Episode Recap: "Dirt Nap"

To those who didn't entirely care for the "tone" I (allegedly) had in last week's recap, please hear me when I say... that this week's episode was one of the best in a while! I really felt like a lot happened.

Sucre and Gretchen
AKA "Sugar." His and Linc's plot to pull a fast one on Gretchen was uncovered, but along the way we enjoyed some (what I saw to be) flirty banter from Ms. Anthony's direction. Alas, the cashier's check — which smelled fishy the moment we saw it (since when do bad guys not like to lug around greenbacks?) — led the Company to Sucre's Achilles Heel, Maricruz. But isn't she a Las Vegas casino hostess now, anyway? On a superficial note, I preferred Gretch's hair this week — not so sleek and straight and eeee-vil.

Lincoln and Sofia
Dominic Purcell has forever been teasing some hubba-hubba between these two, so I've been waiting, patiently, for a step in that direction. And then we got the Eiffel Tower tchotchke. Awwww. Our boy might actually be getting horizontal... someday. Then, just as Sofia starts washing that James out of her hair, she uncovers the old Metal Briefcase — dollars to donuts, it contains something "interesting," especially seeing as how it was produced just as Mahone speculated on Whistler's true vocation.

Bellick
AKA "Champ." You just knew that when he went scrambling for a new batch of acetone, he'd come up empty. Shoe polish?! 1) Would that knock someone out and 2) Why would someone in that squalid hellhole be shining their shoes?

Sammy
You punk . So glad your reign of power lasted about as long as a Lindsay Lohan jail stay. Sure, he could have been a formidable new patron , but c'mon, with that crew of goofballs at his side? The writing was on the wall. As for the form of his demise: saw it coming a mile away, but still most enjoyable. That said, were I a fellow inmate, at this point I'd be all, "Who is in charge here? I crave continuity of leadership!!"

Michael and the Gang
A part of me was so happy/nostalgic when T-Bag forced himself onto the escape crew, because it just seemed like ole times. I wanted Michael to say, "I've taken him with me once, why not do it again." That brings the group to, what, six? Michael, Whistler, Lechero, Mahone, T-Bag and Bellick. Perhaps seven, if the kid ultimately weasels his way in, as Sucre's portly cousin did just before the Fox River breakout. (And we all know how well that last-minute addition served the plan.)

So Michael has started on the route to No Man's Land, the unrest within Sona is under control, Linc seems to be on top of things on the outside, and Sofia seems thisclose to exposing James' true agenda/value to the Company. The "season" finale isn't far away — what is about to go very wrong now?

PS. Remember how utterly horrifying Michael's arrival at Sona was, in the last season finale? It was night, it was raining, it was really, really icky.... I know rain is hard to do, but why is every single Sona scene set in the daytime? That's what makes the place look more like a bad Motel 6 versus a prison for the worst of the worst.

Okay, I kept thinking 'Sucre, you schmuck.' Maybe if he had told Linc about Gretchen's cashier's check before he wired it off to Maricruz, Linc could have at least pointed out how fishy it was. And Sucre didn't manage to retrieve the bomb from Gretchen's car either, did he? Personally I say let Linc blow her up--what? she has henchmen watching Maricruz's every move? If Gretchen is in little pieces how could she give any orders if her own head is gone? (Okay, she's a villain I really love to hate if only because she's so smug.)
Yes! It was easy to see how Sammy was going to get his but still so satisfying. BTW, where did Michael's nice, clean blue long-sleeved sweater come from? He was looking tidy for a man in a hot hell-hole. Do they have showers somewhere in Sona? Hmmm, two weeks until the breakout--guesss Fox needs something for February sweeps.

Good point about it always taking place in the daytime! I hadn't even noticed that ~ And yes ~ Some nighttime scenes would have been really scary. I thought the show went by really fast last night. Still. Love. This. Show.

Also a great point about the shoeshine!

And if you were Bellick ~ Wouldn't you have checked that you had what you needed before getting the chicken foot? I am really happy that he didn't die though. I really like his character. I think he is a very good actor. And ~ If Belick had actually succeeded ~ Would he have become the boss? LOL.

I know it is highly unlikely but I really wish this show would keep going somehow.:-D

I can't wait for LJ to be safe so Michael can just say to Linc, screw you, I am not doing any more for you, you mess up, I am supposed to help and console you, I take a step in some direction, you make snide comments to me.

