« Prison Break
Lincoln Plays a Dangerous Game to Help Michael
Does a little book hold the key to Michael's freedom? Danay Garcia and Dominic Purcell by Bill Matlock/Fox
Episode Recap: "Fire/Water"
As a longtime Prison Break fanatic, I'm glad we didn't have to wait long for Michael's resourceful engineer's thinking cap to get switched back on. From the moment he paid special notice to that overhead pipe and the moisture on it, I suspected he was up to something. So while his tattoos may now be defunct as a tool, his noodle keeps on keeping on, in this instance managing to save Luchero's bacon — and Whistler's in the process.
Let's talk about Whistler, as he is this season's walking, talking McGuffin. He was imprisoned for killing the mayor of Panama City, he disappeared into Sona's dank shadows some time ago, and the prisoner who delivered him to the reaper stood to be thanked with a "Get Out of Jail Free" card. And yet Michael, by keeping the Aussie alive, must fight tooth and nail to bust the guy out. Not fair, right? And why does The Company need Whistler in their hands within a week? What's the rush? Is he guest-judging on Dancing with the Stars?
Mahone cannot be too happy, seeing as his ticket out of Sona got commandeered by Luchero and handed over to Michael. T-Bag — a.k.a. Theodoro — also looks bad now that the man he branded as a back-stabbing "ssssnake" has saved the day. Back to mangling the mango, Bagwell!
"Susan B. Anthony" has the hypnotic eyes (and favors a younger, drier Yasmine Bleeth), but her tough-gal act seems a bit forced thus far. I sensed stronger sparks between Lincoln and Sofia — but maybe that was just the "romantic" guitar strums scoring their scene. If she is Whistler's girl (as has been speculated), Linc getting too close to her won't make Michael's bounty too happy.
Bellick finally got some clothes and grub, which is awesome. He worked hard for it. Damn gut tugged my heart with that, "Call my Ma!" plea to Sucre. Sniff.
What do you think of Sucre's decision? Lincoln had a point about keeping the innocent people in your life innocent. It's bittersweet to see Sucre give up on the Maricruz reunion, but at least now maybe he can assist Linc on the outside. (And props to Camille Gauty for returning, albeit briefly, as MC.)
Some bullets before I go: • McGrady (the Latino kid) asking Michael if he has ever met Jordan, and Michael responding, No, "It's a big city." • Do decrepit sewers really have stairway access and overhead lighting? • I heard a train whistle in the distance at least twice tonight. An eventual part of Michael's escape plan? • Linc saying to Michael through the fence, "I'd trade places with you in a second" — and you believed him. • Mahone pegging Sona as "a really strange place.... One I want to get out of." • Um.... Michael could loosen those rusty pipe nuts with his bare fingers? OK....
So, what's in the book about birds that Linc pinched from Sofia? Deep, dark secrets that Whistler is keeping from The Company? Tune in next week....

I don't really have too much to say tonight. I wasn't really paying too much attention ... shocking I know. I too was glad to see Bellick was able to get some clothes & food. It is sometimes good to help the hand that feeds you ... even if you have to work with T-Bag to get it. Also, I felt bad when he was begging Sucre for help. But then I did believe that Sucre would hurt Bellick if he didn't get the answers that he wanted re: Mari Cruz.
What's in the Bird Book? Some hidden code like L.J. used to communicate with Lincoln perhaps?? Something similar to Michael's tatoos? Hmm??
I didn't catch onto the moist pipe & the bomb. But that was pretty quick thinking on his part. My question is how did the kid/young adult person get the bucket of alcohol so quickly & that amount?
Mahone is going to be pretty ticked off @ Michael. Not the first time I suppose ... T-Bag also.
Sucre & Mari Cruz -
Yasmine Bleeth (?) that's who I thought that lady was. The fact that she doesn't have crystal blue eyes should've been the give away. But she does look like her. Is she supposed to be Lincoln's new love interest?
Until next week. Perhaps I'll be less tired & more awake to pay attention to the details of the show.
Take care Michael.

