Michael Learns the Truth About Sara! And the Escape Fails!
Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller by Bill Matlock/FX
Episode Recap: "Photo Finish/Vamanos" (Nov. 5, 2007)
Such an eventful two hours, where to begin? How about with kudos to my wife for watching the whole thing alongside me this week. (She's not big on the intense/thriller genre. At all.)
So today was the great escape... almost. The clock struck 3:13, Guard 1 was (ultimately) waylaid by the glare, Guard 2 was KOd by the drugged java, and... damn Mother Nature for sending that cloud along! Michael raced back up the makeshift rope ladder only to realize, "Oh yeah — Whistler and I were supposed to have that fight to the death." As Prison Breaky luck would have it, the hastily stowed rope ladder got noticed by Guard 1, the prison break alarm was sounded, and Michael's chicken leg-induced mano-a-mano got postponed. Oh, and some random goon took a bullet in the belly for Mikey's ladder.
Let's back up a moment to give Wentworth Miller props for playing the Sara reveal so well. (Just look at that picture above right!) He spoke for many a MiSa fan with his anguish, his near lack of comprehension, his distress over never getting a chance to say goodbye... or enjoy the love he discovered and fought hard to someday behold.
On the outside, Lincoln played a risky card: leading Susan B. to believe the escape did happen. Man, he was really grasping at straws, especially after seeing LJ come thisclose to his own decapitation. Amazingly, Linc (after Sucre's heroic if unsuccessful gesture) was able to coax one more chance out of SBA.
Elsewhere, Mahone has been offered a chance for freedom, thanks to some Fed buddies who previously had left him for dead. Mahone, though, can't shake his paranoia and thinks he's being double-crossed. Fair enough — this is Prison Break, as I explained to my confused wife.
But for me, the payoff in this two-hour sprawl came in the final twists.
• Lechero is wise to Michael's escape mission — and wants in on it. Looks like patron senses that the walls are crumbling around him now that the lead bull has exposed his true nastiness and (gasp) selfishness to the inmates.
• Susan B. Anthony — aka Gretchen — is in direct cahoots with Whistler, and is all but following his lead on the when of his breakout. Four more days he can stay behind bars, he said, or else he won't be free in time to... well, the writers are probably still hammering that one out. Or not. Strike and all.
The bullets: • Is it really wise to walk around a prison, as Michael and Whistler did, with what is obviously a rope ladder in plan sight? • T-Bag re: Lechero's real name: "Norman?! Does he kill you before or after he does your taxes?" • The guy playing Lechero? Robert Wisdom? Really good casting, I am coming to appreciate. • Mahone re: the shiv Michael found: "What, are you going to take it to the Sona crime lab?" • Bellick misses Sara, too. His "I'm sorry" was a nice and meaningful moment, and one that needed to be played. • And then... "Kick him in the junk, Scofield!" • Linc noting the body bags that fell from Susan's van: No one was coming from that rendezvous alive.
Now the question is, Did Michael get a good look at Whistler's visitor, and how can he and Linc come to realize it's who it is?

This was a great episode in my opinion. A few nice twists that I didn't expect. The biggest twist for me was Lechero wanting Michael to break him out. And Whistler and Susan B. know each other? I figured there was more to the Whistler thing than met the eye, but I didn't expect him to have that much pull on when he could escape. This makes me think that maybe Whistler really is the one that killed that nosy guy. I laughed when Susan told Whistler that Burrows was taking really good care of Sophia. Didn't expect Mahone to get out. Wonder what's really going down with that? Was he just that paranoid or was he rightfully suspicious of them delaying so much? I was getting worried when Michael challenged Whistler to a fight, and was thinking Michael had completely lost his mind. But then I remembered that Michael always knows what he's doing, and he was probably using that to his advantage, and sure enough he did just that, even though it didn't quite work. It would've been waaaaayyy too easy for the sun to have stayed out!
I'm extremely excited after seeing previews for next week. It's been too long since I've seen the tatoos!!!

An incredible episode. Prison Break at it's best. Episodes last night are why I love this show so much!
Whistler and Susan B in cahoots....nice twist. I wonder exactly what their relationship is. Michael dealing w/ Sara's death...very moving. Had me tearing up by the end... Bellick...nice comments about Sara. It needed to be said. Mahone...yup, he's in trouble. something is very not right about this whole thing.....he should be jumpy. Lechero...now he wants to break out with Michael. I laughed out loud over that one! Again, twists like that are why I love this show!
I did not realize those were body bags that fell out of the van at the end. I kept trying to figure out what that was. Thanks for the post about that!
Is it next Monday yet??????

I thought this was really a good episode. It's been a while since I shouted at the tv and pulled my legs up on the couch in suspense fo what was going to happen next. I knew Sophia would pull a double cross, however there were a lot of twists that I did not see coming. I really wish Linc would have shot SBA when he had the chance. I don't like her or her character.
I also agree about Lechero. Great casting. I like him in a wrong kind of way.
I do think Mahone has a right to be paranoid or suspicious. He is trained to know when someone is lying.
I agree about those tattoos. I am anxiously awaiting to see them too.
If they get out what about Bellick? Does he stay and rot and will Michael get him out too? I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds.

I agree - very good episodes, both. Here's my question though - if anyone else picked up on it. Tonight was the first time we were privy to Lechero's real name - Norman. How did Whistler's girl know it????? Remember, she said Norman when she was trying to get out of the situation with the guard she drugged. Does she know more than she's letting on?

