in my world. Like last night, I might try to continue flipping back and worth between this and Gossip Girl so I will have some refernce for blogs the next morn but overall I would not be upset if I missed either show.

Watching Private Practice is becoming very chore-like. I watch Pushing Daisies too, so I'm in this happy place at the end. Sadly the happy place being didn't last through Private Practice.
Thankfully there was less of KaDee Strickland's character.
My favorite character has been decided. It's Cooper. When he showed up in pink at the girls' house, I couldn't help but laugh..which continued through to the "castle".
None of the stories interested me this week. I just kept on going "who cares". I think that maybe once I've gone "who cares" about a patient on GA.
I did like Audra McDonald slightly more this week. She wasn't as hard as she's been in the past.
As for Addison, dear, sweet Addison, she needs to move back to Seattle or some place wher she can use her skills. I constantly felt like yelling at her that she felt no "magic" because she couldn't use her skills. So far the only thing she's done using her surgical skills was the girl in the first episode of the season. Other than that she's sorted through files, a fairly routine (except for the pain sensitivity) gynecological exam, and administered some shots. I'd be clawing at the walls and going stir crazy if I were her.
Shonda and Co. please wow me! I want to be wowed. I want to have another great TV show to look forward to. Don't disappoint me!
BTW, I hate how they title the episodes!

Can I just say how much I adore Paul Adelstein??? He's wonderful. I loved his bad guy in Prison Break and I LOVE him being a regular guy in this show! He was so sweet with those little girls. I like the show, but I love him - so I'm going to keep watching

PP is an acceptable filler for that slot, besides my wife won't let me watch Bionic WOman and Life, she's now warming to Life which has a quirky side to it.
Back the Practice - Allison will never use her talent unless she is admitted to that hospital and they use it more then have the Chief be a bitchy disgruntled hack. I think she is ticked off because she wasn't invited to join the new-Age practice. I mean regardless of smurf-like kids would you be still at Oceanside Clinic if the doctor told you your kid might not make it. Why didn't she take her daughter to the ER and when all the kids turn blue it was another sign this mother was negligent.
Naomi and Sam - my take was Sam said he felt the magic wasn't there so Naomi in righteous indignation ended the relationship. I recall Sam was willing to go to counseling. Its a case of dumper's remorse.
Private Practice is getting better, especially when we learn about the docs and not their patients.

Well this was probably the best of the episodes. Not great but I did laugh a few times. Kate Walsh is great. I love how she mumbles under her breath, that is real. Naomi and Violet are a mess, someone needs to fix them pronto and that might make the show better. I love Dell and he can bring me baked goods anytime, I'll eat his cake
