Oscars' Best and Worst Moments

So, my friends, what did you think of this year's Oscars? Long, boring, unimaginative, unfunny? Or did you actually have fun filling out ballots with your friends and snarking about fashion choices? I thought the only surprise was Tilda Swinton. That's why it wasn't a fun or surprising show. We here at TVGuide.com think we've found the top five best and worst moments of the evening. Do you agree? (Also, check out our list of memorable backstage moments and our Best & Worst Oscars Fashion photo gallery.)

Best Moments:

1) Marion Cotillard's upset win and her adorable speech.

2) Letting Marketa Irglova come back out and give her "thank-you speech." That never, ever happens, so bravo, Academy!

3) The singers from Once winning best song over Disney!

4) Tilda Swinton's acceptance speech, and upset win.

5) Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill presenting awards. They were way funnier than any written stuff.

Worst Moments:

1) The Rock presenting an Oscar. WTF!

2) Gary Busey attacking Ryan Seacrest and Jennifer Garner.

3) Diablo Cody's dress blowing open after winning for best screenplay.

4) The Iraq troops announcing an Oscar. I love the troops, but it seemed a little exploitative. We're patriotic! We haven't forgotten our troops. They watch movies, too! Tacky.

5) No one fixed the slippery spot on stage — Colin Farrell had to call them out on it.

Letting the ONCE winner return to the stage to give such a moving speech was really, really classy. Yay to Marion Cotillard, who is really, really great in LA VIE EN ROSE. And Tilda Swinton's general surprise over winning followed by her really lively comments about George Clooney's batsuit with nipples were very, very cool. And, if I'd known what Javier Bardem said to his mom, I bet I would've liked that, too. And Diablo Cody crying was nice.

Tilda Swinton was absolutely the least attractive of any actress I've seen in years. I didn't realize how tasteless she looked compared to when I saw her in "Clayton". I mean she wasn't gorgeous but tonight was plain old scary. She looked like she could have used a good meal and what's with the hair??
I didn't love any of the songs like in the past. I had a feeling the duo would win but wasn't that impressed. The orchestra was terrific and I wish I was playing trombone among the four of them. What a thrill it must be to walk on that stage for any reason. Jon Stewart did OK but Billy Crystal is the best and should be the host next year and always. Why wasn't Brad Renfro mentioned among the "in Memoriam"? I found that quite neglectful.Daniel Day Lewis was amazing but I now have to see "Old Country".

What was the Gary Busey thing?

Worst Moments:
Diablo Cody's dress blowing open after winning for best screenplay.

But she also deserves a Best Moment-
As far as I could tell, she was the ONLY major winner to acknowledge her fellow nominees.(am I correct?)
With all of the great competition in most of the categories,
What's up with that???!!!!!!!?<img border=">

trombone- I feel ya about Tilda. She did scare me alittle. I liked the choir's performance for August Rush. Loved letting Marketa Irglova come back to give her ty speech. I totally missed Diablo Cody's dress blowing up like that. I'll see it later on youtube. Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill presenting awards they were funnier. John Stewart was also good. The show didn't even seem like 3 hours, it moved so quickly.

Clearly, the best moment of the evening happened before the awards ceremony began, as Gary Busey (remember Point Break?) worked his magic on Jennifer Garner...

That slippery spot on the floor was making me nervous. After 2 men slipped in the same area, I was waiting for a woman to fall in front of millions of people. I especially cringed when I saw Nicole Kidman walk to that podium. I sure didn't want to see a pregnant woman fall on live TV.

Kudos to the Academy for the classy move of letting the Once female singer return to give her acceptance speech!

I missed Gary Busey's attack on Jennifer Garner. I'm gonna have to see the red carpet re-runs.

Diablo's dress...didn't she walk in it when first she tried it on?! Yikes.

Only members of the Academy are put in the In Memoriam segments and Brad Renfro was not a member. :(

Gary Busey attacking J.Gar & Laura Linney and Seacrest was jaw-droppingly highlarious. I LOVE LIVE TV!! I watched it unfold,he initially came at Seacrest a whole commercial break BEFORE Jennifer & Laura came up, but it wasn't until Ryan was in the middle of interviewing them that Busey got through.

My worst moments were during the red carpet show. I'm sorry, but was Lisa channeling Joan Rivers. She made multiple mistakes this year during her interviews. It was sad.

TVGuide Staff you got it wrong. The absolute Best Moment was when Gary Busey (either high or drunk) came up to Ryan Seacrest, while on the Red Carpet, acting like they were best buddies and Ryan trying to brush him off quietly, while interviewing Jennifer Garner and Laura Liney, then Busey comes back, grabs Jennifer Garner and starts kissing all over her. She tries to graciously extricate herself from his grasp and when she finally does she says to Ryan "I can't believe that guy was kissing me on the neck." She was totally grossed out and discombobulated, as was Ryan (who said he never met Busey before) - it was hysterical - definitely the highlight of the evening.

Also I didn't think the troops giving out an Oscar was cheesy. I thought it was very nice. What, would you have preferred they were dressed in Tuxs and evening gowns? You guys are too cynical.

The rest of the evening for me was somewhat ho-hum. The musical numbers were not that exciting, and I agree with other posters Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill were the funniest part of the actual show. John Stewart did well enough. He had a few good jokes.

I'm glad Diablo Cody won for Juno.

The talent this year for best actor and actress was stiff, I really wish theyall could have won.

mdjones: I completely agree. I started out watching TV Guide, but Lisa was so embarrasing I switched to E!, which is how I caught that fabulous Gary Busey show!!!

Tilda Swenson - well, I'm just glad that, unlike many posters on here, the Academy members vote on talent, not looks.

I also liked having our soldiers in Iraq present the short doc award. Perhaps it was a preemptive strike for balance in case the winner of the feature doc was Michael Moore. ;)

I loved how other performers and presenters took part in some of the shenanigans on stage. John Travolta sneaking on stage by waltzing to the podium with an "Enchanted" cast member was cute - and the schtick about the plane with the lights left on. And that little girl - Jamaya, I think? - playing with Jon Stewart on the giant Wii screen supposedly during the commercial break.

And John Brolin and James MacElvoy were I think my favorite presenters.

If I have any complaints it's that there weren't some of the older, established starts presenting. With the exception of Jack Nicholson, Tom Hanks and Helen Mirren, I think everyone was pretty much the under 40 crowd and People's Choice Awards favorites.

I hate watching red carpet, since it is sooo phoney. Ryan Seacrest is about the phoniest guy on TV so I would have loved to have seen the thing with Busey, however. Too bad JG had to get caught in the middle of it. I did see a little of the ABC red carpet. I was glad when the show started.

The intro mixing all the movie scenes is so well done. I love that segment. I think Jon Stewart is great as a host. Seth and Jonah were extremely funny. Falling Slowly is one of my favorite songs - when done originally by The Frame. Once is a really nice movie, however, so it was great to see it recognized and inviting Marketa back for one of the best speeches of the night was nice. Diablo Cody, Marion Cotillard, and Javier Bardem's wins were the best with the best acceptances IMO.

Michael Clayton is an excellent movie and Tilda Swinton is extremely good in it. She was acting there. What we saw at the Oscars was the real Tilda. She is unconventional and unashamed of who she is or how she looks. She said afterwards that Alan Arkin told her the next thing she should do it to go out and do something shocking to put everyone off. She said she thinks she already did that. Good for her. Being a cookie cutter version of an actor in lalaland is not a goal anyone should strive to attain.