Is C-Note going to be in this season? Wasn't sure if he signed another contract. (not that it matters either way; he'd be useless this season. I'm just curious)
But one question: How do people in Sona survive the 100+ degree heat with such little water?
My reality suspenders haven't worked due to the long summer; is there a warranty?

I felt so sad when I found out that Bellick conned Sucre. At least Maricruz is still alive. She didn't look that pregnant while on the phone. I am also happy Camille came back and played the character. Dealing with a new one wouldn't have done it for me. I guess we shall wait till later for their paths to cross again.
Killing Whistler could get you of there Didn't quite see that one coming. No wonder the guy was hiding. At first I thought, they had him locked up down there as like a solitary confinement deal, but he was down there of his own free will. He did clean up pretty well though.
Who the hell is that chick with Linc? Talking about we will meet everyday with a status report and etc. Man, Linc should just put her out of her misery already. She is trying to act all tough and stuff when Linc can just snap her like a twig if he wanted to. And exactly what does she expect during her daily reports...Michael will just probably tell Linc the same thing everytime he goes to visit him.
Sona has its good side Good thing about Sona is you can do whatever you want...go where you want and have visitors whenever you want that can pass you things. It was so easy for Linc to pass Michael cash..he could pass him numerous other things like tools if necessary to break out or assist in the planning of his break out.
Poor Latino Kid He said he was 17 and has been in Sona for several years. One has to wonder what he did to end up in there. At least he seems to just be blending in.
I think Sucre made a smart decision Unlike Linc & Michael, if Sucre returned to the states, they will probably still bring charges up against him and he will be back in prison. Michael will probably get the charges dropped in the likelihood he decides to go back to the US.
I kept thinking that Linc & Whistler's girl would team up They both want the same thing. It only makes sense that they do. However Michael goes about accomplishing this task, he needs to involve as less people as possible.
Mahone is up to his crazy old ways Once again Mahone is willing to do whatever it takes to return to his family. Too bad he doesn't have his "special" pen.
Can't wait for next week!!

Is it just me, or has Bellick and Mahone yet to talk to each other at all this season. Kind of weird that they're both locked up in the same prison and they never talk to each other.

I'm not an engineer, but can someone explain to me how dropping a homemade molotov cocktail into water pipes makes the water run instead of destroying the pipes? I'm assuming it was a blockage thing, but come on.
I love the assessment of Whistler as the walking McGuffin. Now how about El Tweener as the name for the guy who's everyone's 'friend.' I wonder what that really means.
And Linc working with Whistler's girlfriend? Could see that coming all the way from Panama. I just hope they don't bring in Whistler's Mother. sorry, couldn't resist.

I think they said that Whistler supposedly killed the Mayor of Panama's SON in a bar fight

Its about time we get to see Sucre and Im glad that he is ok. Plus Im glad that they finally gave Bellick some clothes to put on. Seeing him in his underwear and hunched over like that reminds me of my dad when he walks around our house like that. But anyway....my heart also broke when Sucre was saying goodbye to Maricruz. I hope she doesnt go back to Sucre's sleezeball cousin Hector. Speaking of Hector where is he? The last time we saw him was in season 2 after Maricruz left his sorry butt at the alter.
Thanks Matt for clearing it up on how and why Whistler was behind the wall. I couldnt pay attention during this episode. And I didn't hear the train wristle in the background. Man, I gotta rewatch this episode this weekend to pay attention more better.
Susan B. Anthony" has the hypnotic eyes (and favors a younger, drier Yasmine Bleeth), Thats who she reminded me of.
Im also thinking that the Bird book has some clues hidden it. It has to be.
And to Zinger- I think the guy who played C-note will be on another show.
Tristram-[b]I just hope they don't bring in Whistler's Mother. sorry, couldn't resist.....that was funny.