There is this part of me that hopes there are more scenes like the one at the end between Michael and Alex and the fact that Alex realized how hard that was for Michael to do. I almost hope he mentioned it to Whistler at some point that Alex knows every thing that Michael has done since Linc when to prison and it is only because of the whole Whistler situation that Michael actually had to kill someone.

And I cannot wait for a confrontation between Gretchen and Michael, and I am waiting for her to say, we know you didn't kill that man, but that Sarah did and if not for your misguided chilvilary, we would not be able to do it. She might be in a Panama women's prison, but there would be no reason to take LJ if Michael wasn't where he was, so how can you really blame the Company when Michael insists on sticking his nose in places it doesn't belong.

bluesheep: I would like her to be blown up too, however I want to see Michael get his revenge on her, maybe cut her head off...

So in two weeks, is that the finale? I love this show too and I hate to see it end as well.

I thought the same thing about the shoe polish.

Whoever thought Bellick would be a "Champ."

Matt, I didn’t mean to offend in taking a dislike to your “tone” but I am very glad you thoroughly enjoyed last night’s episode. :)

Bluesheep, I wish PB was on next week too, but alas, yet another State of the Union (I tend to pronounce it like onion LOL).

This episode rocked!!! I took such pleasure in Lechero pushing the bodies of Sammy and his lackeys off the porch and into the yard. So awesome!! I am so glad Sammy is gone and out of their hair; now Lechero can make sure everything goes to plan….

Though Michael now has a heavy conscience. He intentionally, yet sorta indirectly, took another life; something he hasn’t done before and didn’t think he’d ever have to. He did it to survive though; Sammy and his men were gonna kill all of them. But now Michael has to come to terms with that or risk compromising the escape….I hope he’s ok!! I was glad to see Mahone comfort him; he knows all about guilt for killing someone. Btw Bluesheep, I was digging Michael’s new shirt! Maybe he lifted it from some other guy’s cell.

I wish Sucre would get a brain – yes, I love him, but I would have cashed the check first so that then I could bring the cash to a different bank and wire the money. Or even Western Union! Sucre was slick in planting the bomb in Gretchen’s car though – let’s hope Linc gets LJ back before they have to blow her up. Cuz of course, LJ’s a goner if they blow her up before, you know?

Sofia and the briefcase!!! I need to know what’s in there!! I hope it’s not another head LOL. I can’t wait to find out more about Whistler! And seriously, Dom Purcell has been teasing Linc getting laid for months; where is the action?! ;)

I was so rooting for Bellick and you know, I really would have lost it had he died. Ever since season 2, I’ve adored Bellick even more and I really wanna see him make it out of Sona alive and go home to his Ma.

Matt, I was also psyched T-bag got in on the escape again. I just love his character!! :-D

And totally; I agree that PB needs more nighttime Sona shots. I know it gets very cold in Dallas at night though in the fall and winter and maybe that’s why they don’t film at night? It is supposed to be Panama so maybe that has something to do with it; not seeing the actors’ breath lol.

Kate2777, do you even like this show? You seem hard on Michael there….

Did anyone else notice this page is called "Prioson Break" lol?

How am I supposed to wait 2 weeks??

Tvdiva, there are 3 pre-strike episodes left so at least that'll take us through February. I wonder though, if the strike were to end in a couple weeks, if we'd get more cuz they weren't done filming yet.

I almost forgot that I wanted Michael to take revenge on Gretchen!!

I almost forgot and JustMe reminded me!! Who is Ed?? You know, the guy Gretchen was texting while pretending to be Gary Miller and/or Whistler...

Oh yeah! Talk about an hour flying by without me noticing… UGH! Hate that!

First, hats off to Linc for the line of the night for me… “If he doesn’t take you, I will.” Plain and simple… ::clap, clap:: Then Sofia cleaning out her closet and throwing Whistler’s stuff on the floor… Nice… He needs some! 

Well lil’ ol’ Gretchen witch… I hate her cause she hits you where it hurts… Sucre, sugar, messed up big time… But where Mari Cruz is concerned, he blows caution to the wind anyhow, so this is not something new… Now I am just curious as to what Sucre is going to do… His best bet is to tell Linc, but then, he never told Linc that he got the 25gs… Ouch, wanna see how that plays out… 2 weeks… State of the Union on Monday??? Why o’ why?!?! 

