« Nip/Tuck
October 31, 2006: Liz Cruz
You knew it was inevitable that Michelle would maneuver Burt's death, but I didn't think it would be so soon. I was really digging Larry Hagman in the role, but this doesn't mean he can't come back for some fabulous Nip/Tuck dream sequences. When Michelle told Francis the nurse to go home and that she'd take care of giving Burt his pills, I knew Michelle was lying. Poor Burt had to crawl out of bed and attempt the stairs by himself just to try to take those dang pills. Too late. Burt died a dramatically painful death while his wife, Michelle, just stared at him. But taking Burt's kidney saved her dear Christian's life. Excellent timing with that text message from James to the "whore"/staff member with the razor blade who was having sex with Christian: "Abort." Since James had 24 hours to give those two mysterious French-speaking Asian-American dudes "one more kidney" to meet their quota, mission accomplished. So this means Christian still doesn't know James and Michelle are the organ thieves. Here's hoping they wrap that story up soon since it gives me a kind of Carver vibe (enough already). I did like that Christian got back at James for drugging him by filling her car with all that medical waste. Eww. Best Jacqueline Bisset line was earlier when she took a peak at Christian's package when he was passed out: "Very impressive — perhaps another time when you're more up to it."
So Julia had sex with Marlowe — how... lovely. I promise not to make any "shortcomings" jokes — that would be in poor taste. Clueless Sean was the one who encouraged Julia to see that movie with Marlowe in the first place. When the two of them made out during the movie, it reminded me of how long it's been since I've made out with anyone at a movie theater. Oh, sorry... back to the show. Of course Julia wasn't thrilled when Sean told her Marlowe wanted leg-lengthening surgery. But she certainly put a stop to that. I bet that "tall Marlowe" dream sequence was challenging but fun to film. I was waiting for Julia to spill the beans to Sean at the very end that she slept with Marlowe, but she cut it short and just said she went to Marlowe's place and then needed to shower (hmmm), which caused Sean to give her a suspicious look. A few of you asked if they gave Connor the corrective surgery on both hands, but we got that answer tonight — one down, one to go.
Continuing with the "Nip/Tuck is the new Will & Grace" theme, guest star Alanis Morissette began the first of three appearances as Poppy, Liz's new girlfriend. Isn't it ironic (you knew that was coming) that Poppy is also an anesthesiologist, like Liz? Liz finally gets a girlfriend (as Christian put it: "Did hell freeze over?") and the girlfriend ends up being not so nice about Liz's imperfections, causing Liz to get lipo for the first time and participate in a 5K run.
Unfortunately, that not-so-nice-ness occurs when Liz isn't around or is under anesthesia. I wanted Sean to tell Liz the complete truth about Poppy rather than just hint that she was being overly critical and rude about Liz's body (like referring to Liz as a Teletubby — charming). How soon before Liz discovers the real Poppy? Two episodes from now, I bet.
Almost every week we get a classic song played during a pivotal moment, and this week it was Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" brilliantly heard during Liz's lipo: "Don't go changin'... to try and please me...." Perfect. I'm surprised they haven't used it before. I've performed that song at two wedding receptions, but I never thought the lyrics would pertain so perfectly to plastic surgery... until now.

When Michelle let Burt die, it reminded me of the movie 'Little Foxes', were Bette Davis doesn't get her husband his heart medicine and he dies crawling for it on the stairs, classic stuff. Of course the movie was way better, way more dramatic. I saw that Michelle was going to do that to Burt a mile away, since the first episode. Just a feeling.
I've never liked Julia, so I could care less what she does. I've always thought Sean deserved better. Julia has always blamed Sean for all her problems, plus she's really always wanted Christian. My thought was that Sean new right away that Julia had slept with Marlowe, that look on his face.

Hey, don't feel so bad for Burt, that's what he gets, he was rude to Michelle, even when she got home, he is lucky she stayed around with him for that long. But how exactly is she going to explain the kidney removal to the police?

