Oscars Red Carpet: Lisa Rinna's Fashion Review

Oftentimes it seems the Oscars are not so much about who grabs gold but who grabs all the attention on the red carpet. Minutes after she completed her pre-show interviews from the revered walkway, TV Guide Network's queen of the awards season, Lisa Rinna, shared her take on the gowns and guys. (Vote for your own fashion hits and misses here.) For much more red-carpet review, watch TV Guide Network's Academy Awards Fashion Wrap with Lisa Rinna, premiering Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 pm/ET. — Amy Miller

Who were your favorites on the red carpet?
Lisa Rinna:
Katherine Heigl was my favorite. She took my breath away.

Why did you like her?
Rinna:
I loved the color. I’m really big on one-shoulder dresses, and the train came out of her shoulder. It was so "movie star." Her makeup looked pretty, her hair looked pretty.... She was my favorite.

Who else did you like?
Rinna:
I loved Cameron Diaz — she’s such a statuesque, stunning woman. A natural beauty. She just shined. Keri Russell looked gorgeous — the dress was a beautiful color on her skin, and the necklace. The whole package was very good. Laura Linney looked simple and classic. The jewelry was appropriate. She and Amy Ryan, also in navy, looked so classic, simple, gorgeous and appropriate. They looked like Academy Award nominees. You need to look like you’re walking the red carpet at the Academy Awards, and not another show. Renee Zellweger was very "movie star." I think she’s cute.

Red was a very hot color tonight. Why do you think that is and why does it look so good?
Rinna:
When people think Oscars, they think red. I almost wore red. Red is a bold color. It draws attention, and who doesn’t want to attract attention when you’re at the Academy Awards? It’s an iconic color to wear at the Oscars.

What did you think of Heidi Klum?
Rinna:
That [large red, vampire-ish gown] was quite a statement. Heidi and Seal are such a stunning couple.

Miley Cyrus?
Rinna:
I thought she looked really appropriate for her age, which I was happy to see. She didn’t look 30.

Anne Hathaway?
Rinna: She looked good. I’m not a fan of the drapey flower stuff. I like really simple.

Let’s go through the pregnant girls. Jessica Alba?
Rinna: I loved the color. She looked really soft and beautiful.

Nicole Kidman?
Rinna:
Looked stunning. She looked like the Nicole we know, but with a tiny bump.

Cate Blanchett?
Rinna: Gorgeous. Grecian-y.

Do you think anyone was a major "miss"?
Rinna:
Not really. I didn’t see any big misses. Some color choices were a bit questionable, but everybody was pretty safe.

And lastly, how about the men?
Rinna:
Dwayne ["The Rock" Johnson] looked good. I had a good interview with him. I loved Patrick [Dempsey]. George [Clooney] looked fantastic. Johnny Depp was cute.

I saw Tilda Swinton on the red carpet and thought I was seeing things. Then when she took stage I wanted to cry for her. She looked like some sort of alien. Very dark red hair with no real style did nothing for her pale skin. She didn't appear to have any makeup which made her seemed washed out. Her dress was just too much of everything. It was not flattering in any way. Maybe what she looks like isn't important to her, but the Oscars are very important. It is the occasion to look your best. I just felt bad for her.

TVGuide!!! PLEASE find someone with a little fashion expertise to do the red carpet commentary. Lisa Rinna knows nothing about fashion. Stacy London would be fantastic.

When I saw Tilda Swinton in The Chronicles of Narnia, I thought, "What a great make-up job they did for her evil queen character." What a shock to find out she really looks like that. I felt sorry for her. She just doesn't even look real. Bless her heart.

Tilda Swinton, her dress looked like she was ready for Halloween. It wass terrible, so was her hair.

Tilda Swinton is wonderfully unique and isn't like all of the other cookie cutter Hollywood women. She knows very well that she's not conventionally beautiful and she's always been proud to be different. She has a unique style all her own. How sad that people still put her down. She's a wonderfully talented actress and I'm so glad she won.

I do agree that Lisa is just not good- I can't even watch her.

Well, this is the forum for discussing the way people looked last night so I have to agree about Tilda Swinton not looking her best. But I do think she has a very unique look and can be striking at times. I saw her in Thumbsucker (great movie, btw) and throughout that movie she went from looking really washed out and bad to looking very beautiful, IMO. Also, by far the worst dress of the night had to be on Daniel Day Lewis wife. Can't remember her name but it was just hideous!

I think Lisa did a much better job than Ryan Seacrest with E! He asked Jessica Alba if she is planning on breast feeding. UGH! What kind of red carpet talk is that?

I agree dolphinwmn- while her dress WAS hideous, I hate when comments become personal about someone's looks. Daniel Day Lewis's wife's dress was absolutely terrible.

I applaud Tilda for being SO unique in a sea of designer whores just waiting for the moment someone asks WHO they're wearing.

(Hell, the woman basically has two partners at home!)

E!'s Giuliana made a comment (among many) last evening that made me want to throw my dinner at her head. She said that the stars REALLY need to consider what their dress is going to look like under the lights and on TV before they wear it. Really, why should they consider things like their own personal feelings - or how comfortable they are - or whether they like what they're wearing. By all means, they should call Giuliana first.

(And maybe when they get Giuliana on the phone, they could clarify the pronounciation of their names for her so she doesn't look like such a vapid dough-head on international TV!)

Um, yeah ... Ryan Seacrest ... perhaps at some point, since you're clearly just taking over television, you could take a course on how to actually interview people!?

Did you love Summer Phoenix looking she was going to slug him while he was talking to her husband?

oh, come on, now....while I agree that Cameron Diaz is a pretty girl, that dress did absolutely nothing for her hips, and for heaven's sake, all she did was put her hair in a ponytail!! My hair looks better than that on a bad day!

Hoo-ray for Tilda Swinton! At least she has a sense of herself & doesn't give a crapola about conventionality or Hollywood "norms". Good for her. She was certainly not one of the phonies last night & I enjoyed watching & listening to her.

Amy Ryan was simply the most beautifully dressed person on the red carpet!
