Episode Recap: "Hell or High Water"

OK, so that was a decent little twist Michael had in his back pocket, expecting that T-Bag or the like would muscle ahead in line and insist on exiting the tunnel first. I wonder, though, was that the plan regardless ? What if no one cut in line? Because frankly, Plan B was all kinds of loosey-goosey and relied so much on chance. (Though not nearly as much as a later plot device.) Plan B actually was... boring, considering it was from Michael's crafty cranium. Roll under the jeeps conveniently parked near the hole, then sprint for the compromised fencing? Yawn. And we didn't even get to see it!

Moving on....

Sucre, you sure chose a lousy pseudonym. "Jorge Rivera"? Not to profile, but if only because of the Panamanian setting doesn't that moniker seem likely to net a high return rate on a background check? (Yes, the previlance of the John Doe equiavelnt is probably what drew him to it, I suppose.) The poor lunk was just about to break free of his cuffs when T-Bag ("No need to refry my beans!") fingered him as one of the Oceanic Sona Six. Bad luck gloms onto that guy!

Fortunately, good luck showers upon Luis' papa, who seized Sucre's rented boat and somewhat miraculously found the boys on the buoy. Must have been some tiny body of water they were adrift in, though it looked rather expansive from the beach.

So we get back to dry land, and rather than simply make the exchange on Susan B.'s terms, the boys make a run for it — seemingly putting LJ's life in jeopardy. (Have her steely eyes not registered "ruthless drone" with anyone?!) Later, we get to the shack, where the tape-recorded gunshots (finally) finally come into play. "Learn that from Home Alone?" "You fell for it, bitch." Love it.

More in the morning....

I knew Michael must've had some plan up his sleeve--he was too eager to let the others go first and didn't try too hard to argue with them about it. I am just wondering, though, if it was random who got caught--did Michael plan on it being Lechero, Bellick, and T-Bag that didn't make it out? Did he plan on it being just himself, Whistler, and Mahone on making it out (since Luis was a last minute addition, of course he wasn't planned on and there was no way Micahel would let him get caught)?

I was SO HAPPY when Mahone made it out! I've really grown fond of him this season. I haven't warmed up to Bellick yet, so I wasn't disappointed in him being left behind. I was holding my breath when Linc was pointing the gun at Mahone--I actually thought Linc was gonna shoot him! I was saying "no no no" and was relieved when Whistler made his exit before Linc could get off a shot. But I'm afraid he may still end up getting killed since he's listed in the opening credits as "with William Fichtner"

Another thing I was wondering is--does Whistler know who Mahone is? That he was the FBI agent who was hunting down the prisoners?? Seems to me he would be wondering how Linc knew Mahone.

I enjoyed seeing how much compassion Michael had for Luis. Especially after last episode when Micahel basically told Luis he wouldn't be responsible for him once they got out. Sure seemed to me Michael really took Luis under his wing and looked out for him. And you knew he truly cared about him when after Luis had already went with his dad he said he hoped Luis was ok.

what a great show people but maybe a little too much of the soldiers make t-bag talk. Doesn't Lechero need some kind of first aid or is called "last aid" in his case. Does anybody else think that Whistler looks like a young Harvey Keitel?
I hope to see him in another show soon...very good looking. Sucre would probably lose at Bingo too. All the actors so such a first-rate job. I loved the music while the boat was cruising along the water....very peaceful which this show is usually not.

I liked this episode. From the scenes of "Sona 6" getting out of the tunnel in time, to Sucre getting out of the hot seat before T-bag see's him,, and up to the car chase all had me on pins and needles. I should of known better that was all part of Michael plan. I was glad to find out what Linc had in that cooler that he buried at the beach, and what where the tape-recorded gunshots was for. But you gotta admit that was a clever plan. I also loved Gretchen to Linc "Learn that from Home Alone?" "You fell for it, bitch." Love it.

But my favorite line of the night was from T-bag: "No need to refry my
beans!"