Great episode! Bellick's concern for Sara and for Michael's grief was heart-breaking. Hope they soon find a way to break him out of Sona. He needs a happy ending.
Love Whistler - can't wait to find out who he really is. On the other hand, Linc is utterly inept. Let Sucre plan the escape
Mahone's suspicions are appropriate. Something isn't right.

yeah, who would have thought it would be Bellick who carried the emotional weight of Sara's death. I didn't feel much with Michael's breakdown - it was pretty expected and a bit overwrought. But Bellick's reaction, wow. Now I'm actually hoping for a little redemption for the weasel. The one thing about this show is that it gets you to root for the slimeballs. Who else wants to see T-Bag put down Sammy in a bad way. Though it would be funny to see him running the joint.

I'm with you tristram. I want to see T-Bag and Sammy throw down! T-Bag is so deplorable but that would be fun to watch!
And on a side note....here is something disturbing...I was writing out my shopping list last night and I added tea bags. I spelled it T-Bags and did not even realize it until a few hours later when I looked at the list and saw what I had written....
This show has warped me I'm afraid!!!! But it's a fun ride!

You know...I think if I were Linc, I would have taken a chance at shooting Susan B's henchmen in the head or hand. He might not get another chance at saving his son.
I, too, found myself on the edge of my seat during the episode. Good writing. And now, next week's episode looks just as good.

Great eps last night. Had me so tense throughout. Michael's reaction to Sara's death was very well done by WM. A solid performance. Bellick's reaction was heartwarming.
I also think Linc should have tried to shoot the henchman. But I also understand why he didn't.
So, Whistler and SBA know each other. Didn't see that coming.
I had no idea what those three black objects on the ground was until I came here. Thanks for that reveal.
Next week looks just as exciting and I can't wait. Love this show.

I gotta agree on 2 counts. First, this was a very good 2 hr episode. I was squirming and had my hands up towards my face when SBA was about to cut off LJ's head.
And Second, great casting on Lechero. I wonder if we get to see how he ended up in Sona and how he took charge of the prison. That would be interesting to see.
I had a feeling Whistler and SBA knew each other. That was so obvious that he did it. But I still wanted to know what their connection was.
Mahone should be paranoid about whats going to happen to him. He remembers what the company did to Kellerman for telling the truth.
So glad that Sucre didnt get hurt badly. I don't think I could take it if something bad happened to my Sucre.
Another thing I agree about is Bellicks reaction towards Sara's death. So I guess that makes 3 things that I agree about... I remember during the first season's flashback....he had a thing for her. And he gotten her that job at the prison.
And as for T-bag....I couldnt careless if he kills Sammy. They are not using Robert Kneeper enough in this season.
Ohhh and I also can't wait for next weeks episode. They are going to show his tats. I know my baby Wentworth is happy that he can finally remove his shirt. Being so hot and all.

i would have to agree that this was an excellent episode. it made me miss season 1.. i stayed fully into it the whole time, which i was surprised at because of the way the ep.'s have been going lately. i choose to stay tuned to PB over watching Heroes... which says a lot in my house.
i shed a tear watching MS learn of Sara's death, and his reaction was realistic, but i honestly hope we see a little more from him when he is free and can truly deal try to deal with it. maybe even a chat with linc
Seeing MS upset like that made me feel that i am not sure i want a love interest coming in for him, especially one who has lost loved ones as well... it just doesn't seem realistic. i guess we'll see when she gets cast - anyone know who she is going to be played by yet? i think linc has a little something for susan ( gretchen ) it might be a soft spot because she has shown him that she has a heart... this may change after last nights ep and her cut-throatiness.
I was thinking last night how much i miss the tattoos, and as sucre used to say to maricruz - i miss your body.. in his cute accent.

Finally, I got to watch Prison Break. Man, it's been a long 3 weeks (Congrats to my Red Sox though!!).
I have to admit, they were stretching the 2 hrs a bit. But that might just be an opinion of mine. Loved this episode, twists galore. I wasn't sure if Lincoln had told Michael about Sara's death or not, but when he asked for a picture, I realized that I had not missed anything. He did play that very well. I also liked how Bellick provided Michael with some sympathy. Very touching. Someone in my household actually said "Do you think that she's watching?"
Sucre sticking around to help with the break out. But causing a crash? He took a risk there & I thought that Lincoln was just going to take off & leave him. Good thing he didn't. He may be useful down the line.
Why, why didn't Lincoln just kill the guy holding the gun @ LJ's head?? That lady is awful. I was hoping that she'd be more injured than she actually was. Oh well. I also didn't see the Whistler working with her. That was a twist.
For Mahone - I think that he's being set up. That's just a hunch.
Til next week.

oh my poor wentworth. i just wanted to help him through his pain.......
i did not see the twist with the whistler and sba coming. nice one. i am anxious to see how all things are played out.
i was confused on the black items at the end. i thought it was bullet proof vests.... however the body bags make more sense. husband kept talking at the end. (total no-no when prison break is on.)
i like bellick showing some compassion for a change. it was touching.
kudos for a well acted eppy by all my guys tonight. cant wait for next week... and a shirtless wentworth.

So where do I begin???
I screamed when Susan B was going to kill LJ, I wonder if he had to watch them kill Sarah? That poor kid - the counseling he will need!!!
I cried with Michael and screamed with him as well, I still cannot believe they killed Sarah off. How incredibly sad for Michael.
I still want to know what the heck is in the ice chest buried on the beach and how were they going to get away?
And my take on Susan B and Whistler is this - based on the previews for next week... Whistler was put in SONA by the company for Michael to break out. Isn't that the whole reason he is there?