With all the HIPAA privacy rules etc, could Sean have ethically said anything to Julia about Marlowe's consultation? Adding 6 inches to his height still would not have made Marlowe as tall as he appeared in the daydream scene. Guess that's why it was a daydream.

Who'd want Burt's nasty old kidney anyway? And won't the cops, or whoever investigates Burt's death, be just a tad bit suspicious when the theft shows up in an autopsy?

About HIPAA....technically, Sean shouldn't have said anything at all. All conversations between him and Marlowe that take place in the office regarding Marlowe's health, etc are supposed to be completely confidential. I thought the same thing when he started to tell Julia.
Overall...good episode though. I don't know why Sean and Julia got remarried though....they always seem to be falling for other people. It's like they got remarried on a whim, like for one day they got along and loved each other so that was the basis for getting remarried. huh.

Who was driving the car that the french speaking asian americans took off in? It was just a quick glimpse but did anyone else think it looked like Famke Jansen? I didn't have TV for a several months so I missed the end of that story line and what happened to her character.

The reason no one would question Burt's death and no autopsy would be performed is because the death is essentially a "natural" one - particularly with an older man who has a history of medical-related issues.
I have a problem with Michelle and Christian being so "in love" with each other. Please just how long did they know each other?
When James opened her car door and the medical waste came pouring out - I initially thought it was the French-speaking Japanese people that had done it as another warning. I then began to wonder after the Christian reveal how he got it in there - sunroof?
I am so over Sean and Julia. Their characters seem to have the same storyline year in and year out with a different lover for each of them and Julia looking down her nose at Sean for something she herself is doing.
Next weeks' episode looks great (with the exception of Kimber being pregnant with Matt's baby or surprise! Christian's - ewwwww!). I have enjoyed the characters of Escobar and Bobbolit since they appeared and am anxious to see them again.

Regarding the autopsy on Burt. I think the family has to ask for the autopsy unless foul play is evident. I could be wrong.
Wonder how many times James is going to go after Christian's kidneys to pull Michelle's strings?

Guess I knew it was coming that Michelle was goin to sumhow kill Burt. It would be funny if he left her outta his will.
Mayb the thing w/ Christian and Michelle is that they mite not know what love is or how to love...so any feeling of deep emotion for them can be misconstrued as love. And whats love to them mite not b what love to us.
Sean & Julia..can they move on bcuz they cant stay faithful for more than 2 seconds.
Gosh Julian McMahon is gorgeous ok. Especially that scene at James' car. While he's always attractive..he gets sum really great scenes where he is hot sexxiness!! Is he single? Cuz I think I need to holla at him. But yall dont need to kno all that haha.
The guy w/ the tattoos is a bit scary lookin but I like his character. Oh and Matt possibly havin offspring..ickyyyy!!

I enjoyed last night better than last week. I agree, whoever comes and picks up Burt's body or prepates him a the morg should notice something fishy by the kidney. Sean telling Julia about the consult-a definate violation-I wonder if they will ever mention it. I really don't care for Christian and Michelle as a couple. I assume she is only around for the season. Sean's suspects something. He must thinks alright since he slept with the other nanny. I can't wait for them to get back to Kimber and Matt-it's been two weeks since they slept together, and they haven't been seen since.

Agreed to whoever said they were over Sean and Julia. Every season, same thing, cheating on each other with different people. They're obviously not right for each other so just MOVE ON. I mean, we saw how well that worked out last time they tried it, but Julia knew the full story of what happened between Sean and the nanny, I'm sure they'd be done once and for all.
Loved Christian putting all the medical waste in what's her face's car, but really, who wants the kidney of a 75 year-old guy with extreme health problems?? And won't it be completely obvious that Michelle killed him?
So excited for next week! Escobar AND Bobolit, plus revisiting when Christian and Sean fed that dead guy to the gators. These season one throwbacks are fantastic, it's really making me want to rewatch that first, glorious season.