And poor Bellick, he has been the punching bag on PB for the whole season. I wish he got his balls back that he lost from the first season.

I <3 Lincoln.... and, kind of off the subject, but it bothers me a lot... it's should have, not should of, though I do understand how it could be mistaken that way with the sound of the contraction should've.

Loved this episode. For me, it had the suspense that's been largely missing since the first season.

Emily, the "with William Fichter" in the opening credits is just a Hollywood thing and probably has no bearing on whether the actor will be around for next season or not. The Closer has been putting "with Jon Tenney" in the credits for 3 seasons now, and as far as I know, he's planning on sticking around as long as the show needs him.

Great episode! I wonder if next season (if there IS another season) will evolve around Michael trying to get Sucre out of Sona, since it seems like Sucre may be spending some time there, along with T-Bag and Bellick.

And whose idea was it to put Sucre in charge of such an important part of the plan anyway (i.e., getting the boat)? He always seems to screw up whatever task they give him to do! The guys put way to much faith in him, if you ask me.

Poor Bellick! I've felt so bad for him all season long. And T-Bag always has the best lines!

First episode I've watched and actually enjoyed since season 1. If they do get picked up for another season and as far as I know the ratings have stayed respectable throughout that they should get picked up again, I'd love if they would move on towards finding out who the company is and exposing it - they ruined Lincoln's life and were responsible for Sara's death; it would be a good motivator for the 2 of them. The whole prison break angle has been played out to death - going back to get Sucre is just beyond stupid at this point. And as far as a cast shake up, apart from Michael, Linc, LJ, Whistler, Mahone could be useful, I'd leave them in jail or whereever. Looking forward to the season finale, will Michael actually shoot Gretchen???

While I acknowledge I was wrong (and though the escape was more far fetched than the carefully planned one from Fox River), I really liked the fact that the story is following my feelings, especially my strongest one...I hate Lincoln. I enjoyed the parallels, Lincoln being mean and nasty to Whistler and Mahone and Michael, our hero, risking his own life to save various people along the way. I can't wait for the Michael finally stands up to Lincoln scene, I thought it might have come last night with Mahone and the gun. And, um, what is Whistler thinking? I am going to assume he is basically a good guy who cares about Sophia, I agree with his call of the situation that everyone is dead if they hand him over (and hello stupid Lincoln, do we not remember the three body bags for the first attempted escape?) but what is him not being around going to really do? And if he thinks knowing the codes is important, didn't he give half of them to Gretchen? And said once he was assured Michael, Lincoln, LJ and Sophia were safe he would give her the other half. What I am saying, can't he remember just the other half?

Michael...a sneaky one isn't he. I should have known he had something up his sleeve. I am so glad Luise (sp) got out. I just knew he was going to get shot in that bright red shirt. I am so glad Michael took care of him and protected him.

Sucre...poor guy cannot get a break. I am glad Mahone got away. I didn't want Lincoln to shoot him and I don't think Michael would have let him do it.

T-bag, very fortuitous to find the book with the coordinates in it. I am sure this will come in handy in the future. Yes, he does have the best lines.
I guess they are going to let Lechero bleed to death.

I knew that Whistler would back stab the guys. He cannot be trusted. We still don't know what was in the briefcase Sophia found, do we?

Let's talk about Gretchen's lip stick! What was the point? You could see her a mile away!!

I do hope she show is renewed. I like the idea of the guys figuring out who the company is and going after them.

A couple of things bugged me about this overall good episode...

1) Did they say how far they had to swim to get to the buoy? From the way they were carrying on with all the slipping under water and such, you'd think they had been swimming for hours. I felt like telling them - suck it up! A little swimming is nothing compared to what you have been through this season!

2) Why did they leave their shoes in the cooler on shore? Why didn't they bury them in the bushes or take them with them and let them go in the ocean where the guards wouldn't find them? The guards probably wouldn't have put two and two together about an empty cooler on the beach.

Otherwise, a good episode.