Ok, Mahone is back in business… How long was he out of SONA to begin with? And I dunno, wanna say he should still have the shakes a bit… But oh well, I am still game that he is back to play… Love the “cold shoulder” bit in the tunnel… LoL that was too funny…

Yeah, Luchero is back in business! Ok, so happy that Sami got his sorry butt killed with the “avalanche” that Michael caused… Whistler, “Sometimes I wonder if you’re an engineer” LoL Michael isn’t gonna show all of his cards to him at once… Would have loved to see him get killed by Bellick, but then that would just be too easy and also, Bellick isn’t THAT good… Ya know? So, why couldn’t Sami shoot him to begin with? What is their connection, again, Rosie even? But that was his downfall… Showed he didn’t have what he needed… Anyhow, so glad he is gone…

Ok, Linc is gonna blow up Gretchen’s car? What purpose would this do? I mean he doesn’t have LJ yet, I just cant piece it together… Not yet, any clues or suggestions? Rosie? CQ?

And lets see, how many do we have leaving the prison? Michael (1), Whistler (2), Mahone (3), Luchero (4), T-Bag (5), now Bellick (6)… The boy wants to go too, but Michael doesn’t want him to go for the fear of what’s out there, but I see him (the boy) somehow getting out to… Oh yeah, Michael said whatever to T-Bag going… Wonder what he is planning there… Cause it isn’t a secret that Michael hates T-Bag big time, so I wonder what he is going to do to him… I hope it is painful! (Sorry Rosie, I know dig his character, but I just don’t like him! )

Hmmm… That’s all I can think of for tonight… Until later or if I can think of anything else…
Me…

Just remembered, kinda… What about that texted message from “Gary Miller” to “Ed” sent by Gretchen, witch… UGH! Who is ED?? Duh, I know we don’t know yet… But she is sending messages for Whistler for when he gets out… Is ED related to Pad Man??? UGH! I cant wait for Monday! And it is only Tuesday! Sheesh!

Ok, gonna read everyone's comment and might have Rosie add some stuff for me...

Bye...

I too was disappointed to find out that millions of us fans will have to wait an extra week to hear our prez speak. I rather listen to T-Bag....he's more articulate and to the point. This was a very terrific episode and with my DVR really went by quickly in 42 minutes. Was anybody a little surprised to see how Lechero pushed his betrayers off the balcony when we didn't see them take them out of the rubble. I thought that was strange editing. I cannot stand Gretchen's face or anything about her. Please let her get her due already and free LJ. I also said to my friend that Belick would not have the chemicals need to fight.I think I sense a hint of violence in that place. I guess the inmates haven't seen "Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood" in quite a while. See you in 2 weeks and I hope millions more catch on to this wonderful show.

Is the 'Ed' Gretchen was texting the older man who's her boss? He was in an earlier episode, threatening her if Gretchen failed to get Whistler out. Obviously their original timeline was kaput when the helicopters had to abort their snatch of Whistler so I'm surprised there wasn't more fuss from the Company about the screwup. Of course, I'm getting confused on the details now.
Oh, and I really like how Alex is stepping up. Uh, does Whistler not know about the Alex/Michael connection? When Whistler made his comment about Michael's engineering abilities, I was sorta waiting for Alex to comment about Michael's background and skills, even in an offhand remark.

I am so glad Mahone is back to his sober self that I don't care if it's unrealistic that he detoxed so soon. I was so tired of watching him sweat and twitch!

For some reason I was thinking Whistler knew Michael was an engineer and his comment was simply about being snarky. Now that I've read through this these comments I realize he WAS being snarky but perhaps didn't realize the irony of his statement because he didn't know Michael's "past life."

I like the new dynamic between Michael and Mahone. Part of me hopes they continue to develop a sort of dysfunctional friendship. Whether either of them like it, they're incredibility alike. It may not make either of the happy to know it, but I think they understand each other better than anyone else ever will. Even if Linc knows all the 'truth' of Michael's life since Fox River entered the picture, he's, well let's be honest, he's not quite Michael's intellectual peer. LOL!

Part of me was hoping T-Bag would decide Sona was a nice place to take over. ;) He could help Lechero exit and put himself in as king. I mean really, you think being down a hand is going to stand in T-bag's way? It didn't all last season.

Gretchen - ugh. Hate her. I'm so "done" with her. I was sort of hoping Lincoln would make that "call" on the trigger phone before the episode ended last night. And Sucre - don't get me started. Boy needs his head checked.

The brief case? Seriously, I LOVED the editing of that scene - the cuts between Sona and Sofia! It was great!! (I will also admit that I was half expecting limbs or fingers to show up in the bottom of the bag.