I didn't catch the part where it was said that Whistler killed the son of the President of Panama. I was having trouble hearing some of the dialog. I thought maybe he was the former warden and the inmates put him in that hole. I had no idea that he put himself in there to keep himself safe.
I also didn't hear the train whistle in the background either. And I thought I was paying attention.

I'm still giggling about 'Whistler's Mother.' I should have seen that joke coming, and yet, I didn't. *grin*
A couple of random thoughts:
I kept wishing Susan had a bit more zip to her. A bit more menace or spark. She just doesn't frighten me. And Linc's no pushover. If she thinks she's gonna keep him in line, she's kidding herself. She just doesn't radiate the seriousness/menace that this role called for.
I love how some small characterizations keep coming back to us. Sucre, I love the guy, but he's always struck me in a way as, well, easily influenced. And that continues here. Sucre is a bit of a follower, but he has a heart as big as the great outdoors, so I'm glad we'll see more of him.
And Bellick - whenever he gets an ounce of power, he figures out how to use it, and goes back to his blustery self. I liked how they kept that characterization true. He grovels when he's without any power at all, but the minute he gets a taste, his bravado returns.
And I, too, am glad the poor guy gets to put on real pants.
I was a bit lost on Whistler, so thanks Matt and fellow posters for clearing some of that up. Did the Prison Boss know Whistler was down there? And how long has he been down there? If our heroes could find him so quickly, why didn't anybody else? Or were they just not that concerned with him, based on day to day survival? If I missed something, please let me know!
Whistler seemed to relax once the Prison Boss gave Michael the pass; was that also meaning the Boss wouldn't let Whistler be killed? I thought Whistler was actually kind of cute, once he stopped trying to brick himself back into the wall. I know a bit of that storyline has lost me so I hope I'll be able to pick some of it back up as we go along.
Oh, and Rose, when you come by, I did like the remixed intro titles! I listened deliberately for it this week!

Last nights eppy was good and I hope they get out of SONA soon. I have to give kudos to Linc for switching the bird book. VERY clever!!! I have to be honest and say the Susan B Anthony character is trying too hard to act tough. She is giving me the same vibe as Veronica.
I am glad to see Sucre. I know him and Linc can cause some mischief LOL...

Oh how I love Prison Break! Matt, I am also psyched we’re back to Michael plotting and planning; it’s so reminiscent of season one.
Tonysgirl, I think McGrady said he got the bucket of alcohol from someone who had just made a batch – not the best stuff, but it works for prison. Oh and Linc’s new love interest is Whistler’s girl there; they look cute together!
So now we know Versailles was a bank – but what about the part about Madrid? Did I miss something? Was 1989 the safety deposit box #? Maybe V. Madrid was the name she was supposed to use? Anyone have ideas?
I don’t think C-Note is gonna be on anymore and I haven’t read anything about it. His show on TNT got canceled so maybe he could make a guest appearance but his story line was pretty much wrapped up….
I was so happy to see Maricruz again too!! She didn’t look that pregnant cuz she’s only around 3 months and you don’t show much then. I’m looking forward to seeing her on Las Vegas.
While I’m glad Bellick is clothed now, I still feel bad for him. His pleading with Sucre was heartbreaking; his only hope now is that when Michael breaks out, that he gets to go too.
Here’s what I see happening with T-bag – while I adore his character, his ticket has to be up this season. He talks smack about Michael to Lucchero but looks stupid now that Michael got the water back on. Lucchero now knows Michael is smart and very resourceful and I betcha Michael will enlist his help in breaking out. And knowing Michael, they’re gonna ditch T-bag and leave him behind to rot in Sona; a much more fitting end to him than ending up back in Fox River.
Bklynkat23, Lincoln can’t do anything to Susan B Anthony; she’s the only one who knows where LJ and Sara are!
Tristram, my boyfriend tried to explain to me how Michael’s “explosion” got rid of the clog but not burst the pipes. He said the alcohol was weak and with those pipes being thick steel, what he did was pretty much just a more potent version of Drano.
I didn’t hear anything about what Whistler did to get in there either; what part was that? I’m gonna re-watch it but I wanna know what to look for.
Alex, I thought Whistler was cute too!! I’m glad you liked the new theme music at the beginning; it’s not quite the same as the first 2 seasons, but being in Sona, it needed a little more edge.

They sure gave Bellick some funky pants! I can't wait to see what is going to happen to T Bag now that the boss sees that Michael can be useful to him. I don't think the bossman would have taken him in the way he did anyway. But that is verging on complaining ~ which I said I wouldn't do. (Not that there aren't multiple unrealistic things ~ like the well lit sewer stairwell.) If you put it in ( ) is it still complaining? I agree about the tough chick not being so tough ~ You could see the gun shaking in her hand! Very curious about why these people want Whistler ~ Especially now because he doesn't even know what they want him for! Great catch on the train whistle ~ I didn't hear it. Well ~ the story is certainly moving right along. Can't wait to see where we go!

This post is being posted by me, but it's from JustMe33020:
Oh my good lord!!! Seeing Michael any day, is perfect…
I really don’t like “Susan” (cat scratch girl) one bit… Who is she? And with that gun, she doesn’t look scary! So, get over yourself already!!! I remember her from “Nash Bridges” and she was skinnier and prettier then… I cant wait for Linc to put her in her place. I think she might be the “Agent Kim” of this season… So that little scoop of her being a possible “love” interest for Linc, I don’t see that happening unless it is in a “grudge (fill in your own dirty thought!)” kind of way… Ya know?
Ok, Whistler… Good to see him out of the wall… Also good to know that he was eating rat and not “another” meat product! HA! It was funny how Mahone thought he would have some pull… Did he think that Michael wouldn’t think of a way to “out due” him in upping the ante?
Ok, thought it was sad that Sucre had to say good bye to Maricruz… I wonder if she would consider going to Panama or somewhere else to be with him… I just don’t know, but that was a sad scene… Thing is, I didn’t cry like I normally do with this show… Like when C-Note had to get his daughter help so he gave himself up last season, I cried then…
Things to ponder:
1. What is inside that “bird” book that Linc got from Whistler’s girlfriend? (What’s her name again?)
2. What is the Prison Boss gonna do now with Michael? Before he hated him and didn’t want him in the jail, for lack of better words, but now that Michael “helped” him out, so to say, what is the boss gonna do now?
3. Now that Michael got Whistler’s bounty taken off, how are they gonna get out?
4. Is this Susan chick gonna maybe start getting information to Linc about SONA to where they will figure out a way to escape? Cause with Fox River, Michael knew the blue prints, with SONA he hasn’t the foggiest…
5. Ok, Whistler’s girl went to, I am guessing, a bank for something… This something had to do with the note that was given to her… What does the “company” want with him? What is it that he has to offer? Hmmm, I wonder…
6. Michael told Linc that while he (Michael) is working on a way to get out, Linc has to work on a way to get to Sara and LJ… Does he even have a clue where they are holding them?
1 thing… I lost satellite service when… It was just after Michael went to the inmate to ask him to get him alcohol and they cut to Mahone in the sewer with Whistler back in the hole trying to seal himself up, then it went out… The next thing I knew, there was a guard on the phone with the prison boss telling him something along the lines about “don’t call him with fake Whistler sightings” or something… Then Mahone comes dragging Whistler out and Michael ending up blowing the water pipes or whatever he did… What did I miss???

JustMe, Michael poured the alcohol mixture down an access pipe and lit it – the combustion busted out the clog. Mahone dragged Whistler up cuz he thought he could get his “get out of jail free card” but Lucchero was way more impressed with Michael.
